Rolex is only the ‘king’ of luxury watches to people who don’t actually know anything about nice watches. The holy trinity (“best”) watch brands are Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and Vacheron Constantin.

Limited quantity crafted for different designs will make watch lovers sort for it to their collections. It’s just my personal opinion. I bought the Daytona in gold and steel with diamonds from Rolex and there watches are pretty impressive for there craftsmanship. I do plan on buying the daydate in gold with diamonds but it is $$$ maybe the used ones are worth it? I'm a little skeptic about it, so the other option is Tudor.

I believe where they truly "wins" is more on the market placement and the image they build. as if based off build quality, design etc. there's many brand has out done them... ex: you can go anywhere in the world, and trade Rolex as a currency. however. not for JLC, AP or any other more higher priced watches.

Rolex makes very strong watches with good quality parts and metals. Rolex is also a status symbol watch. Rolex doesn't have to make a smart watch aka mini redondant cell phone watch like the apple watch to satisfy millennials. When the millennials get into their 30s they will gravitate naturally to Rolex and other Swiss watches. To not get fakes when you are buying a watch buy the dealer not the watch. It is strange that Hans Wildorf left Rolex for his foundation and not his children.

Rolex is the king of luxury watches, but it will be an ignorant mistake to equate Rolex to haute horology dominated by PP, VC, AP.....then A Lange and JLC all sit above Rolex in heritage and craftmanship. Rolex is not hand built as erroneously stated by A lux, rather it's machine guided. I am a big Rolex fan but let's not exaggerate their craftmanship and heritage, that why Rolex have a case back to hide their robust utilitarian movement. Rolex in a working man's watch and was priced on a week's wages in the early 1900s, till date it is relatively well priced when compared to haute horology.

Most people like to start with a stainless steel sports model. But good luck with that, Rolex doesn't want to sell you one. Not one of their boutiques will have one in stock over the last two years. Get on a several-year waiting list.
