As you mentioned, he tricks people into thinking he’s slow and not very reactive. Your only move then is to engage and try to recover the ball, only to find out he can actually move, dribble, feint, cover the ball, and do pretty much whatever he likes with you while you just keep running at him, leaving space that he then exploits. Fun fact from a spaniard that followed the team during those years: Here in Spain there were a lot of doubts coming from the press and the overall fans when Busquets was first selected to play with the national team (in 2009). The fact that they had just won the Eurocup the previous year, combined with Busquets' clear inexperience back then, really put a lot of pressure on the guy. This all got to the point that Del Bosque (the coach back then) had to specifically come out and publicly defend the guy on a press conference and say: "if I was a football player I would like to play like Busquets". I remember thinking that he did the right thing by defending him, but that the statement itself sounded a bit forced just cuz Busquets was literally in like his 2nd or 3rd season playing pro. Turns out Del Bosque knows a bit more about football than I originally suspected 😅
@meruendano6 ай бұрын
Me acuerdo perfectamente.

Kanté showed the world they still exist. Lunging into tackles, body on the line, unreal stamina, and I think that's the key attribute to these players, they can run for days. I'm going to paraphrase, but anyway Vicente Del Bosque once said "If you watch the game you game you don't see Busquets, but if you watch Busquets you see the game." When he said that I didn't understand him, but when I started paying close attention to what he does, I could see that Busquets made Pep's Barca what it was. His awareness and the way he controlled and facilitated the game from deep was amazing, rarely losing the ball and dropping into pockets of space playing one touch passes into Xavi and Iniesta that would put the opposition in danger when they tried to press him, this left space for Neymar, Messi and the other world class attackers to do damage. Case in point, Messi's iconic winning goal in El Clasico at the Bernabau, the move started in Barca's defensive third, when Real Madrid pressed very high, Busquets pass to Roberto(who drove very well with ball btw) was key and is overlooked, but that simple pass and Roberto's run carved a hole in Madrid and allowed Barca to win the match, if he delayed that pass by a split second Madrid could've won the ball and they would've probably created a chance to win the game. He's a Top 3 DM of all time imo. Great player who's impact on the beautiful game is understated, he's influenced players like Rodri who absolutely balled out in the CL final and long may it continue.🐐🐐

Busi's dribbles were not flashy like Neymar or Ronaldinho, but it was very efficient and did the job. People singing Rodri to high heavens, but imo Busquets was a level above Rodri. His game IQ is out of this world.

Only a dumbass would say Rodri is better. Rodri wishes he had a fraction of Busquets skill & vision

@@projol166 Rodri still not near what Busquets was. Big level of difference, only thing was Barca had the greatest players ever so no one gave a damn about Sergio lets be real. Of course were gonna praise Xavi Iniesta Messi over Sergio.

Nobody mentioning Busquets tricky off ball movements. He can open the formations so casually

Sergio Busquets is the only player in history to dribble players very slowly😂😂. It sometimes seems impossible how he do that but al the end he does his job the best

Meanwhile Real Madrid's players would keep standing at their position, waiting for the play to be made... barca players moved to the position, where the pass was anticipated.. That was the main difference

The way other team reacts if he gets the ball, no one tried to press him and just holding their own position because he is really good at picking out teammates and controlling the space.

My favorite position is the DM. I hate busquets. BUT he is the king of the disguised unexpected pass. Nobody has ever done it like he has. Absolutely incredible.
