Fun fact: At one time all three killing methods were going to be used in the story, but Disney changed it due to the fact that the Great Depression budget couldn't afford the storytelling. SO, the reason why we got only poisoned apple is because Disney couldn't afford more storytelling. But I think it's for the best because it makes Snow White less dumb.

Dont worry. In some versions the mixed parts you had are right in some versions. The comb and the apple poisoning are also sometimes in other versions. The end of the fairytale with the apple peace falling out, is also in an older version much creepier... The prince takes her to his castle where he is LIVING WITH HER and servants have to carry the dead snow white to the dining room where she sits next to the prince every day. She has to sleep next to him(not ok(hope she sleeps in her coffin(who would sleep next to the weirdo prince ) and has he went hunting on one day(he is sad when he leaves her) a servant was too angry at the prince for letting him carrying a corpse that he PUNCHES SNOW WHITE ON THE BACK! The apple peace falls out, the servant dosent say the prince how she awoke(because shurly he would loose his head) and snow white and the prince marry and live Happily Ever After. (THIS OLDER VERSION IS MORE MESSED UP THEN THE ONE TODAY) Im german so i grew up with those Grimm fairytales.

Here's an Algerian version of Snow White: "Lundja, daughter of Tseriel" Two huntsmen go hunting in the mountains and hit a falcon. One says: "I wish I could marry a girl whose skin is as red and white as the falcon's blood in the snow" the other answers: "There's only one girl like that: Lundja, the daughter of the ogress Tseriel". The huntsman goes to Tseriel's house, where Lundja hides him from her mother. Once night falls, Lundja tells the huntsman to leave, but he asks her to come with him. She FOLLOWS THE MAN SHE ONLY MET THAT AFTERNOON, and the river and thornbushes let them pass because of her politeness, while they scratch and drown the rude Tseriel. But with her last breath the ogress curses her daughter and the huntsman is caught by a giant eagle. Lundja goes to his parents' home, where she finds a black slave, SKINS HER AND WEARS HER SKIN AND CLOTHES TO HIDE IN THE HOUSE (she IS the daughter of an ogress after all). After she and the family concuct a plan to save the huntsman, she reveals herself to him and he marries her, which leaves his relatives surprised he'd choose a black woman (you find a lot of racism in berber tales)

The true villain here is the magical mirror. I hope so.
@Knitboy19974 жыл бұрын
Well, i read a longer version of this fairy tale. There was a girl, whose parents died. She then tried to find her place in the world but she got betrayed seven times by someone else. She prayed to god for justice, but she failed. Then to death and failed again. Then she prayed to devil and he agreeded under one condition. He gave her a magical mirror, that was capable of showing the ugliness of soul. If someone saw, how ugly he is, he would be forced to shrink with shame and mine beautiful gemstones, until their beauty outweighs the ugliness of their soul. What was the condition? She was forced to look in the mirror everyday or she would be sent to hell. During the next seven days she "hunted down" those, who wronged her and she slowly built her way on the throne. She then ruled for seven years, until a king from the next kingdom came and asked her for her hand, as he believed that she was the prettiest of them all. During those seven years, the habit of looking in the mirror changed her. Meaning of ugly changed for her and she was afraid to be ugly, even if it was in comparison to someone. That resulted in her obsession of being the most prettiest of them all. She started to resent beauty of others, especially her step-daughter... but hey, you know the rest :)

The version I heard as a kid was that the entire apple was dipped in poison so the outside was poisonous but the centre was safe to eat. When Snow White questions about wether it’s safe to eat, the queen carves out the apple core and eats from that part, giving snow the rest of the apple which poisons her when she takes a bite. The version from the video makes more sense tho imo

I was lucky enough to grow up reading versions of fairy tales that weren’t Disney. I had a book that had watered-down versions of the stories. For example, Rapunzel was about lettuce and pregnancy cravings and going blind, not painting and lanterns and being the lost princess. The Snow White in the book was pretty similar to the first version you mentioned, except the evil queen dies of… rage? I don’t know what that really means.

