Same here. I hardly ever subscribe to a channel after seeing just one video, but I made an exception for this channel.

Was deification ever for sale?
@WildMen44443 ай бұрын
@@davidhoffman6980 No. Deification was never offered as a commercial service. For starters, it's a terrible business model. Deification in Rome was only ever for members of the imperial family that died. You literally would never get to enjoy it in this life. Not to mention, considering that the Romans practiced ancestor worship, it would be a gigantic waste of money to pay for something that you would have already gotten for free from your family. A part of the reason people started worshipping the Emperors to begin with is because of their belief in ancestor worship (with the emperors essentially becoming divine communal ancestors). So no, for that and other reasons I could go into, they never sold deification. No one in their right mind would buy it.

“Shortly after Caesar's death, a bright comet appeared in the sky for seven days; many Romans interpreted this as a sign of [his] ascension to the heavens.” Wow, this reminded me of the eclipse that happened when Prophet Muhammad's son died, and his followers took it as a condolence from God, to which he responded: “The sun and the moon are two of God’s signs; they are not eclipsed on account of anyone’s death or on account of anyone's birth, so when you see that, supplicate God, declare His greatness, pray, and give alms.”

I thought about you a lot while writing this script 👊🏻
@WildMen44443 ай бұрын
@@TheLegendaryLore Lol that's funny. I'm surprised though you didn't really go into the background of the practice. The imperial cult has a bit of an interesting pedigree in that it essentially is a combination of Roman and Hellenistic traditions. It's also interesting to note that it was practiced differently depending on whether or not you were in Rome or in the Greek East

hello mate I need your suggestion, I'm thinking of naming my son after Marcus Aurelius, should I name him 1) Auri 2) Aure. Do you have any other names from the old roman/greek that are one syllable and easy to pronounce?

Why not Marcus? Congratulations by the way!

@@kcpauz Greek and Latin names tend to be pretty long. The short ones tend to be pretty out there. Could you imagine being named Ion? Or Otho? I certainly wouldn't recommend Geta unless you don't mind if he hates his middle school years. Ajax might work though!
