Tadeáš Asks: What would you say is the optimal range (% wise) to practice technique in?
Say you have a lifter with decently developed technical skill (good squat/snatch ratio etc) and no specific issues who struggles with consistency at higher percentages. In this case, we are usually told to practice technique more, but how much should the load be lowered for the training to still be productive in this regard?

I’m 64 and only really started Oly lifting 6 years ago absolutely love it, have a really good trainer but I’m constantly being told to only power clean and power snatch if at all. Forms solid, life is good. Is there an expiration date on Oly lifting?

Unless you have some sort of orthopedic issue that squatting would aggravate or would in some way contraindicate it, there's no reason not to do the squat variations as well.

I know this is an old comment, but are you still lifting? I'd love to hear about your experience getting into weightlifting in your 50s!

Thanks once again for more knowledge bombs 🙏 btw- Crossfit can’t take credit for OTM training but I think they can claim the EMOM 😆

The OTM work sounds like the 20/20 workout by Joe Mills. Good stuff. Thanks, Greg.

Yes, that's the source of it to my knowledge. I suspect someone before him or independently of him thought of doing on the minute work, but as far as I know, that's where it really comes from in the US at least.

Hi Greg, you mentioned being "conditioned" for that much work. Of course everyone is different, so there will be some variance, but what might be a good ballpark litmus test for being "conditioned enough," if there is one in your opinion?
@CatalystAthletics
@CatalystAthletics 5 жыл бұрын
The test is whether or not you can do what you're doing productively, i.e. make progress with it. When you start OTM work, I'd suggest working your 15 singles in the 70-76% range, i.e. 70-73-76%, and then very gradually increasing. I've never encountered a lifter who couldn't manage those weights their first time. But you won't be able, without prior training like this, to hit 90% OTM unless you have an inaccurate 1RM (common among absolute beginners and non-WLers).

Hi Greg, can you please tell us about strict press in WL programs? Is it necessary for WL? If yes, how would you program it (vol, int, freq, on snatch day or CJ, beginning or end of session)? Are there better options for a WL ? Thank you!

Hi Greg, I started lifting 3years ago with only some training during lockdown time- in the basement of our church😁.There is concrete flooring there and I got some mats so I can drop the weights, but no platform. Over the last year I developed Achilles- tendinitis in both sides and I suspect the concrete floor, not enough stretching , weightgain and not enough diversity in exercises ( like including excentric calv training) as being the combined causes- have you seen lifters with the same problem? What do you suspect as being the reason? Now I visit a physiotherapist, I work a lot on mobility and „ no foot“ snatches... what would you recommend I do to be able to keep training and still get better? Thanks!!
@CatalystAthletics
@CatalystAthletics 3 жыл бұрын
I doubt it's the floor. More likely your calves are tight and if you're slamming into the bottom of squats/cleans/snatches and maxing out their range, it's going to take its toll. Eccentric calf work will likely help recovery but I've never once prescribed it for a lifter, and have never had this issue - it's not necessary in normal training. See this for ankle mobility and listen to the physio - kzbin.info/www/bejne/mputpJuwbNtroLc

Hey Greg, I haven't seen any content posted on the internet regarding imbalances leading to uneven catch position for the snatch. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
