To get the creases out of the vinal shower curtain pieces I use an iron on low heat and no steam. I put a paper towel on the vinal and press. Once flat I use it to shape or pour resin. I also made a piece of elastic with velcro on each end so that I can wrap it around the vinal and the item is shaped over to draw it as close to the item as possible. I wrap the elastic around the edges of the vinal near the table and it draws it close to the vase for a tighter finish.

I agree with all the other positive comments written here - everything you make Carmen is just so beautiful and truly elegant, and I love the fact that you use items from around the house or stuff that we can buy anywhere - like the shower curtain and the glass vase to make such beautiful pieces. There's a company here in Australia called 'Dinosaur Designs', which opened about 20 years ago, and everything they sell - from baths and tiles to kitchenware and lovely jewellery is made from epoxy resin, The pieces you make remind me a lot of theirs', except they charge $180 for a simple bangle!!! Anyway, I've never seen one of these videos before, but I'll be watching them all from now on. Keep up the great work, and thanks for the wonderful video. This is the first video in a long time that's actually taught me something useful and inspiring. And now I'm going out to buy a shower curtain! :-)

I have a question about some resin pieces that I have done, mostly the ones I’m referring to are like a disc, in a platter type of resin. I do as you have done wait until it’s not tacky anymore and sometimes I try to make it in to a bowl or I just leave it flat. And what happens afterwards is what I’m concerned about the flat pieces which were easy to take out of the mold because they were firm enough and then I just let it sit fo 48 hours or more, but now my finished pieces were on a table that had sun coming in and when they warmed up in the sun they bent! they’re flexible again, can you help me to figure out what I’ve done wrong? I am really enjoying your video ,it’s really informative and enjoyable to watch! Thank you

I never thought of using resin this way! What about using it for a charcuterie board?
@Artresin6 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yes, resin makes wood charcuterie boards look absolutely gorgeous. Keep in mind, however, that ArtResin is scratch resistant, not scratch proof, so it's best to use resined board for serving and not for cutting food on. If you do happen to get scratches on your resined surface, you can sand the whole thing down and apply a fresh coat, and it will look good as new! Another option is to sand the cured resin surface with a series of coarse-to-fine sandpaper to give the resin a matte finish. The end result looks great on wood boards and the matte finish won't show scuffs as easily as a glossy surface does. Here's a blog and video showing how to get a glossy or matte surface on a charcuterie board: www.artresin.com/blogs/artresin/how-to-make-a-charcuterie-board

I also work with resin. First, i love how your two bowls turned out! Beautiful and exquisite! Second, I never knew that you can shape, stretch and mold resin into just about any shape and form! Wow! I can’t wait to try something like this. I also love the ocean and blues, teals and a touch of purple are my favorite colors too! I’m thinking of after letting the resin sit for 15 minute before pouring, simply pour it over your object you want it to take the form of. Let it stretch down over it naturally since it’s not as cured yet. Does this make sense? I thought it may be easier. I want to try this on a seashell. Thanks for this tutorial!!!
@Artresin5 жыл бұрын
You could try it but since ArtResin is self leveling even with it sitting for a little bit I feel it will still want to run off. This will leave you with not much resin on the top and most of it pooled at the bottom. You could brush it over top in thin coats for it to hold the shape of the 3d object better but this way may take a long time for you to build up a thick enough layer.

Do you need to seal the item after painting the gold around the edges if the item is going to be used for food? How do you clean it? Do you ever use a mold release spray?
@Artresin4 жыл бұрын
Hi Debbie. Great question! ArtResin itself is food safe, if you are concerned that other materials you are using are not food safe, you can simply coat your entire piece with a final coat of ArtResin to be sure. To clean your ArtResined pieces, simply wash them or wipe them as you would glass, using a soft cloth or mild soap and water. We do not use mold release spray as we have found sometimes it can leave a cloudy residue on the surface of the resin. Here is a blog with more information on ArtResin and food safety: www.artresin.com/blogs/artresin/artresin-passes-food-safety-tests?_pos=1&_sid=b3aca5587&_ss=r. I hope this helps 🙂

Love your work carmen just wondered if i could make a serving tray along the same lines as you have done the sculpture just laying it on the plastic and letting it cure on that but would i have to have the resin alot thicker thanks
@Artresin4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sue, You could experiment with doing a free form and doing it in layers. Letting the first layer cure 3-5 hours then pouring another on top to make it thicker. Another idea would be to make some sort of a mold to contain the resin as it will self level to approximately 1/8th of an inch. This would keep the resin contained to the shape you want and allow you to build up layers.

It ended up being such an amazing segment, that after filming we decided we're going to release it as a video on its own, about how to use up leftover resin. However the process is the same just on a much smaller scale, you'll just need tiny bowls or containers to use as the mold. You can use the pearl ink or even just use a little less resin tint, the more you add the deeper the color. Also keep in mind if you are looking for a certain color you can always use acrylic paint to tint as well :)

Hi Margaret, you can use a heat gun, but we recommend a torch as the best tool for the job. Nothing beats the heat from the flame of the torch when it come to popping those bubbles. And the often times a heat gun blows hot air, which can move the resin around your artwork. Hi Gloria :) ArtResin conforms to ASTM D4236, meaning it is certified as safe for home use and non-toxic when used as directed, however there are some safety precautions that every user should follow: Wear gloves. ArtResin is very sticky in its liquid form, so gloves will protect the user from a mess, as well as skin irritation. Clean skin promptly with soap and water if it does come in contact with ArtResin. If ArtResin somehow comes in contact with your eyes, flush with water repeatedly and do not rub. Promptly seek medical attention. Work in a well ventilated area. Wear a respirator if ventilation is poor. What is the alternative for torching? Can i use heat gun?
@Artresin4 жыл бұрын
Hi Shee Chua! YES a torch is the best tool to get rid of bubbles in epoxy resin. There are other methods, including poking with a pin or blowing through a straw, but these are slow and ineffective. A hair dryer or heat gun doesn't get hot enough to remove bubbles efficiently and can blow dust all over your wet resin. A butane or propane torch, on the other hand, is easy to use and provides the heat, control and intensity to remove bubbles for a flawless, pro finish! If you're intimidated by the idea of using a torch ... please don't be. From how to fill them and when to use them, we are going to walk you through everything you need to know about using a torch to eliminate bubbles easily and efficiently. I want to add a layer of semi-pliable resin to a thin metal ring, about 3-4 inches in diameter. Can I dip or brush it on?
@Artresin Жыл бұрын
You can use a brush or foam applicator to apply ArtResin in a thinner layer.

Hi carmen i started to do a resin art i would like to know if after 24 hours do still needs to cover?? And its fine to put the resin beside of heater?.
@Artresin5 жыл бұрын
After 24 hours, the resin will be dry to the touch so you won't need a dust cover at that point - only for the first 24 hours when it's still sticky. You can put the resin in a warm room or near a heater, but I wouldn't put it right beside the heater - you want it to dry with an even amount of heat around it. It may also be too hot right beside a heater.

Great pieces ladies. Very inspirational. I was just wondering what properties resin has after it has completely hardened. Is it dish washer safe, shatter proof, etc? Thank you so much, @ArtResin!
@Artresin4 жыл бұрын
ArtResin is heat resistant to 120 F(50C) and many modern dishwashers have a heat setting that will exceed these temperatures. We like to keep it safe and hand wash. ArtResin is very sturdy but I would not say that it would never crack or chip if dropped. While very unlikely the chance is still there.
