Tommy Brazilian here, Brazil had heavy socialist policies in the last 13 years and it's economy is crumbling now, it's not as bad as Venezuela, but you can clearly see that the population got a grasp about the evils of leftist economic policies. Because of the economy crash and a lot of corrupt scandals envolving the labour party and it's allies(that controled Brazil in the last decades) most of the traditional left wing parties here have distanced themselves from more radical talking points and some even changed their colors from red to purple and other colors(because of the bad pr Venezuela gave to socialists). Left ideology still pretty dominant here on the intelectual academics level, but for the first time in the history of Brazil liberal candidates were elected, and there are a lot of conservative and liberal candidates gaining traction to this years major election. To sum it up, we had a total domination of leftist policies here for 13 years, the economy crashed and now you can see on national debates candidates talking firmly against leftist policies.

Kinda what I thought, I notice a lot of Brazilians following or commenting on a lot of right leaning, anti socialist stuff on KZbin and Facebook which I found interesting. @@PolishBehemoth You seem to misunderstand what capitalism is. What you're talking about is a simple exchange system - something that is present in some form in practically every economic system. Capitalism entails a system in which the means of production are in private ownership, and are being operated for profit. The masses are employed to operate the means of production and produce profit, which is then appropriated by those who own the means of production, the capitalists. Most of the value (profit) the labourers produce, is stolen from them by the capitalists, and that's exploitation.

But it was in 1932. Before Hitler had even gained power. When any Western countries (that really had no appetite for war) would have had to have crossed Germany and Eastern Europe to get to him. However, iit's normally a bad set of choices they create for themselves with easily foreseeable outcomes (I'm currently having this discussion with someone else who can't understand why the move to socialism alone is damaging. Apparently intelligent people can't be expected to see things are going to get worse and leave) so for that, I have no sympathy, and give no praise for fixing it. Venezuela is not a socialist country. It literally is a communist state. Socialism is a liberal economic principle only where as communism is both political and economical. Socialism can very but since it's liberal it accepts to a large degree capitalism like owning land, property, individual wealth and majority of society have a say. Communism is the opposite. It seeks to eliminate all forms of capitalism and no one has a say in the economic system. It is dictated solely by the people ruling the government. When resources of the economy are taken control by the government only and controlled it is communism. So Venezuela is literally now a communist state. It's exceeded a far left social economic state. This video proves everything that it is a communist state. Authoritarian rule, control of all economic resources to the state, elimination of individual corporations, control and distribution of food and resources and health. Pure Communist state.

So, time passed by, businesses competed, large ones arose who had less vacant positions compared to the amount of workers who became unemployed as their businesses were outcompeted and got bankrupt, resulting in more supply for workers than workplaces. This is just a natural cycle that happens in capitalism, where you end up having private multinational corporations driven by profits for the capitalists, while lower tier businesses struggle being a profitable business. And now we've been in a situation where companies overproduced and exploited the workers to a point where they could no longer afford all the commodities the companies produced, resulting in the first major crisis of capitalism, to which they decided to answer with more social policies, credit cards etc. to stimulate consumer power. And what about the next inevitable crisis, then? When not only are consumers as a collective too poor to consume with the speed businesses together produce, but start to have so much debt that capitalists know they can't get paid? What will you do then? Imprison everyone for free labor? Let's take the U.S for example. Look at the charts for: - average savings of an average household - average credit card debt of a household - median household income growth - not to even mention home mortgage. Capitalism worked great in the beginning, but the fundamental flaws are now here. Even meritocracy is arguably better off in a socialist model now compared to capitalism, since in typical capitalist societies people are generally hired for labor work with an hourly wage, where the wages are kept as minimal as possible to reward capitalists to become millionaires without doing any actual work - and they can easily do this the more competitive their businesses are. Pro side of capitalism: Employment is based on voluntary transactions. Downside of capitalism: It creates a societal model where the employee usually has no power to bargain in the first place.