You summaries a lot of the different variations of Grim's tale, which is technically an original story from them. Originally, the mother was gonna live and get jealous of her daughter but changed it because it seemed too dark to have a mom try to kill her OWN daughter. There are also alternate versions of how the apple came out: either because a servant drops the case or a servant literally takes the girl out and smacks her back out of anger. Also, there's a version that gets into the creep factors of how he takes the coffin with him almost everywhere.

The part with the rose petals reminded me of the Prince Lindwurm story, which had a similar part where the queen had to eat a special rose so she could conceive a child, specifically either the white or red rose, and ends up eating both like an absolute moron _after she was warned not to do so,_ thus giving birth to a human prince and the lindwurm in question...

I read the version from brothers Grimm, but I also listened to the version where Snow White is the antagonist. She would cause a lot of trouble in the castle and when her new step mother came with a puppy, the servants knew he wouldn’t last long around Snow White. The step mother was kind to her new step daughter, but on the third night of her residence, she woke up to find the head of her puppy in her doorway. She followed the blood trail to her step daughter’s room, where she found the rest of the puppy. She then whispered in her step daughter’s ear “I hope there won’t be a war between us.” Over the years, Snow White was jealous of her step mother having her father’s attention, and would try to make her life miserable. Fed up with it all, the step mother kicked out Snow White. A few months later, Snow White came back all filthy and her hair disheveled, and she brought the seven dwarves with her, whom had sharp teeth. When she was in the castle, she ordered them to kill the guards and her step mother, while she killed her father herself. Years later, she was married to a prince and had a daughter. When her daughter was five, Snow White took her to the famous mirror and said the famous phrase for it. When the mirror said it was her daughter that was the beautiful one, her daughter innocently said “Wow. I’m more pretty than mommy?” And her mother, with tears in her eyes, whistled for the dwarves, whom were the castle guards, to kill her daughter. And that’s the end.😕

One Snow White version I recall is a fairly recent one (came out in the 2000s). In that one Snow White is a lot smarter and doesn't let the Evil Queen in, who is in disguise of her mother in this one. Instead the queen actually 'lets herself in' because the door was hidden and locked but the Evil Queen hypnotises one of the dwarfs into giving her the key. She told Snow White that she ran into the 'little men' and that she would check up on Snow White and kind of 'enthralls' Snow White into eating the apple. She does use the 'half/half' method with the apple, one side being fine and the other half being poison too. So for me this version had the 'smartest' Snow White for sure.

In the story called The Snake Prince, an old woman found a snake inside her pot by the river. Instead of freaking out, she sees this as an opportunity for her die because she is old and has lived long enough plus she is alone. She close the pot with the snake inside and bring it home. When open, the snake was replaced by a necklace. The old lady bring that necklace to the King and the King gave that necklace to his Queen to cheer her up because the Queen was sad about not having a child. Queen cheer up a little and put the necklace inside her jewelery box for safe keeping. Next day, she open the box, wanting to see the necklace, but instead a baby boy was found inside the box. The royals adopted the baby and raised him. The boy grew to be a wise and beautiful young man whom all the people of the kingdom adored. Later, the King and Queen arranged him to be marry to a princess in the neighboring kingdom. Before the marriage, a rumor was spread around the palace about magic being involve the Prince's birth. The old woman from the start of the story was the one who started the rumor because she is the Prince's nanny and due to her position she brags about it out of vanity. The Princess caught wind of the rumor and want to know if it's true. After the marriage, the Prince treats her right but the Princess didn't speak a word to him for an amount of time until she asks him about his birth. Prince don't want to tell her and warns her that if he speaks of his birth then she will regret it. The Princess didnt head his word and remain silent. This went on for months until the Prince gave in. The two young royals used their horses to travel out to a forest by the river, not far from the palace, and stop there. Again Prince tells her one last time if she really want to know the truth to his birth because if he did she would regret it. Princess didn't head his word and was driven by curiosity. Prince tells her the truth. He is a prince from another country whom was curse to be a snake. After that he turn into a snake and sliver away. Princess calls back to him but he was gone. She search for him, scratches her feet while doing so. The King and Queen was told what happen from the Princess. Princess grieve for him. So much that she had a black castle made by the river incase he returns and she wore black clothes. Guards was ser up to block anyone from visiting her. This went on for years until one day she noticed a mud trail on her bed. No one came inside the palace, the guard said when she question him if anyone came to her room. One night, Princess stayed up all night to see whom came into her room. She used a knife to prick herself to stay awake. At midnight, a snake came into her room. Who are you and what do you want, she asked. The snake respond at he is her husband. Princess was happy to see him and begs for him to come back. Seeing how sorry she is for not listening to him, he sadly can't come back for he is under the Snake Queen's hold. There is a way for him to be free but Princess must be brave. Princess have to place some bowls of milk and honey in the room and a group of snakes with the Snake Queen leading them will arrive at the front door. Princess must stand before the Queen and beg for her husband back. No matter what she must be brave, to not run away. After that night, Princess did everything he said and sees the group of snakes and their Queen come to the palace front. Princess didn't run despite being frighten. She begged for her husband. Queen moves closer to her until her eyes stared directly at Princess and their faces are close to each other. Princes begged again and this time Queen said that her husband will return to her tomorrow. Princess fainted after that. Next day, she decorated the palace and put on beautiful clothes. Princes came back as a human, King and Queen are happy, the old woman is no long in charge of the Prince's care but still love him as if he is her own, and the Prince and Princess rule the kingdom together happily. I found this story on accident when searching for stories about snakes in mythology and other forms. There is so far two different interpretations of the Snake Prince. One in a young adult and another in a silent film. Both can be found my playlist titled Fairytales if you are interested. I've always wonder if there was a snake story where they aren't on the side of evil.

