Hi Gregg, I''m an ex-pro footballer, 40, bad (ACL) knee injury, curently with OA in joint... Been teaching myself OWL (properly) for 4 months, after reading "The Bible" 3rd edition, to get UKSCA accreditation and back-up my knowldge in OWL, and also assessing if it could improve my fitness (pain and performance). Just finishing the Meso-cycle 2 Program Skill Level 2. Body weight 86kg (1m86 long shanks), in training snatch at 65kg, C&J at 70kg. Targeting 70 and 85 respcetively. Prog. SL2 works extremelly well for me with many benefit (ROM, pain, function) and peformance gains. Jerk is weak! In general, pushing is weak to pulling. Started to work on corrective exrcices from the book (all behind head press for timing/position). Overall, I feel battered and bruised but good after day offs. After 8 weeks meso-cycle, my question is: What next? I'm thinking: Week "deload"/technical works with max testing at the end and actual bench marks? Or re-start Mesocycle 1, Or move to Skill level 3? What do you think? Thanks for your work and accomplishment Gregg. Regards.

Hey Greg, if a person is learning/doing weightlifting to support another sport, do you think it's necessary/unnecessary to have the program peak towards one rep max? Is it still a very useful effect or should you instead do like 3 rep max towards the end if you want to see your max number? Since I don't think the sport context has the specificity demand that weightlifting competition would have. But could it also have benefits to peak to one rep max?

I think it depends a lot on the sport and athlete. From a program design perspective, it's very useful to have actual 1RMs, although not strictly necessary. So it would be a matter of determining what created the best result for the athlete - if it's a preseason strength cycle with reduced sport training, peaking for maxes may not be a bad idea; if it's in season training, usually not a good plan.

Hello, I doing the skill level 1 program from your book and was wondering how long each session should take with and without the GPP? Thank you in advance

Just to be sure: In a preparation mesocycle, should intensity rise as volume numbers decline or should intensity remain the same until the end of the mesocycle? For example, squat sets go from 10 reps@50kg, 8 reps@50, 7@50and 5@50? If yes, would one then only increase intensity during competition mesocycles?
@CatalystAthletics2 жыл бұрын
Yes, intensity will increase in all phases, with exceptions of certain exercises like technique primers or similar you may keep the same for a mesocycle or so, and deloading weeks.

Do you find that you have to recycle training if they are not hitting their percentages and readjust their numbers?

You mean repeat an entire cycle? Or a single week or something?

I guess Greg is saying repeat a single week or something.