@suyogv82352 ай бұрын
@@robfromvan i forgot how stupid I was 3 years ago thanks for reminding me Regardless, chavez had a mixed quality leadership, I believe the country could've been made greater or made worse in equal probability after his death. He distributed oil profits to the poor, which could've been used as a means to provide the startup capital for those people to pull themselves out of poverty, and if things had been done right could have been great for the country (less poverty means less welfare required after all) but he also anchored the country's success to its oil, and that meant it would succeed or fail based on the global price of oil. The problem was that venezuela's system depended so strongly on hard-to-refine oil. Something politicians forget is the practical realities of the oil in question. Venezuelan oil to this day is expansive, but low-grade, meaning it needs lots of processing at its final destination. The US had this infrastructure in louisiana and thus they prospered trading with the US. However, they got complicit with their oil success, which may have been because of chavez in some part, which led to them doubling down on running the country off oil like mexico did, and got crushed in the post-2013 period when oil prices crashed, and because their entire economy ran off oil (welfare included) they were in deep trouble. The issue is that after 2010 the government got overconfident with their oil and started taking on loans and debts they were then unable to pay off after the crash. At the same time, venezuelan oil became less competitive than oil from other countries like saudi arabia and American fracking, and this led to those louisiana refineries being closed down. With the louisiana refineries closed down, very few places on earth could even use venezuelan oil becaused it needed extensive refining on site that had now been shut down. Thus, the big engine holding the whole country together died in two years, and maduro's successive flailing attempts to fix the country couldn't do much. I wouldn't entirely blame the failure on chavez, I believe maduro was given a shot at keeping the nation afloat in 2013 and 2014 but royally fumbled the bag, had he been a more competent leader the country may have had some hard times but would've been recoverable. Chavez played a very risky game that in retrospect he perhaps shouldn't have, but it was not the fact that he gave poor people money the reason why the country went so south it was because he paid the entire government off with oil money from the 2000s boom and took loans he shouldn't have in the 2010s that really caused the problems venezuela is faced with now.

Capitalism is an economic system. In it the government plays a secondary role. People and companies make most of the decisions, and own most of the property. ... The means of production are largely or entirely privately owned (by individuals or companies) and operated for profit. The profits are distributed in proportion to the power of investors (capitalists) for example the minimum price for labour yields the highest return for the investor. The major flaw with this economic model is the need for state regulation and the redistribution of wealth to prevent the system from collapse. The result of government intervention is termed a mixed economy. Right wing idealists believe that capitalism would enrich all while left wing idealists believe it creates relative poverty. Relative poverty is accepted to be a cause of disfuntion in a society. Capitalist nations operating more to the left spectrum report far greater happiness and well being, while right leaning economies may claim more disproportionately wealthy individuals. The left bias is proven to create the highest productivity and as a standard measure this concludes a better economy. Clearly left bias is not socialist or communist but predominantly capitalist. State operated key services like ; police, military, education, healthcare, transport, communications, water and power supplies are in effect socialist principles and are key macro economic assets that support and enhance the free market section of the mixed economy. Key indicators of right bias are: high relative poverty, child poverty, absolute poverty, homelessness, polarized wealth, high military expenditure. Key indicators of left bias are: productivity, happiness, good public health, low poverty, higher education.

A lot of people misunderstand socialism, which is true. However the argument on Venezuela isn't that it isn't "real socialism". The issue with Venezuela, and most other attempts at socialism, are issues that arise because of capitalism and US interference with their politics, as well as CIA attempts at assassinations and coups. Venezuela's economy crashed dramatically when oil prices dropped, as it was their main export and source of wealth. There is then things that are not helpful, such as things like operation gideon where, like I said, the US does whatever it can to ensure it DOESNT work. There is a reason behind the "socialism hasn't been tried" statement, the issue is that many people that aren't socialists claim they are, and use that statement without knowing why they're saying it. Can we honestly say that socialism is getting a shot to be tried out when it is constantly being intentionally attacked and interfered with by a global superpower?

