15:24 I think the soldiers especially not having faces is meant to show how in war the individual is swallowed up. In these huge intergenerational conflicts, countless people die who are all the main character of their own story, we just don’t know their story and never will. This fits really well with the theme of perspective in season 4 and really outlines one of if not the biggest tragedy of attack on titan (and the real world some might say) which is that violence destroys humanity on both a small scale and a large scale. Those killed by war are seen as a collective mass, as a statistic, not as a person each with their own hopes and dreams and hardships.

This is probably one of my most favorite episodes of AOT. As a fan of history, I loved the nods to real-world warfare in this episode. Trench warfare, machine guns, artillery, a literal battle train (which was also used in WWI), but there's a twist: Titan warfare. Having the Jaw and Cart Titans help attack enemy lines and give them an edge in battle was so cool. Then there was dropping Pure Titans onto the fort and Reiner coming in to destroy the rest. And the ost was so freaking good the entire episode. Honestly I wish we got a few more battles like this to really flush out the rest of the world, which honestly wasn't really explored much in the series. I won't lie that I did notice the CGI super quick but unlike a lot of CGI haters I ended up getting used to it and now don't have a problem with it.

I think what truly separates Gabbi and Eren is that Eren hated monsters, he hated something that he had experienced first hand, something that took everything from him. Gabbi has never met, seen, or even understood any of the “devils”, yet she hates them with the same passion. What many don’t understand is that just because she sounds similar to Eren and acts similar doesn’t mean they ARE similar. Gabbi is racist, against people she has never met, yet we are supposed to accept it because we accepted Eren? Eren hated Titans, these aren’t comparable. She obviously was brainwashed by Marley, but that doesn’t mean she gets a get out of jail free card, she went to their homes, saw them help her and still called them devils.

I actually get the feeling that Falco having memories of being a scout on Paradis is more related to him getting a bit of the Beast Titan's power. Technically he has a Titan and a half, and it shows in his Jaw Titan form. He may be the Jaw, but he has wings and feathers from that little bit of the Beast. My theory is that maybe because of this Eren (or just the paths itself) was able to give him a little bit of the Eldian experience on Paradis to make him a greater asset to the Paradisian Eldians in the battle to come. Can't be sure, though.

One aspect of My War to consider is the birds falling section could also represent the death of freedom. Birds always represent freedom and rarely are they depicted as dead or dying. Season 4 is also the official start of Eren officially enacting his plan. Eren, now trapped in a loop, is doomed to carry out an attrocity against his own will to stop it. He's going to carry it out. He's a slave to his own desire. This also goes with the fact that if the world is dead, then no one is free.

I have a theory that explains why Falco has that "flying around with swords" line that maybe works in-universe. In the final movie, when Armin's body is unconscious in the mouth of the okapi titan and his consciousness is chilling with Zeke in the Paths, Armin explicitly recognises that his friends are in danger even though he shouldn't technically know it. He chalks this up to the fact that all Eldians are connected via the paths. I interpret this to mean that while his consciousness is in a low-power state (so to speak), his connection to other Eldians becomes more clear in his mind. It's as if the connection all Eldians share has a continuous influence on them, but the sensations that spiritual influence causes can only be consciously recognised when all the physical systems in the body are quiet enough. I think this is what's happening with Falco. Before his mind fully wakes up, his connection to the Eldians on Paradis via the Paths is just acute enough for him to recount their memories. Just as Armin can "feel" his friends fighting Eren, Falco can "feel" the whooshing of soliders flying using ODMG. It's not as concrete as Titan shifters sharing specific, vivid memories, but it is just enough such that Falco can make out a couple key details.

I think the experiments they have been performing are what Eren unknowingly performed by slurping the armor spinal fluid. Marcel is primarily Jaw with fluid from Cart (movement) and armored- which Marley both had possession of at the time. Ymir got primarily jaw and some cart, idk where the hardening went. Annie also has ability to harden. Falco was hit with Zeke (Beast) fluid, while also inheriting Jaw with cart and armored. Makes more sense why he can fly to me. Also, I always interpreted the opening scene with Falco as a *hint hint, nudge* visit from future Eren to try to save Gabi (and try to save Sasha) from inheriting the armored.

