As a Romanian from the south, I read and watch Moldavian news, it's in the cleanest, most literary form of Romanian. A reunification of the countries may not occur during my lifetime, but the least we can do is cooperate and help each other in a brotherly way.

As a Moldovan it's inevitable it will happen sooner than later. The pro Russian forces here are literally dying off as they are mostly made up of elderly brainwashed Soviet era people. The whole theft of a billion debacle killed what little faith was left in turning things around. As morbid as it sounds, as a Unionist the theft was a blessing in disguise
@poofoh6889

Unification will not happen in your lifetime just by your will. All Moldovans will fight and defend their independence as if from Russians or Romanians. Romania wants to seize this territory, but this territory is not a region, but an independent country - Moldova. Most Moldovans do not want to unite with Romania, they want to unite Western Moldova with the existing Eastern Moldova within the borders of 1359.

If Bavaria suddenly went independent from Germany but still remained in the EU and NATO, wouldn't the other Germans want Bavaria to be part of their country again?Because of their brotherhood, economic and cultural benefit?If Moldova joins Romania it will also become much richer and it will instantly be in NATO and the EU, without any bureaucracy or entry fees. I'm not an arabist but as a linguist I doubt that in all Arabian countries the language hasn't changed for a thousand years. I'm sure that there are varietes of Arabic which are not mutually inteligible/understandable. Coming back to your statement, this is the society who decides if they speak a variety of a language or a seperate language and it also should be possible to decide by the people if they are one nation or seperate. In the case of Moldova, there was decided that they didn't speak Moldovan anymore but Romanian instead. What about else? It's hard to say... I've heard that people willing to be Romanian are already there (they got Romanian passports) whereas the rest remained in Moldova.

NDD English, Spanish, French speaking countries are either are separated by sea or they would be wayyy to big if they were one country and the same thing the the balkan wars would happen. Idk about the arabs, but maybe because cultural and *because that's how the europeans made the borders* Now the last part doesn't make a lot of sense as all of those are different languages and they would revolt if they were one country as seen from the Russian "empires".

Romanians exist as a nation since the 19 cenutry, like any other nation. "But sorry to destroy your dreams but moldavians are infact another romanian principality inhabitanted by romanians" Romanian is who declare to be romanian and moldovan is who declare to be moldovan, and not someone of special heritage or genes.And 70% of moldovas population call themself moldovans, who are you to desicde who is who? "Even romanians or wallachians founded the principality not "moldavians" Moldavians are just like wallachians A vlach principality That spoke latin Had latin names both for people and cities" The territory that became later known as the principality of moldova was even never part of the roman province dacia.The Romanians are a slavic/dacian mix and share more common genes with serbs, bosniaks and croats as with italians or french, speaking a latin language doesnt make someone of latin or roman origin since romans where not an ethnic group but citizens of rome, a black african man who became citizen was also a roman, or a greek speaking man who became citizen of rome was also roman.Latin is just the language of the tribe of the "latins" who founded rome and the language became official and vulgar latin was the lingua franca from which the romanian language later envolved thru mixing with slavic and dacian dialects.There are many city names in romania of slavic origin like "brasov" and campulung(former known as "dlugopole"), the first rulers of moldova were also of slavic origin like "latco/latko", church slavonic was the liturgical language since it was founded to turn slavic people to christianity.There are "aromanians" "megleno romanians"(who call themself vlahs and not romanians) and "istro romanians", the first two have more greek vocabulary as standart romanian cuz they lived between greeks long time, istro romanians have more slavic by the infuence of serbo-croatian cuz they live in istria in croatia. "both orthadox and never went to war since they were both daco-roman brothers" Most peasants and common people couldnt even write and read, they didnt know they where "brothers" and didnt care about language or nationality untill the 19 century. And valahia and moldova were on oppisite sites when poland and turkey fought. "Moldovans are romanians Austrians are germans Montenegrins are serbian Sekay people in transylvania are hungarian and so on" Why exactly?Because of the language?Then swiss ppl are germans, belgian ppl are french and dutch, irish ppl are english....Speaking a language doesnt make you a nation, and nationality is not the same as ethnicity.

The Turkish Cypriots can and do obtain citizenship from the republic of Cyprus and are full EU citizens. They often cross the border to work in the south and generally hold demonstrations whenever Erdogan visits the island. Greek Cypriots have some work to do to accept them but I guess that's what 400 years of oppression by the Ottomans does to people and I guess there is mistrust when instead of population exchanges the Greeks and Armenians got genocides. It's not mentioned in the video, but a large reason for Transnistria's existence is military support from Russia, which continues to influence the region to this day. Similar republics also popped up(with Russian support) in Ukraine, Georgia and Azerbaijan. It's a very unique method used to sort of forever chain these nations to Russia. The only other country to have done something like this that I can think of is Turkey with it's Northern Cyprus state.

