Vinayak Damodar Savarkar or Veer Savarkar spent a decade in jail in the Andamans. Here are details of how he was treated there by the British Raj and its prison officials

Very well brought out...sad that proginies of those who didn't suffer even 1/100th torture in Kala pani target him not knowing his tactics and ideology

1. Savarkar was given jail punishments only 8 times in his jail tenure of 10, years. He was given these punishments in the first 3 years and in the remaining 7 years he was not given any punishment and was given works like ropemaking on his request and was made a foreman in 1920 and by 1921 he was even made a supervisor. 2. Following punishments were given to him: 2.1 4 months 15 days solitary confinement in 1911. 2.2 One-month separate confinement in 1912. 2.3 Seven days standing handcuffs in 1912. 2.4 One-month separate confinement in 1912. 2.5 one month’s separate confinement in 1913. 2.6 seven days standing handcuffs in 1914. 2.7 four months chain gorge in 1914. 2.8 10 days crossbar fetters in 1914. 3. These punishments were given for writing letters to others without sanction, for having in possession a letter written to another convict, for being in possession of a note written by another convict, absolutely refusing to work etc. Had Savarkar not done these things he would not have been punished. One cannot break jail rules and complain that he was punished. 4. Jail Ticket does not speak of Savarkar being asked to press oil. 5. There were 3200 prisoners in Andaman Jail and many of them were similarly punished for breaking Jail rules but except three no one else write Mercy Petitions. 6. You claim that “in the year 1908 itself some of the Bengali revolutionaries were involved in Khudiram Bose's plot like Satyendranath Bose they wrote Mercy petitions to the British Raj”. Satyendranath Bose was not involved in any plot and was not a revolutionary but a scientist. Are you not committing the offense of slander by showing his picture as someone who wrote a Mercy Petition? You should not pedal such white lies. 7. Unless you produce proof that Satyendranath Sanyal or Ashfaqulla Khan wrote Mercy Petitions, you claim can only be considered another WHITE LIE. 8. You also claim “Congress’s complete swaraj resolution came in the year 1929. So at least 25 years before that Savarkar had demanded and pressed the demand for complete independence of India”. According to your calculation he must have demanded complete freedom when he was only 21 years old. Will you show proof? The first reference to ‘absolute freedom’ comes in Resolution No. 4 passed in the 23rd Session of the Hindu Mahasabha held in Bhagalpur on the 24th December to 27th December 1941 12 years AFTER Congress demanded complete freedom. Another LIE?
