Hey I contacted you on one of your other videos. I'm now in school and wanted to say Thanks for making these videos, you get to see what your really getting in to. Thanks for the advice on the Temp agency in CA, I'll keep them in mind for when I finish the class.

@@2thang2 That's great. If you don't mind I may have some school questions along the way. Maybe they can help others out there. Thanks!

Just noting you should not be wearing gloves in prep and pack because it signifies that the area or items are dirty. Gloves prevent the sense of touch; you may not feel or catch residues on the instrumentation. Also, no wrappers or tape should be placed on the surface of the workstation. They are made of stainless steel to be easily cleaned and disifected to not cause any cross contaimination. Also a sharpness test should be done on each osteotome and curette. Lastly, catalog numbers are to assist in proper identification of the instrument but you should verify the name and size of the instrument and use the catalog as a verification. There could be various substitutes by other vendors available. The more indicators used, the potential for a failure. If one fails the tray is unusable. Also it is one indicator in the middle for a wrapped set, and opposite corners for a contianerized set. Also verify cleanliness of the container prior to packaging. AAMI ST79.

I know that we are taught to move with a sense of urgency. Have you ever felt rushed to assemble trays and other instrument sets in prep/pack? Also, does the count sheet not get wet during sterilization?
@2thang23 жыл бұрын
Often times yes, especially when it’s an IUSS aka “flashing” or one traying an instrument. In that case we need to move quickly because the patient is already on the table waiting. During the steam sterilization process the count sheet does get wet technically but there also is a drying process in the sterilization cycle as well so it will dry up.

How did you know to use a rigid container... does it say to in the count sheet?
@2thang23 жыл бұрын
Because it is an instrument set. Depending on what it is you need to use an aesculap container. Wrapping this set is not recommended, and peel packing would be too heavy it would not withstand the weight. And yes it does say it on the count sheet how it’s supposed to be properly stored. It will say, “Container, Wrapped, or Peel Pack” I hope this info helps out.

So the Certification test, if the questions are all out of the work book, (as some have said) we should be good as long as we memorize all that stuff? Or is there anything we should study outside of the book and work book to cover any questions, I have had surprises on cert tests where some questions didn't seem to be anything I've studied. Are there diagrams on the test? and what would you recommend hitting hard on memorizing ? Thanks.
@2thang24 жыл бұрын
Stacey Lynn honestly the exam is based on the book. So everything you’ve study will be on the exam. As far as surprise questions, well there aren’t any. Majority of them are just common sense questions like, “what do you do when you find a dirty instrument on the clean side?” Just send it back to decon. I’d say study the temperatures and parameters like in decon and assembly. Also study the spaulding classification that’s a big one! Believe me they dinged me for that. There are no diagrams on the exam unless they changed it this year. Other than that I think you should be good. Just keep on studying!

Funny how where I work (ortho mainly, but do other stuff as well) they don't allow count sheets in the set and we don't even have a department computer or printer (in turn, no scanner). Everything is written by hand. i.e industrial heat-resistant sharpie on the sterile tape. Wish it was more updated like this.
@2thang22 жыл бұрын
Oh really? Wow that’s interesting. I was told by my teacher that some hospitals are still not updated like that. We were actually taught to write on the sterile tape. We were taught everything old school just in case we got a job out there that still did it this way lol

why were you placing some turned upside down in the case?

So all of the osteotomes can fit in the tray

No tip protectors on any of the instruments!!!! Wow
@2thang23 жыл бұрын
Our facility doesn’t require tip protectors on this specific set, but usually with sharps you do need tip protectors. Good catch on that!
