Is so interesting that I found this video. As a teen I struggled a lot with social anxiety and kind of managed it as you described Robert did: embracing it, forcing myself into the understanding that it could NOT harm me as long as I didn't let it in my way and that overall was an indicator that I was doing things right and actually taking paths that I wouldn't take originally because of fear. I not longer struggle with those levels of anxiety anymore and had gotten a lot more skilled at controlling it. Felt like magic to improve so much.

Living with anxiety and trying to improve social skills is a big mess. I've never seen anxiety in such a positive light.. it's intriguing and it has given me hope. Could you please talk about anxiety sometimes on the channel? Or maybe host another anxious celebrity on "classic charm"?
@Champ19885 жыл бұрын
I can empathize with Pattinson. We're probably similar in that we love people; yet we're far different than most people. The anxiety comes from being what others think you are. We're just being ourselves. But because of our look or whatever it is; people hold us to certain traits. So we want to maintain what people like. But we also want people to know we're nothing like who they think we are. It's very complicated. It's almost an act within an act based on perception and reality. And now that people are starting to get to know him; he has less anxiety to keep up the perception within his reality.
@AnthonyRecenello5 жыл бұрын
I completely understand Champ. I’m also a pretty “dueled” person. I think he’s definitely liking the new perception of him being who he really wants to be. And I think he’s glad he gets the opportunity to take on these new roles.

The thing is no matter how hard and sophisticated the methods of overcoming your shyness are,the result is the same -your shyness and public anxiety are still with you))According to my experience and observations people never change ,they just play a role that has to be played in a specific situation.And there’s no difference between film and real life on this point,because all of us are actors in some way)) A shy person has to keep his shyness and public anxiety within himself throughout his life, for even if you’re pretending to be a confident one, it’s only for a reason -not because you overcame shyness. As for Robert I feel him being in a constant spiritual search ,that he is not aware of ) And this makes him so precious as an actor and a person first .

I too suffer from social anxiety, & I really dont like people very much. Its getting better with each passing year & I honestly cant say why its getting better. Pattinson's anxiety is really bad, so he often makes up stories & his voice often takes on a higher pitch during interviews & he pulls on his hair. With his current success, he does seem to be becoming a little more comfortable, but I think the stress from all that anxiety wreaks havoc one's physical being & causes high blood pressure & sleeplessness, & in some causes cardiac issues. He's a good actor, but I often think one day he's gonna collapse from sheer anxiety in one of these public events. I really hope not.
@AnthonyRecenello5 жыл бұрын

I never knew this about him. I thought the Twilight movies were cheesy but honestly this sort of changes my perspective on the movie. I only went to see the movies because I was on a date and the girl I was with wanted to watch them. But as someone who is a few months from 30 years old, and also deals with rather severe social anxiety, I can see the art work in his movies now knowing what he’s going through during those scenes. I’m in sales and the anxiety I feel on each and every phone call or face to face meeting I have is ridiculous but it’s something I use to relax the person I’m talking to. They are able to say exactly what they want and I just listen. It works well for me and I only chime in when necessary. It’s interesting how those of us with social anxiety can use it to our “advantage.” Nice video man!

I totally get you. I'll be in a social setting come home and feel exhausted. At first I couldn't understand why but then I began to realise that it is the adrenaline built up from trying to overcome sate, feeling overwhelmed and over stimulated by social settings (since I am overly observant of myself and others.) The best way to explain anxiety is that the brain is like a computer. If you press several buttons (try to enter a lot of information at the same time, it will a) become overprocessed and struggle to keep up, b) freeze, c) crash. Anxiety has been the biggest thorn in my side.

@@cp2342 The key to building confidence in social situations is to not think. I've noticed that a lot of people that have social anxiety will start the cycle before or on the way to the actual social event. Then by the time they get there they are already worked up. Im not there yet but some things that are helping me are A) distracting my mind before an event so that I am not pre emptying feeling anxious when in social situations, singing or reciting a poem repeatedly in my head helps as it's hard to think about anxiety (start the cycle), when reciting something. Getting to events early so that I don't walk into an overly stimulated situation. If I am somewhere and it starts to get busier over time I cope better. C) practice speaking to strangers (asking for the time, direction etc...) to get over the hurdle of talking to strangers. I wish you well, and please give yourself credit for being the fighter (that many social anxiety sufferers are), in order to endure incredibly uncomfortable social settings.

It seems you have misunderstood something. Robert doesn't need to have social anxiety all his life, no one does. It is a treatable disorder and can be overcome completely, not just manageable. Neuroplasticity is a thing, and with the right system of gradual exposure, everyone can permanently learn that once "dangerous" situations are safe. That being said, Robert obviously didn't pass through this system, he was managing anxiety. From what I know he is one of the bravest actors.