13:51 characters don’t need to have their stories perfectly mirror each other to be effective foils, the differences between their experiences, actions, and outcomes are as important as the similarities. Gabby’s story parallels Erin’s, but it isn’t necessarily meant to be a 1:1

I sort of thought the Falco talking about flyinbecaound and not quite looking how we would expect the jaw to look was because he pseudo-inherited a part of the beast since we only see him shift after Zeke had nearly died and was reborn in a titan AND because he was absorbed into Eren's final form. Also it means that Marco has royal blood in his veins so... maybe he is getting weird memory soup? Unlikely, though.

*AOT S1-S3* : YEAH! GLORY ADVENTURE! KICK THEIR ASSES! F*CK THOSE TITANS! *AOT S4* : God, no...everything is just awful and is getting awfuller. I need a hug 😭

I legit thought it was showing the past, before everyone was sent to parade. i saw reiner and zeek and thought they were their own dads, untill it started filling in facts of the "future" they shouldnt have known. I stayed pretty confused for the first few eps of season 4. also cool this only came out 9 hours ago!! fresh vid!

I love your AOT content! I finished the series recently, and your work has been the perfect companion as I keep thinking about it. Thank you P.S. In the episode where Uri Reiss grabs Kenny Ackerman in his titan form, Uri's titan seems to be dragging it's face on the ground like his brother's. I'm really curious of your take on the observation.

I always thought Falco's titan dream was just from the connection that all Eldians have with one another through the coordinate

Oh yes. Here we go. So happy I found this series when I did. At the time I think there were probably 10 episodes? I binged them all and have been obsessed with the episodic schedule ever since! Glad to have fellow obsessive and overanalyzing friends out in the world!

I like the idea that the midcard might be an encyclopedia entry or something along those lines about Marley and Marley is trying to project strength by stating how many they previously had rather than the truth. The idea that they had lost two titans to some underdeveloped island nation on a military mission they initiated does not project the strength they want to show, so lying that they still have possession of the titans (or maybe believing they will retrieve them so soon it isnt worth mentioning the change) may be a strategic move on their part

It’s a miracle Marley has lasted this long as a nation given their sheer incompetence 😂

Agree with you on Shock, it’s my favorite ending in the series. I sit through the whole thing every time because the visuals are beautiful and I love the song.

I have some nitpicks about Zeke destroying the fleet, but since this is overanalysing, it seems to fit here. :P Battleships are designed to withstand (to a certain degree at least) armour piercing ammunition, shot out of cannons with rifling, so the shells stay stabilized in flight, so they hit armour piercing tip first, then penetrate into the armour and explode inside. If the armour piercing shell hits with too little speed (like if it's thrown, instead of fired out of a cannon) or side or back-on to the target (like when thrown per hand, which would make them tumble in the air), they would do very little to nothing, since they most likely would first bounce off the armour and only then explode or not explode at all. And if he is throwing high explosive shells, which the immediate explosion on the outside of the ships, without delay would suggest... well, HE shells are made to be used against light and unarmoured targets, and are of very little use against the vitals of an armoured battleship. They'll smash up the upper works, but won't penetrate the vital bits, like main magazines, engine rooms or anything below the water line, meaning it's exceptionally unlikely for even a single one of those ships to sink or explode, much less the entire fleet. Of course, since we are dealing with a parallel universe or somesuch, it's possible those ships just look like real-world pre-dreadnought battleships, while actually having paper-thin armour in the story... so, there's that.

For the opening scene its as simple as eren giving falco those memories to make him question marleys goals and lead him to do what he does

3D is not a problem. There is a lot amazing looking 3D movies. Shrek is from 2001 and ppl back then knew how to make good looking animations. Problem is when anime studio thinks they can use 3D as a budget crutch. Without spending time on it, it will always look cheap and worse
@Simp_Supreme2 ай бұрын
yep, Japan also use 2D principles for 3D which creates a terrible jarring mess. UFOTABLE have utilised beautifully and seeing their behind the scenes is great, WIT also used CGI creatively during the graduation ceremony since the scene was meant to be uneasy.

I have to say, the director of s4 Hayashi did such an amazing job that I doubt s4 will turn out this way without him. He has such an insane 3D/CGI diercting experiance that take advantage of that technology and not to mention doing all that under such strict time conditions and covid. He is easily my favorite director in AOT
@RASHON492 ай бұрын
I just assumed Falco could see his memories from the future because Aaron was allowing him to with the founding titan, which isn’t bound by time you know the same way that he could see his own memories and grisha could see his. I assume that was the same thing .

The colours in the opening and the songs cover art suggest it's more about the realisation that our focus is literal child soldiers. It's almost like a kids colouring book.