3:22 You forgot to mention the Gagauz people. They briefly declared their independence from the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic (Moldavian SSR) as the Gagauzian SSR, which the Moldovan side obviously didn’t recognize and considered its declaration anti-constitutional. A group of Moldovan volunteers, along with the Moldovan police, marched into Gagauzia in protest, but Soviet Army regiments were deployed just in time to prevent any bloodshed between the two sides. After the collapse of the USSR, Gagauzia (now as the Republic of Gagauzia) existed for 4 years as an unrecognized state (all the while a war was going on in Transnistria, in eastern Moldova), internationally acknowledged as part of the independent Republic of Moldova. Then, in 1994, after lengthy talks, the Moldovan and Gagauz sides came to an agreement and Gagauzia was peacefully reintegrated into the rest of Moldova, with the central Moldovan government granting it the status of an autonomy (with the right to its own autonomous government and an elected governor) as the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, which still exists to this day.

That’s precisely my argument - the utopia sounds very appealing, Soviets didn’t have to force“socialism” on Eastern Europe, because they’ve already had very large movement given that it was a great depression and then a war. Countries Like Finland and Austria opted out and were left alone in exchange for neutrality. Socialism is still too appealing today even with the USSR grand fiasco. It’s so trending in the US. I grew up in the USSR, but no matter how much I’ve tried to explain my daughter what a disastrous system socialism is, my daughter is the president of a socialists club in her college. As Romanian I have to commend your work on this video as it's refreshingly accurate, even if very fast passed/short. So current Republic of Moldova, is about half of medieval voivodate of Moldavia. Due to struggle with the Ottomans, half was annexed later on by Russian Empire, the half that was free...chose to Unite with Wallachia (in a way tricking the HUNGRY empires around) by electing the same ruler Alexandru Ioan Cuza, forming the Kingdom of Romania. For a brief moment after Ww1 all of Moldavia was also united with România, Again by vote. But Stalin later on had different plans, and managed to alter history and it's ...more natural course. His work was so effective and brutal that even today there are people în Moldova that think Romanians are 'the devil' or.. mere gypsies with an outrageus ambition or claim to history.

@@robertdole5391 In my opinion most Romanians I think to this day would vote Yes in a referendum. Even if Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Europe, if not the most poor country, majority of people would vote yes due to our common roots and culture. Ironically Moldova wanted to unite in the 90s with overwhelming majority, but at that point Romania had a "post"communist cabinet in charge, that shut this option down, while even visiting Moskow, Ion Iliescu in my mind did not have the best interest of Romania at heart, and he was a sociopath , a reptile that transitioned from being leader in Communism to being leader in "Democracy" now. (maybe soviet asset in past). As time passed however it became clear that there was massive interest from some lobbies from former USSR to control Republic of Moldova. Even if I believe Putin himself said once or twice that eventually Moldova should unite with Romania if that's what is wanted or needed there. But they may have been just political doublespeak. Or maybe Putin was sincere but the lobbies pulling the strings in Moldova were just to strongly rooted in. (At least from what he said Putin seemed more interested in keeping control over Transnistria than over all of Moldova.. which again is a complicated matter). Moldova had many scandals over the past decade , but most minorities and even some of the majority was subverted to not be so pro union with Romania. They used propaganda talking points from WW2, and even claimed we are different peoples. Even the Orthodox Church in Moldova is most of the time used as a mouth piece (often corrupt) for the interests of the same people that once deported them to Siberia... Its pretty sick actually. But history runs it's course... and at this moment we cant rush anything, it's up to them to decide, or to awaken from the deep sleep of the tyrants . All I can do is wish them the best whatever they choose. Some say there is also the scenario that Moldova joined the EU , and/or joins Romania later on, if that would be still required by majority. But at this point as I said only time can tell.

i am from moldova and i find it fascinating that the country survived so many alterations. there is the land that wants to be moldova. and i am also in awe about how open minded and unique it is to have grown up in chisinau and be around 2 languages that are so intertwined. my grandmother was basically writing romanian language in russian alphabet when she was a child (cyrilic) and when i grew up i wrote romanian in latin alphabet. we mostly speak both languages. but romanian definitely feels more like moldova than russian. but we cant ignore/change how deep has been the russian influence over the country. we are our own fusion. we don't have the sea or mountains. leave moldova to live beautifully on her valleys,