I absolutely love your thumbnails! And of course your animation! But one thing I think would be amazing for you to do is voice over work 😍 your voice is soft yet expressive, I love listening to these grim stories from you!

I just realized that have the grim stories in a book. The book I have is called ‘My Treasury of Bedtime Tales’, there’s Puss in the Boots, The Little Mermaid, The Valiant Tailor, Aladdin, Tom Thumb, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Musicians of Bremen, and Beauty and the Beast.

Some of them aren't Grimm though. But that ain't unusual.

It's really weird how for both Snow White and Rapunzel I've read/heard the "creepy" versions and not the Disney ones as a kid but never thought they were creepy? Not until I started watching your videos I realized how creepy they were and wondered how 6 year old me wasn't scared! It's super weird

It’s awesome to hear these original stories, because I was a huge fan of the mini series “the tenth kingdom” growing up and they referenced this version. It’s so cool to find out that it’s real.

Someone made a theory that in the Disney movie, Snow White, and the prince had already met before the movie and the reason she runs inside the castle is because she knows her stepmother is watching. I honestly like to believe that, because it makes everything less weird.

Grimms' queen's disguises remind me of the Pennywise meme : "Hey kid, I've got (fill in hearts desire like *HP Maurauder's Tale*)" Kid: "Okay!" *slips down street drain*

the princess and the prince actually died in the disney snow white version :my theory: The prince actually died in the movie because of lack of dehydration.. how? well you see the queen was never worried about how the spell breaks in the book as if the prince was taken care of already/ back then the way u had to get water was from the wishing well. The prince was captured and kept there until he died. It is seen when she is ready to go to the boat she talks to the skeleton "thirsty huh?" that's the prince's corpse/. Snow white died from lack of air. seeing her coffin was made of glass. "she was in sleeping death" it is proven that humans can only live for 5 hours in a glass coffin before dying. They open her coffin when the prince comes. but it is seen that she's been in there for months. even the cards have the background of the season changing and it changed to spring to winter (etc) and notice how they say "in her death" not sleeping death. proving that snow white and the prince died and their souls lived in heaven.

Here a lesson with Grim tale:be sure if that person is really really trustworthy, otherwise you end up like Snow White when she eat the apple. Overall fantastic video. I grew up with Snow White as a child and seing the difference between Disney, Grim and Basile is so amazing (expecely the last one. It is beautiful one). Looking forward to next tale. 😉

Man you put so much effort into these videos, it's really admirable!! and the way you got the subtle overlay texture, and then the moving foreground vines is really smart for sustaining attention for all the monkey viewers :p I gotta take some notes! hahaha