Chille: A little country with little to no resources in south america + Capitalism = $13.8k GDP per Capita according to google. Venezuela: Biggest comfirmed oil Reserve in the world in south america + Socialism = $12.2k GDP per Capita according to google. and those figures were recorded back in 2013, it's been 4 years since then now and Venezuela has gotten much worse while Chille has improved. EDIT: Here is further research that *watchdealer11* has provided down below and it's so good i'm attaching it to this comment right here, Thanks *watchdealer11* , here it is. ------------------ *5 way capitalist Chile is better than Socialist Venezuela* As economic freedom increased, so did income per capita(adjusted for inflation and purchasing power parity), which rose from being 31 percent of that in Venezuela to being 138 percent of that in Venezuela. Between 1975 and 2015, the Chilean economy grew by 287 percent. Venezuela’s shrunk by 12 percent. 2. As its economy expanded, so did Chile’s ability to provide good health care for its people. In 1975, Chile’s infant mortalityrate was 33 percent higher than Venezuela’s. In 2015, almost twice as many infants died in Venezuela as those who died in Chile. 3. With declining infant mortality and improving standard of living came a steady increase in life expectancy. In 1975, Venezuelans lived longer than Chileans. In 2014, a typical Chilean lived over 7 years longer than the average citizen of the Bolivarian Republic. 4. Moreover, more Chileans of both sexes survive to old age than they do in Venezuela. As they enter their retirement, the people of Chile enjoy a private social security system that was put into place by Cato’s distinguished senior fellow Jose Pinera. The system generates an average return of 10 percent per year (rather than the paltry 2 percent generated by the state-run social security system in the United States). 5. Last, but not least, as the people of Chile grew richer, they started demanding more say in the running of their country. Starting in the late 1980s, the military gradually and peacefully handed power over to democratically-elected representatives. In Venezuela, the opposite has happened. As failure of socialism became more apparent, the government had to resort to ever more repressive measures in order to keep itself in power-just as Friedrich Hayek predicted. -------------------

USSR had very harsh dictators, nothing to do with socialism. It's actually the reverse. Poverty in Russia and the satellites countries increased significantly after the fall of the Iron Curtain. Capitalist interests entrered the country, so the expected result is even more inequalities in wealth. Also, current Russia is a northern country, it's a lot of work to come to a similar level as the USA, because USA won the geographical lottery a few centuries ago. They have a humongous amount of acres of arable land, and they don't have to deal with extreme low temperatures.

As many said before, the problem with socialism, is that you eventually run out of money. When socialism takes over a country people work less, knowing they will receive benefits from the state. So when people work less (which is a fact that they do such in socialist countries), the less taxes people pay, the less resources the state gets. Because people have a tendency to work less when they know they will receive benefits WITHOUT WORKING. So the longer the time goes, the more money and resources the government loses, and the more money they have to give out. Which leads to everyone losing, everyone being poor. The government will only have two choices, spend more money than they receive from taxes, making they going in to debt. Or they forcing the citizens to buy less, eat less and starving themself’s. Socialism doesn’t work, let’s just state the facts. Socialism makes people work less, thinking of lying on other people’s money. When the truth is all the others think the same. Socialism is all about getting and taking from the government. But the government doesn’t magically get money, the government receives money from people working. But when they’re aren’t any people working, where does the money come from? Socialism makes everyone poor.
@Casimir466 жыл бұрын
Ginga Boy *Newsflash from someone who actually read Marx!* Socialism is NOT about Big Government and does NOT recommend equality of outcomes. Socialism is about workers owning their own means of production, which does NOT necessitate the state controlling industry, as in Venezuela. Workers can own businesses through cooperatives (see: Democracy at Work by Richard Wolff). Anyone who wants to tell you that Venezuela is a good example of socialism wants to cage your mind and control you. Actually read Marx and you'll find the meaning of socialism.

And people have indeed showed a tendency to work less and lie on others money.

