Joe root isn't tested yet. SL spinners just bowling on full length and Joe playing on Backfoot. There's no variation. Also field set up is not good. Allowing easy singles and rotate the strike. Ashwin will not allow easy singles. He builds pressure on batsmen with his variations. Off spinner Carrom ball leg break arm ball. He bowls 4 different balls every over. If batsmen try to play on Backfoot he will bowl Carrom ball which turns a bit and miss the bat traps for Lbw or takes the edge to slip or short leg.

I have to agree with some of what Nasser is saying here but I would argue the main issues Sibley and Crawley have had so far is that they play the ball so far in front of their bodies alongside hard hands. As batsman you can get away with this is English conditions were the ball doesn't turn and bounce as much but in Sri Lanka and with India coming up, Sibley and Crawley and all the other batsmen for that matter, should look to play the ball under their eyes and close to their bodies. This is what Root's strength has been in these two big innings he has performed in during the past week.

Excellent analysis of front foot technique, but back foot technique is different. When root goes back to the spinner he gets his front foot right out the way, allowing his bat to come through. Sibley has been out lbw on the back foot, and nearly out several times in the same way, with the ball striking his front pad on the back foot. Sibley appears on the move when the ball hits him, this is due to him not picking the length up quick enough and also not moving his feet quick enough and getting his front foot out the way.

It seems as if they're trying to reach out to the ball based on the line, rather than waiting for the ball to come to them. Another disappointing factor is not using their feet to reach the pitch of the ball. Joe Root who seems to be the only one scoring runs at the moment is also very unidimensional when it comes to playing spin, relying heavily on the sweep and reverse sweep. He does play it really well though, so let's see how he plays in India.

Fantastic analysis , the sad truth is India doesn't prepare such square Turners for its first class games. India does not have much to look for in the spin department beyond Ashwin , Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav. Sadly, with pressure to win overseas , India have transformed more of seam bowling team than a spin focused one. @Saif Ullah Khan absolutely. We are better at spin because we play in spinning conditions more often. Just like the Sena players play in swinging conditions more often than Asian players.

@Saif Ullah Khan ji, you may be right. We play more of spin on spin friendly pitches. I myself played cricket at a decent level. Most of the coaching used to be around playing fast and swing bowling. Somehow I feel Indians are good at picking line, length, pahala dusra teesra chautha of spin right when it leaves the bowler which makes our life easy.
