They're still a bunch of drunks on a football match If it wasnt this song, they would be just singing another one, but the effect would be the same. I guess the song is not a cause, raher an effect Don't hate my comment please, i also love to get drunk and submerge into the masses from time to time. And sing stuff that gets us together. Take the following link and start at 17:25 for an impressive part of the Riff (it re-emerges again and again, it is the main Riff of the piece); remember, this was composed in 1875 (the concert in the link is from 1985), start at 17:25: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4C3q3adgt2sldE

No no no. She is hot garbage. I will not let her shitty drumming be confused with “raw” or some bs term. Her tempo and lack of independence is so bad that it pulls me out of songs. I’m not a guy who requires all songs to have perfect tempo and be in complex time signatures with tons of flash. I’m aware that quantization and DAW’s killed rock. I know that some slack and feel is what makes rock, rock. But you still have to have some competence on the drum set. She lacked any form of dynamic control and ability to flow with Jack’s vocals and guitars. There are 8 million other drummers that could have played with a heavier less technically focused style that would complement Jack’s vocals and guitar better. Trying to listen to Ball and Biscuit is genuinely painful. Listening to her rush and drag every other measure on a blues riff makes me want to ram my head into a wall. She sucks.

@Gooong3 жыл бұрын
her drumming being bad is what makes the song sound 'alternative' or 'real'. Every time music gets too polished and manufactured sounding like glam rock, people playing badly with originality, like the punk movement, become popular.
@aheinz3083 жыл бұрын
The reason people were giving slack for it wasn't because the music was bad it was because she was going about it all wrong. First of all she was right handed and was trying to play the set like a righty. Second of all she holding sticks with clenched fists which not only will kill the palm of your hand it will also make the drum sound terrible because her clenched fist s prevents her from getting the proper rebound out of the drums. Also when she hits the drums she tends to use her whole arm to do it, which not only terrible for endurance but also terrible for power, articulation and rhythmic precision. When your hitting the drum all the power comes from the wrist, the arms are just the guides. Another thing to note is that when she grips her sticks she always grips it by the bottoms, near the butts of the sticks. You are never supposed to do that because its a fantastic way for you loose your sticks while your playing. Yet despite all that she managed to pull it all off and with a bit of guidance and maybe a couple drum lessons I could see her growing into an incredibly talented drummer.

I was watching a british person react to american sports fans and when they did this chant he said "i didnt know americans knew this chant" and thats when i really realized how much of a phenomenon this song had become. crazy. To me i still just remember this as a decently popular song on the radio one time.

@GREEN GHOST She plays very similarly to Lars Ulrich, the only difference is that Metallica is a band that needs a better drummer. She plays in a way that could cause severe muscle and bone damage, but she doesn't play enough notes for that to be a legitimate concern. If Carter Beauford played with his wrists constantly stressed like she does he would have been forced into retirement by arthritis years ago, she doesn't play with the speed, velocity, or aggression that he plays with, so she likely won't have that problem. She's not good, but she doesn't need to be, because white stripes doesn't need a good drummer. There are so many amazing women drumming out there, she just isn't one of them, same as there being amazing men drumming and Lars not being one of them.
@JKenny445 жыл бұрын
@GREEN GHOST "You don't know her personally... you don't even know what kind of drummer she really is" 😂 Are you trolling? We have ears we don't need to know her life story If anyone is judging her based on the fact that she's a girl it is you. Everyone else here actually comments on the music.

I love Megs drumming. Basic doesn't mean bad. Complexity doesn't always make things better. Her style is straightforward and that's exactly the sound they were going for. Just simple, old fashioned rock. No protools and a bunch of technical stuff. They had that garage band vibe which i love and the simplicity is a huge and fun inspiration to me and many others. It's like going to someones house and watching a couple people fuck around and just have fun.. and they brought that feel to their albums and the stage.

Here in Brazil, is pretty common to sing repeatedly "eu não vou embora" with the chords of Seven Nation Army. Translated, it means "I'm not going to leave", people sing this usually at the end of a game, a show or just something that is too good to end (considering that soccer is a big thing here, these chords being so known is not a surprise)

Middle 8 How about something on the functional/dysfunctional relationship between Pete Doherty and Carl Barat of the Libertines? Middle 8 You should do an analysis on why. Nickelback is mostly hated, but at the same time successful and sell out stadiums. 'Meg White Can't play drums.' 'Ringo Starr can't play drums.' Q1: Are you a drummer? Q2: How would you have played, to make those songs you love, better?
@Rimpianto6 жыл бұрын
Knock Knock? - Who's there? - Meg White's most complex beat To reply to you, Q1 yes Q2 you probably are not a drummer if you ask that question, there are countless way you could improve the drums on this songs, I'll say just the easier to understand, dynamics. Ringo is a different story, if we remove the romantic idea of what he played and who he played with, technically he was an average drummer imho but a drummer and played great with the songs. Meg on the other side is what a year top of drums lessons give to you, she's not even on the scale for professional drummers. Now, the fact that this goes very well with Jack White massive ego (and probably small penis) is another story, he doesn't want anyone to steal the scene, so a mediocre drums is what he wants.
@Chebab-Chebab6 жыл бұрын
I can play drums but I wouldn't call myself a drummer. Meg's style of playing is White Stripes playing. 'Now, the fact that this goes very well with Jack White massive ego (and probably small penis) is another story, he doesn't want anyone to steal the scene, so a mediocre drums is what he wants.' There's no need for name calling and/or insults.
@MarchuxProductions6 жыл бұрын
You don't have to be a professional drummer to see that someone's not actually good at drumming, just like you don't have to be a professional chef to say that a meal is bad.
@Chebab-Chebab6 жыл бұрын
Your comparison is quite good, but flawed. If a chef cooks a meal with an ingredient I don't like, it doesn't matter how well it has been prepared, I still wouldn't like it (I'm thinking of Durian). It doesn't mean that it isn't how it should be. Jack white is the 'chef' of White Stripes, and if he thinks it's fine for WS, then it's how it should be.

@but why She's perfect for the style that the White Stripes set out to achieve. You really think that Jack White, who's the ultimate perfectionist/control freak would pair up with a substandard performer? Simple does not equal bad. Some of the best drummers in the world are those who purposely kept their drumming pared back and simple: Dave Grohl in Nirvana, Ringo Starr, etc.
@ohwellwhateverr5 жыл бұрын
@but why That's laughable. The White Stripes wasn't a charity for bringing in people off the streets Jack felt sorry for. She wasn't interested in being in a band, and *he convinced her to form one with him.* He chose her. He was inspired by her way of playing, and we have Meg White to thank for how the White Stripes turned out. It wouldn't have been the same with any other drummer. Sorry, but you sound like a 13 year old. The idea that musicians have to sound "perfect" was thrown out the window in the punk era, and again in 90s grunge. "Sloppy" playing has its own hidden intricacies and techniques. Humans aren't metronomes or computers, no one has perfect timing.
@lisaanimi5 жыл бұрын
She's a great drummer. People think that throwing fills every minute and banging pedals all the time is skill and think Ringo Starr is a bad drummer while Lars Ulrich is a great one, wrong. Timing is what makes a great drummer. Having constant BPM and rhythm is what rest of the band relies on. There are drummers that can do blast beat in every corner but drummers like meg are few and rare
