How Ship Hardpoints Work
Your weapon hardpoint can be either fixed
or gimbaled
And are classified by their size and damage type
Sizes range from size 1 up to 6
And even higher in the future
Fixed weapons is a weapon of matching size to the ship hardpoint directly is what we call a Fixed weapon mount, and has the inherent benefit of being capable of using the largest weapon made possible by that hardpoint while contending with limited aiming and a requirement to land their shots more accurately.
So basically fixed aiming means skill to aim and hit on target, where your nose is pointing, the gun will shot.
And gimbaled weapons are an alternative to attaching the maximum sized weapon to your itemport/ hardpoint,
you may choose to use a Gimbal Mount. Gimbals allow players to attach a smaller sized weapon that will enable the user to line their shots up with more ease than a fixed on it’s own.
The Gimbal Mount must be the same size as the hardpoint, but can only support a weapon at least one size smaller due to the space it occupies.
So Seer how do i figure out what size weapon my ship holds???
*You go to your mobiglass and at the bottom you have a ship icon, open this and at the top right select the desired ship, and then at the left select the weapons tab, and hover over the ship slot, it will show you the max hardpoint size allowed*
So how do you change out a weapon to make it gimbaled?
In order to make the hardpoint gimbaled you will need to purchase a gimbal mount and then attach it to the hard point, you can purchase a gimbal at any dumpster depot
once you do this then you can put a weapon on the gimbal.
So remember, take the max size for a hardpoint get the equivalent gimbal size, then step the weapon of choose down a size.
So if your ships maximum weapon hardpoint size is a size 3, get a size 3 gimbal and a size 2 weapon, and it will fit.
Don't be like me when i was new and try to put a size 6 gimbal on a vanguard warden attempting to make a size 5 M7 gimbaled.
So now Why would I fly fixed then Seer gimbals seem to be the bee's knees to me!
Since fixed weapons are one size bigger than the gimbaled weapon you enherat Higher dps,
and for dual joystick users they generally fly fixed as well
How do i change from gimbaled to fixed weapons?
Then remove the gimbal, and place the max size allotted weapon of your choosing in the hardpoint slot and boom you have a fixed gun
Don't forget to save the loadout!
Another reminder, if you have a gimbaled weapon you can press R inflight you can gimbal lock your weapons if you do not want to step up the size of your guns to make it fixed
On the arrow you can make the size 3 turret gimbaled by removing the turret and placing a size 3 gimbal and then a size 2 gun on…. Or a fixed size 3 weapon on top.
Next we have missiles hardpoints
missiles themselves range from sizes 1-4
Sizes 5 and up are then classified as a torpedo
What is the difference between the two?
So, bigger higher damage
How do we fit them?
This is where things can get a little tricky equipping and swapping
Missiles use missile racks… on racks on racks..
To simply explain this
the size of the rack equals one missile of that hardpoint size being attached.
So if you have a size 2 missile rack i can hold a size to missle
To get two missiles attached to that rack, drop the missiles down one size.
So that same rack can hold two size one missiles
To get four missiles attached to the rack, the missiles sizes must drop two sizes.
SO if your ship uses a size 3 missile rack then you can put 4 size one missiles on that rack, or 2 size 2 missiles, and one size 3
And The legendary “Octo” racks mean you must drop the missile sizes down by three. This also means the rack itself must be at least S4
So instead of using a size 4 missile, you can have 8 size one missiles
Reminder
Some ships have individually bespoke racks (e.g. Constellation, Starfarer Gemini, Freelancer MIS) that are modeled directly into their hull. These cannot be exchanged for others.
The only customization possible in these cases is the swapping of the missiles themselves.
Here is a small list of examples, feel free to pause and observe the list if needed
Other than that you can see the max missile rack size in the ship tab in the weapons portion we discussed earlier
You can also now see at the far left the missles on the ship too
All of this can be found at center mass at arcCorp
There was a lot of information covered today but again If the video helpful feel free to like it , and share it with others to get the information out
