And I can see why, it does look like the head of a Loong ! Paired with a long, scaly body, it feeps like an embryo for a bigger serpentine animal. Really cool name, really smart, and even important in the local culture ! In french, we call it "hippocampe", which is a french-inated version of the Hippokampos, a greek mythological creature that looks... like a sea horse. But, like, an actual, neighing, mained, horse, but with a fish tail. A mermaid horse, if you will. I'm not sure but I think the english "seahorse" comes from that creature as well, and they just... translated the name

We call jellyfish a “Kurage” 海月 in Japanese. Which means “ocean moon”. I think that’s a pretty name :)

But ocean is "Umi" and moon is "Tsuki" right ? So how "Kurage" can translate than "Ocean moon", this is why Japanese is difficulte to learn 😅

@@nixotane9660 In Chinese 海月 is ocean month/moon cuz 海(hái) is ocean and 月(yuè) is like moon as 月亮 (yùe liàng) is moon but 月(yúe) is month I only know that cuz im Chinese :) 🥰😅

@@nixotane9660 海 by itself is umi and moon is actually tsuki/月 (月 can also mean month/getsu tho) but when kanji are together as a word they have a different reading. That being said kurage is an exception and reads completely different from what you'd expect lol

fun fact, "fish" used to be used for any fully aquatic creature, it's only relatively recently we narrowed the definition. so starfish and jellyfish (and shellfish, cuttlefish, and calling sea mammals fish) were accurate at the time they were coined.