Hence why America started the cold war with the USSR . It was a war of idealistic industries with different political governments. Democracy won over them due to the fact individuals are exactly that individuals. You give a man a fish he will eat for a day. You teach a man how to fish he will eat for his whole life. This means letting someone take care of you when you indeed can take care of yourself is self destructive and Socialism is exactly that self destructive because it expects everyone to work together for common good. Good luck with that

Socialism as an ideology was founded on the idea that no-one should be able to dictate and exploit groups of workers. This means that not only should the private sector be abolished, the public sector should be limited to necessities only and should not involve in enterprise.
@thefinnishsocialist48167 жыл бұрын
Sure, there are forms of socialism where the the state directly owns the means of production, which then redirects them to the collective (such as Marxism-Leninism). The problem with this is, as we've seen, is that the state has a possibility to take total control over the collective, but in socialism this doesn't have to be the case. Only those forms of socialism with a powerful state =/= socialism as a whole. There are forms of socialism e.g. "Market socialism", which advocates for a free market and e.g. "Libertarian socialism", which in turn advocates for a limited government. Nothing stops from these two being merged. Socialism as a whole can be explained in one sentence: _"Abolition of private ownership and collective owning the means of production"_

Of course, the CIA intervened on the DEMOCRATICALLY elected president, then allied with General Pinochet in an illegal coup against Allende. Allende died September 11th, 1973, and Pinochet established himself as a dictator, serving US interests, dissolving the Chilean congress, and creating a stranglehold upon the country until the US started aiding them like crazy to make an economic miracle come to fruition. That’s the type of stuff the US does, and that’s one of the many reasons why it’s almost impossible to achieve socialism by voting it in. Every socialist country on earth has been crippled not be economic mismanagement (though it happens sometimes) but by embargo’s and sanctions that cripple the nation’s economy. We can’t claim that socialism doesn’t work until we actually aid and assist a transitioning country trying to achieve it.

Raghu Mulukutla Finland and Sweden follow the Nordic model, a capitalist free market with some social programs, it is not socialist. Germany still operates under free market and privately owned businesses and corporations, like Finland and Sweden, it has a lot of social programs, but its economic model is not socialism. India is a socialist country, but do you really want to use it as an example? It's just like using Venezuela, it isn't doing well. China was communist for many years but since the early the 1970's has move to a capitalist system, again it has social programs, but it is still a capitalist economy. I t's the same with Vietnam, a communist country turned capitalist with social programs. By now i'm sure you get the picture with all of these countries. None of them are socialist except India, and like someone else said, its a shit hole. All of these counties operate under free market, private industry capitalism. The reason everyone tries to praise them for being "socialist" is because the government has social programs leeching off capitalist success. Take that away and have a full socialist state like Venezuela and you'll be like Venezuela.

As a Venezuelan born that moved away when I was 1 to the United States I have to say that socialism ruined our economy, it wasn’t that we’re almost 90% dependent on our oil to fuel the economy and oil prices change rapidly, not to mention sanctions that have been going on for decades

Socialism is a bad idea. All bad ideas of the history had been based on it. Venezuela is a sad story. It would be a nice country without the communist goverment. This is my opinion on Cuba, Vietnam and mainly on North Korea. I hope all these countries Venezuela, Cuba and Vietnam will have anti-communist goverment in the future and I also hope that North Korea won't exist in the future. my country Hungary had been under communist dictatorship between 1945 and 1989 but now we are a free democratic anti-communist goverment and free trade. We had a hard way to back. I hope that communist goverment in Venezuela will collapse also and Venezuela will have a democratic and anti-communist goverment. And free trade

Their governments are largely headed by Communist parties. Obviously you could make the oft-repeated (and factual) claim that a Communist government is an oxymoron. Which is the end goal, socialism being viewed as a step towards that. We can't say that experience shows us actual Communist governments are bad, because all we have is consistent catastrophic failures in the attempt to reach Communism.

@@jc6781 If your system is not able to stand against any little improper event or work, your system sucks. The most wise side of capitalism is that it's based on the idea that people will often make mistakes and it's consequences won't be as bad as in socialism. Because in order to socialism to work properly, you have to assume that every single individual (worker or people who has power) are going to do the best thing and they will work hard, help each other all the time. Which is why it is utopia. We can't create utopia, because we as human beings are part of it.
