Religions also 'borrow' features of other religions to make it easier to assimulate them into their dominant culture.

"Religious syncretism." And this: It is perfectly logical to presume if there are 4,000 plus major and minor religions, sects, denominations and cults, and each claim that theirs and only theirs is the correct religion, the "one true religion," and many hold that others should die(!!!) for disagreement with that, then, yes *it is logical to presume they are ALL wrong and NONE are right.*

I think the most likely thing is that it’s a tool to control people and get them to behave a certain way (which in some cases isn’t so bad, because people be crazy), combined with people trying to make sense of phenomenon they couldn’t explain yet.

Another origin of Christmas, is Yule, an old Viking tradition held during the Winter Solstice, in order to celebrate the lights return. There are even stoies back in the viking age of children who would leave vegetables and fruits outside, or in their boots and whenever Odin came home from a hunt, or whatever he was out doing, his horse could get some rest and something to eat. In gratitude for this kind gesture, Odin would leave gifts for the kids. Remind you of anyone?

I have studied the history and evolution of religion, its quite interesting and yes gods, myths, rituals and traditions are often borrowed and merged into a new religion. Christianity is the most highly syncretized religion there is, a borrowed god from Judaism, which itself had evolved from polytheistic and monolatristic religions, as well as pagan elements.

You're right. Even the Christian God Yahweh was a recycled God. Yahweh was one of the sons of El, the Caananite diety. Yahweh wasn't even the chief diety. The flood myth was written 1000 years before Genesis in the Epic of Gilgamesh. All they did was change the name Utnapishtum to Noah and, of course, the gods name. I've never seen a discussion on this with any theists

😊 I think this was a very good video in helping to remove many of the differences and misunderstandings and opinions that we have. Many of our beliefs act as a barrier to unity, for example the resurrection, baptism, the Eucharist. If we set aside dogmas, doctrines, superstitions, rites and rituals we will surely see that we have so much in common with each other. Then we can all start working together to build a better world of peace and harmony. 🌟

When devising a religion, particularly Christianity, theists looked around, saw a nice concept and added it. As a "newer" religion, Christianity was able to appeal to more believers. More important is the vast amount of writings and concepts that were conveniently ignored centuries after Christ supposedly existed.

Judaism, Christianity, and Islam have always held to the belief in one God. Individuals may have wandered away from this belief, but these religions still hold fast to the monotheistic belief.
@joels310

To assume that they are borrowing is the issue for me. The more obvious answer is that they belonged to Noah's family and all heard the truth. The other unifying factor is that when Babel fell into paganism and idolatry, God confused the language, and about 70 groups dispersed across the world holding a common pagan story. The idea that monotheism came after pagan polytheist beliefs is the result of the Babylonian religion spreading around the world during the dispersal.

The words Jhanna is Islam and Jhana in Buddhism may, superficially, look the same, but they are describing very different concepts. Jhanna (Islam) is a heavenly realm, or paradise - it is a 'physical' reality achieved, by some, after death. Jhana (Pali), or Dyana (Sanskrit), in Buddhism, is the name given to very deep absorption of mind which occurs in experienced meditators. As such, it is a 'mental' state in which all dualistic concepts vanish and non-dualism arises. It is experienced by a living practitioner of meditation. This is almost the opposite of Jhanna. Any similarity is more likely to be coincidental. There is no formally established linguistic connection.

Religions are. Not Human creation. Certainly Paganism which praised statues, idols or even human worshipping. The Monotheist Religions are the creation of GOD. Their Mission was to combat PAGANISM and disobedience and lead people to the path of GOD through Messagers. Prophets in Islam,Judaism and Christianism were mostly the same people sharing nearly the same story and history. Which proved that they were true Messengers of GOD. The KORAN, the last BOOK to be revealed was to correct and to complete some of the Thorah and the Gospel teachings.
