How should the Oilers manage the salary cap?

Jeff Jackson had quite the day signing and re-signing a number of plays, but with the Oilers currently over the salary cap, the boys consider some options of how to get under the cap floor before Game 1 of the 24/25 regular season.

I'm not gonna throw Kane under the bus with an opinion. He has been so good to us fans and did so much for the team when we needed him the most. I hope he's staying. I agree that he's never been the same since the arm injury and that kind of injury can take a long time to fully heal. I cut a nerve on my thumb when I was a kid and that spot was numb for about 20 yrs. I can't imagine what his injury must feel like.

He may be put on LTIR but I agree with you. I wasn't thrilled when he signed but he proved me wrong. There are other options to trade - McLeod comes to mind.

Doesn't he have to be healthy for day 1 of the season in order to be put on LTIR

@@mithex8414 yes day 1 cap compliant if you want to accrue cap space. If they burry him at the start of the season, for the entire season, they can go over the cap up to his entire salary. if he has surgery it's the later.

It's certainly a option now isn't it. I've noticed some people mentioned the durability of Jeff Skinner & Viktor Arvidson & now depending upon who he (JJ) hires as the next GM & the circumstances that may or may not arise with some of these injury proned players,could we see that this team is now willing to do what the VGK & Mark "Fragile" Stone have done a couple of times now? 😆🤣

trade Ceci and send Joshua Brown to the AHL. Use that money to sign Broberg and Holloway to about 850,000 contracts each. Stecher fills the role of Ceci and find another extra defenseman.

Not in my opinion. You don't want to play Stetcher in the NHL. Ceci is much better than Stetcher.

Josh Brown, Perry and Jeff Skinner bad. Arvidson, Janmark and Henrique good. Losing Foegel is going to hurt a lot but I'm hoping the others can fill that void. Campbell being gone makes everyone feel better. Now, if we can only get rid of Kane and Nurse for something manageable we should be in good business. Kane's 32 is the new 36. So he's not getting any better.

Jeff Skinner for $3m bad?!?! Worst take I've seen today. Half a dozen clubs were fighting Oilers to score that signing. Arvidsson if he stays healthy is an improvement over Foegele. Kane and Nurse aren't going anywhere, but we're already in good business. This team is better than the one that just went to SC finals

​@@feelingaLittleRandy___GreggExcept that Gudas has been on record that he doesn't want to play in a Canadian city because the fans in those markets have unrealistic expectations & therefore implying that they're impatient, intolerant & can become pretty toxic because of that. Edmonton is a prime example how the fanbase can turn on a player & run them out of town. Think Jordan Eberle would want to come back here in a trade even if he was scoring 30 or 40 goals? Nope. He too is on record how bad it got here. It's the Canadian fans unrealistic & untempered expectations that are the catalyst for the toxicity & hostile/ toxic workplace environment that these players are trying to avoid. That with our political policies & the rate of taxation & the pummeling value of the Canadian dollar don't help in attracting or retaining players in this country or our teams markets imo. 😢

@@jonbenjisnomore7935 Excuses. Yes, there are some pretty bad toxic fans. But don't tar and feather all of us. However, they all have or should have money managers to deal with taxes and loopholes and all things financial. And, I believe they all get paid in US $$$. Too many prima donna soft players is the problem who think they're entitled. No one is entitled. Except maybe McDavid.

@@monicaarisman4293 sorry if I wasn't explicitly clear in my meaning as I never meant to imply or paint with the same brush every Oilers fan or NHL Canadian teams fanbases as being toxic, it's rather a sign of the times of people who are the loudest seem to get the most attention & are ahead of the crowd influencing & inciting others to be a part of the swarming effect,mob rules or nowadays the cancel culture. It seems that negative Kevin's & Karen's, Debby & Dougie Downers and Negative Nelly's & Nigels talk the loudest & lead the "let's run them out of town parades" aka the modern day equivalent of the old " pitchforks & tiki torches" etc

@@monicaarisman4293 unfortunately I don't agree with your thinking that McDavid is exempt of the buy in & lead by example No one player is bigger than the team. When Gretzky was sold off traded to LA it was the revamped Edmonton Oilers led by Mark Messier that was able to win another Stanley Cup. Gretzky never did lead another team to one. Entitlement is a nasty selfish spirit ruining individuals & society today imo. Also some markets have a definite advantage because of their dollar aka currencies value & it's buying power then when you have little or no extra or hidden taxes the players dollars go even further. It's a definite advantage that some markets have that even the most excellent of money managers can't find loopholes to overcome ALL the negative effects of our markets have.
