Romanians usually tend to be divided, but the war in Ukraine made me feel proud to be romanian when the people organized themselves within the first hours of invasion and went straight to the border and gave help way before the authorities even did something. I really am proud we help our ukrainian neighbors, for so many years the relation between these two nations were kinda cold but it seems that what diplomacy couldnt achieve in so many years, just one month of war changed totally the roadmap of friendship between RO and UKR. Almost everyone that I know did something for ukrainians, from food and blankets to donating blood and moneys. I worked few months in Kyiv back in 2020 and I cannot take out of my head that city, I was planning with some friends of mine to make a city-break into Odessa and Kyiv in summer, I'm so sad that plan had to be messed up. However the works on the Moldova highway whose northern end is at the Ukraine border start this year and it will be a good opportunity for have the Ukrainian workers come here and work. It's just something about Eastern European culture and our upbringing that makes all these nations, from Greece to Estonia, from Poland to Russia help eachother. I'll give a kind of unrelated example, but I was in Ruse, Bulgaria with the Erasmus student exchange program. Met some awesome people there and from the first minute of conversation I've already felt like we were part of a big family. And I would feel the same with any of our neighbours. I'd help anyone, even if they were an ordinary Russian citizen. They are not responsible for the actions of a demented old man up in Kremlin Palace. Big love from Romania to every Eastern European nation out there.

I did not have enough LEI in cash (they didn't have card payment) at the market in Sighetu-Marmatiei and the lady did not want to take our money. We offered her 10 dollars and every1 in the store said NO, including the shop owner. I went in Ukraine in 2010 and visited the country. I can say that I saw rasist people, not willing to talk or help. We were almost kicked out from a shop, because we didn't speak Russian. Everybody looked with hate when they saw that we do not speak Russian. If Romania had this problem, I am almost convinced that in Ukraine nobody would have helped us. Very cold people. By the way... That’s exactly what I suspected, that Russia and Ukraine were never tourist friendly countries and the only real reason anyone would go there as a tourist if they didn’t have family there was if they were looking for a foreign bride. On the video interview of this channel creator with Alina McLeod, I believe they mentioned that up to 95% of the tourists in Ukraine were single or divorced men. I also read that even a Ukrainian American man who just left the country as a teenager was treated as a foreigner when he returned there many years later. Still, he recommended that every western man should try visiting there at least once because it would give them a harsh cold brutal taste of reality that’s beneficial for their character.
@revolutionaryhealing99922 жыл бұрын
I saw a Russian guy interviewed on the channel 1420 however describe his impression about Americans is that they’re usually friendly and joking around in the beginning, only to end up sticking a knife in your back. I believe the people in Russia/Ukraine are the opposite way, and may come across cold and impersonal in the beginning, but can become excessively warm/friendly once they get to know and like you

Wrong, Romanian language is a combination of Latin, Dacian and Slavic language. This is due to all the interactions we had with the Roman Empire, Hungarians, Bulgarians, the Rus Empire and the Ottoman empire. Our language is not Latin, it does have Latin influences but its a combination of multiple languages.

Over the last +100years Romanians helped a lot of Ethnicities. What did we get in turn? Our people got killed, deported, and nowadays discriminated at large scale everywhere. We are way too kind for such an unfair world. How the heck did we manage to survive throughout our history...
@CRP172 жыл бұрын
In respect of Ukrainains there were always big issues with them. 1) they cooperated and cherished the invading Russians of Northern Bucovina, current Rep.of Moldova and Budjak at the Black Sea. Later on they helped a lot deporting hundred thousands and killing thousands of Romanians just because they were Romanians living on their native lands. Even today not even a damn excuse was said... 2) They even started and participate on the Russian side during the Transnistrian War and again killing Romanians (Moldovans) 3) Caused a lot of troubles on the Danube Delta which almost started a war between us. Later on only stopped because Romanians renounced in order to be accepted to NATO. 4) Discriminating and threatening Romanians in case they dare to ask about their minority rights which both countries signed in 1997 as a guarantee of the current borders.

You are mainly referring to Soviet crimes not Ukrainian ones. Also the Ukrainian government has changed dramatically its orientation since 2014 and the EuroMaidan Revolution. You can speak Romanian all you want in Ukraine (I've spoken with locals in Romanian in Odesa and Chernivtsi oblasts - it's not illegal or something) but school education cannot be exclusively in Romanian so that everyone speaks a decent level of Ukrainian in the country. I don't see a big problem with that.

I am from Bulgaria and sadly what I observe in terms of Bulgarian's attitude towards Ukraine and Ukrainians makes me quite upset. Similar to Serbia, majority is very firmly pro Russian and blindly supports the agression, as an EU country it is just unbelievable how oblivious those people are, successfully brainwashed by the narrative of a false brotherhood and supporting opression, while controversially being part of an istritution (EU) standing for the complete opposite values. Great to see Romania has a different tendency, the most important is that we are on the side of humanity and peace and not violence and tirany.
