Interesting question that provoked thought. I am almost 62 so in my day, uniqueness was the goal. I felt grown when I developed my own style and was consistent in representing myself that way. I chose to be feminine, independent, classic, elegant, sexy and blackety, black. I remember when I turned 21 and was going out, I rented a car for the weekend. I wore a green and black color blocked dress, black leather blazer, sheer black pantyhose, sexy black heels and my hair was in a cornrow style with back out, think of the Floetry video with Marsha Ambrosia. I was fine. Doing my own thing and no one in the spaces looked like me. I have continued to be uniquely me ever since. And I am a big girl with small girls asking me where I got my outfits. So I guess I knew I was grown when I was confident enough to be uniquely me
