Despite uncertainty in the world economy and sanctions, Russia’s economy is set for a broad-based economic recovery. Policies to boost public spending, notably investment, should contribute. Martin Gilman will explore why the Russian authorities have been able to marginalize the impact of the US-instigated sanctions. Gilman will underscore how the most recent legal case involving Baring Vostok could have a much more chilling effect on economic prospects.

Well that depends on how much self-sufficient it becomes over next 5 years. After they pass it will be a question will subsidized goods from EU countries be cheaper than those from Russia. Simply put, who will subsidize more their production. Russia doesn't have unlimited money to throw in that bucket in order to continue it's own growth. Right now I'm eating nachos chips made near Moscow with Russian cheese sauce. Russia introduces reciprocal sanctions gradually banning the importation of foreign products, increasing the production of its own products, freeing up space in the market for it. Also, many manufacturers have moved their production inside Russia, because if the product is produced in Russia, it is legal. Even if it is a foreign brand. For example, thus was banned the introduction of the famous European cheeses and in Russia over the past 5 years, cheese production has increased by almost half, and now they produce even those "hard to create" varieties that were banned. Their success may be due to the painful fact that with every passing day the American empire has less and less to offer it's vassals. Germany needs gas so they do the smart thing and make arrangements to get a secure low cost supply. More and more nations are falling away from the negative influence imposed on them from across the sea. Russia just needs to keep doing what it is doing and they will grow in all areas. Russians are Orthodox Christian Slavs. They are totally different from the rest of the world in their way of thinking. Their minds are not duality minds like in the Western civilization, but Quantum minds. Their long term goal is to colonize the Moon, Mars, to be as technologically advanced as possible, and in term of military to be mightier than they're already. These people do not have in their doctrine to attack any other nation on the planet, but to cooperate together for a higher goals of Planetary civilization. Has any of the American philosophers asked themselves - What is the long term of this nation? The longer term of the US as a nation is to do everything opposite from what they're doing now: To end sanctions for Venezuela, Russia, and most of the African nations and Middle east nations. To respect the International law. To end the regime change wars. To provide their people free education and healthcare for all. To invest in its people, infrastructure, technology, ecology et cetera. To become technologically more advanced in the cooperation with the rest of the world. To eventually colonize the Moon, Mars and other planets in the Solar system. Russian Orthodox Church is about taking your cross and carrying even if it’s heavy, but never heavier than cross of Jesus Christ, obedience to God or being faithful to God in small things and then growing bigger. What is good for everybody, doesn’t mean it’s good for Russians. Good and bad is an abstract concept and can be interpreted based on motives. Any country with an ageing population will increase retirement age. It is inevitable. Thats why russia did the pension reform. Compared to other countries their age of retirement is lower. Of course it will will not be a popular change in any country. Finlands economy for example is being strained by ageing population. And it caused many people in government to resign. Japan arent having enough kids so they have a big population problem too.

Russia lives under western sanctions. USSR lived under western sanctions. Russian empire lived under western sanctions. Even Tsardom of Russia lived under western sanctions. Russia is just too resilient, big and self sufficient to be destroyed by sanctions. Sanctions can just slow down the recovering of Russia. Even much smaller countries survive the sanctions like Cuba, Iran or North Korea. The most powerfull sanctions could be made by the West right after WW2, when the West combined had around 80% of World's GDP. Since that period the GDP percentage of the West is falling. And as a result the western sanctions are becoming less and less effective.

_Relatively_ well. Currently Kremlin is ripping off their own population, as a couple of years old Russian joke goes: "people are the new oil!" As Russian economist Andrey Movchan claims- Russia is so big, it can live under sanction as for decades, just look at Iran. Russia isn't extremely poor nation, about average compared to th ed whole world, but surely poor by Western standards, which means their populace never knew a true prosperity, thus they can tolerate pretty poor conditions for almost forever, they are used to it.

There is a little big problem with GDP in dolars. It depends on exchange rates, so it means nothing, because these rates depends on politycal subjects. You produce goods, not dolars or rublos. So what you produce do not actualy varies with exchange rates. So, when you say russian GDP decreased in 2015 this is not true, because the goods and services produced are the same. It is just a decrease in ruble value related to the dolar, but not a decrease in goods and services produced. If in US a doctor charges 150 dolars for a consult, and in Russia this consult costs 40 dolars, does this means US consult is better than the russian? No, their values are the same as a service, but computed with extremealy diference in GDP evaluation. And the same way with all other goods and services measured in GDP. And this distortion occurs with every country´s GDP. Forget about GDP in dolars. It means nothing

@@strofikornego9408 Learn about the Sino-Soviet split. The fact that US subsequently built a symbiotic economic relationship with China, making use of China's huge cheap but well organized production potentials to sustain the economic growth of US-based multinational companies and outfund the USSR in the arms race while there were numerous border clashes between USSR and China and the trade was non-existant was a major factor in the USSR's breakup. The information revolution helped too, but to a lesser degree. The price was technology transfer to China as well as letting them on US-controlled markets (for now) and great increase in Chinese wealth (mostly at the expense of US and European standards of living which, while still high, are in decline due to negative trade balance with China). But China and Russia are now standing together in most areas in order to prevent US from subduing them. No adversarial party is willing to do deals with the US because it's not a trustworthy regime. Their only foreign policy levers are sanctions and aircraft carriers. No one gives a shit about sanctions and if the aircraft carriers are coming it means there are too many financial stakeholders in the US MIC to stop it. The speaker is an absolute disaster as a speaker. Maybe being a professor or whatever, he is used to people not criticizing him. One step forward would be a clear overall statement - if he is capable of formulating such a thing - of his use of the term "counter factual". I am certainly capable of understanding what the term itself means. However, he uses the term over and over, and I'm not willing to go into the work of guessing what he is really doing in each of these uses. If he has students who are willing to look at this video, they might help him - force him via several iterations - to come up with such a statement. Another area of improvement might be using even the slightest bit of energy and enthusiasm in his presentation. However, maybe he is just tempermentally maybe even genetically incapable forever of doing that.
