Hard standing and a good quality car cover for each vehicle
@JonCoupland9 ай бұрын
Have had some really bad experiences with car covers including paint wear and micro blisters due to moisture (was a good quality cover too) but I don't doubt it might help!
@JonCoupland9 ай бұрын
Hardstanding coming too 😁
@fhwolthuis9 ай бұрын
It needs a thorough clean, at least some rust converter in some places to arrest the rust and a good waxing job might help too. For difficult spots you could try some spray on / speed wax. And the hoses from the sunroof maybe blocked.
@JonCoupland9 ай бұрын
It certainly does need a good old clean (poor thing). Watch this space. It may be in the workshop for this week's podcast 😂

Business as usual, back to proton content! Hope the hard standing helps and maybe car ports for cover, if all goes to plan. I with I had a flat driveway for a car port myself.

Lots of plans for the storage I have ... It's a balancing act of what Dad and I can achieve, money, space and ... Keeping MrsJC on board 😂

Owned a "L" reg. Kids at the time > hated it. Just because of the PROTON name. When picking/dropping off at school they both shrunk down in the seats. So their mates couldn't see them . Ran like a dream. The only problem I had was water leaking into the boot.
@JonCoupland9 ай бұрын
I believe they leaked water from new 😂

I'm no mechanic but it looks in really good nick for 31 yr old car, just a bit grubby and rough at the edges, needs all glass seals replacing. Envious of your multiple parking spaces, just one space would be life-changing for me xD
@JonCoupland9 ай бұрын
Yes it's mechanically sound! I'll get the bucket and sponge on it in a week or so. I'm blessed with my storage 😊
@ScreamingLordStokes9 ай бұрын
Well, i think that's not too bad an outcome Jon. It has been an exceptionally wet winter and early spring. Apparently in South Yorks (not far from Lincs) there were only 3 dry days in February! Can't think of many in March so far either. There seems to be a lot of that green algae around and it seems to like to grow on rubber!
@JonCoupland9 ай бұрын
Yes I need to give it a scrub and absolutely it's been so so wet! Roll on sunny day 😄

Im very fond of this car so it's good to see that the main work required is the stuff you enjoy - the cleaning and valeting. Hopefully the water ingress turns out to be something easily sorted

Would be interested to see how everything looks underneath. Agreed a hard standing would be much better for them.
@JonCoupland9 ай бұрын
Yes in hindsight I should have stuck the camera right deep underneath :) - watch this space. Hopefully Dad and I can sort some hardstanding ASAP

Hard standing and a car port roof like Furious Driving has done. Car covers are no long term solution as the wind and condensation will ruin the paint.
@JonCoupland9 ай бұрын
Hard standing is certainly coming (finally convinced MrsJC) ... Not sure I can get away with a roof right now 😂 Not a massive fan of car covers after I've had paintwork get ruined by them
@bradjohnson16279 ай бұрын
Held up pretty well thankfully. Hardstanding will help. What about a temporary carport?
@danielrussell4469 ай бұрын
Not done too bad jon maybe get it on ramp and check underside maybe wire brushing and underseal to help it and a good clean and machine polish The hard standing should help it as well

Lots of work to do this month

It's a nightmare having no storage, so I sympathise with you. Hopefully, you will get the Proton back into super condition again soon!

Drive it, and sort the rev counter (? off the alternator?) It'll do well to run. As for car covers, they're OK, but pop a layer of old-fashioned bed blankets on before the cover? Always the way, too many cars, not enough space; I feel your pain!
@JonCoupland9 ай бұрын
Oh yeah! Didn't even realise the rev counter was stuck! I can see that once I get it on the road it will spring back to life. I do drive it - it's my daily in the spring and summer ☺️ - I just don't drive it in the salt and slush

British weather this winter has been very wet, think hard standing and a cover would help, maybe not a tight fitting cover something that will allow air flow and not rub against the paint maybe a 6 car carport on the hardstanding i have couple 90's motorbike i cover them in an oil product before they get layed up for winter or this may hurt but thinning the herd a little so at least looking after the cars becomes someone else problem
@JonCoupland9 ай бұрын
Certainly has been wet!

Not sure if you've had chance to look at the leak properly yet but I had the identical problem on the E36 - turns out the rubber sunroof drainage hose that ran down the C-pillar had just popped off. Hopefully yours is the same as its a quick easy fix (as long as you can pull the headliner down enough to get access). Good luck!
@JonCoupland9 ай бұрын
Thanks Ryan! These tend to have just been 'dropped in' at the import centre in Bristol and sadly there isn't much adhesive between the unit and the roof. Saying that! ... Good shout on the drainage system to be checked. I'll certainly do that before I start resealing. ☺️ (Thanks for watching BTW)

@@JonCoupland all good! Always best to start at the easiest thing and work backwards... I found out about the sunroof drain after spending £80 on a new rear window seal at BMW 😂 always watch when I can, your videos are great and only getting better!

You could or your dad could 😁... bulid a car port over the hard stand your going to be doing ... and me with having a Smart with a glass roof i get a lot of moisture in winter so i put dehumidifier bags in the interior which stops a lot of condensation just the type they use in caravans ... but the cars not to bad 🙏

Proton fared ok but would be better at my house… I’m very concerned about the cars on the grass though, bad idea, definitely get the hard standing done. I wouldn’t bother with covers, they tend to cause condensation and scratches in my opinion. I really need to get the Allegro out I’m late this year waking her but I’ve lost my mojo.

Everything is for sale at the right price ... Absolutely will be doing some hard standing :) - it's just getting Dad and I organised to do it 😂 - looking forward to seeing the Allegro again!
