The Tigray War (2020-2022) in Ethiopia was one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history. Over half a million people lost their lives amid an onslaught of shocking violence.
Social media was deployed as a weapon and played a significant role in the conflict. Footage of rape and mass shootings was used to both traumatize and dehumanize the other side. Facebook has been accused of stoking ethnic tensions in the country, while countless hate posts remain online. Do the platform’s owners value profit and market power above the lives of human beings? How could the social network that promised people an open and interconnected world become a weapon used by warmongers and perpetrators?

If you are being honest, you know given the relativly small size of Tigray, the internet shut down, the violent and hateful speech by Tigrayans against others was dwarfed compared to the other groups against Tigrayans. . I’m sure it happened. And yes tplf did commit atrocities. But see you just want to distract from the issue here which is the role of face book. Your reflexive ‘what about my tribe’ attitude is why Ethiopia is a war ravaged beggar nation.

Please make these corrections : 4:44 The war DO NOT begun because of sending Ethiopian army to Tigray . Rather the war broke out due to warmongering mafias of TPLF leaders . That is FACT !!! The mafias miscalculated or didn't anticipate the consequences. They gambled by the life of innocent Tigray people. 5:05 Mr Fisseha Tekle ( Human Rights Observer from Amnesty International) mentioned the Mykadra massacre as if only one ethnic group has been targeted. That is absolutely wrong. Multiple sources confirmed that TFLP affiliated groups attacked the other ethnic groups in horrible ways. That tragic incident was definitely organized by TPLF . 5:59 The Ethiopian government was responsible to defend & protect the sovereignty of the country. Those warmongers of TPLF have been called out JUNTA because they attacked the Ethiopian army base in Tigray. They killed hundreds of Ethiopian soldiers . That is why they (TPLF warmongers) have been called Junta.... and have been considered as Cancer for the rest of Ethiopia's people including the innocent Tigray people. To my knowledge nobody called Tigray people cancer or junta. Twisted ideas will never get us to the truth! 6:14 The journalist said that Chief among the agitators was PM Abey Ahmad but the PM has inherited a very fragile country ruled by ethnic federalism for more than two decades . True that he used the negatives of TPLF to mobilize the people of Ethiopia against the warmongers of TPLF mafias but not against the people of Tigray. Forget not that the architect of such backward ruling system was TPLF. They just used such divisive ethnic federalism till the wave takes them away for good. Honestly the newly appointed PM has faced the worst case scenario to run a country. 6:19 The PM has never called Tigray people as cancer of Ethiopia. As I tried to explain it earlier, he coined that term for the warmongers of TPLF mafias. Please don't propagate false claims ! We all know what you are trying to bring back in Ethiopia. Ethiopia will never & ever fall under your propaganda. WE KNOW THE AGENDA!!! 14:00 You showed a journalist working for ESAT claiming as if it represents the views of Amhara people. Completely wrong! It becomes more clear that DW is working under the shadow to incite ethnic violence amongst Tigray and Amhara people . Everyone knows that you don't really care for bloodshed in Africa as long as you profit out of it. Shame on you again!

The war began when the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front (TPLF), the regional government of Tigray, attacked the northern command of the army. The Tigrayans have suffered greatly in this war, enduring many atrocities. However, a proper and balanced presentation is essential. Please also report on what the Tigrayan forces did in the Amhara and Afar regions properly. I expected more from the DW documentary. Instead, they distorted the facts, reducing complex statements to single words, and misrepresented comments about the TPLF as being about the Tigrayan people. Presenting the Mai Kadra massacre as perpetrated on Tigrayans is shameful. In reality, it was the Amhara who were massacred there. Such a biased portrayal of the war is disappointing. If you misrepresent what I know, how can I trust the other documentaries you publish on topics I am not familiar with?

This documentary focuses on the genocide in Tigray. Reports of atrocities in Amhara lack the same level of credibility due to the division among the Amhara people, with some supporting militias like Fano and other unnamed groups, and others backing the government. Journalists reporting on the Tigray atrocities have faced harassment from the Amhara diaspora, particularly in the United States and Europe, being labeled as paid propagandists and accused of spreading false information. This harassment has included the "No More" movement, where Amhara supporters displayed posters accusing news agencies of "fake news." Given this hostile environment, it is understandable why these journalists, some of whom have had their reputations tarnished, might be reluctant to cover atrocities in Amhara committed by the very government that many in the Amhara community support. While the horrific events in Amhara are still being reported, they may not receive the level of coverage some desire. Demanding an end to "fake news" and questioning the integrity of news agencies? Here is your answer. For the narrative you seek, you may refer to sources like Borkena. May peace be upon Ethiopia.

Yet, I haven’t seen any content moderation of Tigrayan activists, warmongers, & fighters comment on Afar & Amhara people. This documentary’s content needs its own moderation. What’s the objective? Why do one group victims require this much attention while disowning others? Is the goal to heal the wounds in the post-war period or to keep feeding the beast for another round?

The hatred existed on both sides. In war, hate is commonplace as both sides were literally killing each other. This documentary fails to depict the actions of the Tigray side, who were instigating the conflict long before it began. They also dehumanize an entire ethnic group, particularly the Amharas, by calling them 'adgi' (donkey). Even in this documentary, a man named Fisseha lied about the massacre in Maicadra, claiming only 200 people were killed when, in fact, the number was in the thousands, and the victims were all innocent Amharas. Even the president of Tigray at that time admitted to the incident, so I suppose this documentary is influenced by Tigrayans working at DW. No wonder it's biased.

Shame on DW spreading the same propaganda TPLF used. All the clips shown are complete taken out of context. Clips of a long video. All references of “they” are NOT the Tigray people in general as it is portrayed here. All government and private citizens used “they” or “junta” in reference of TPLF. Now DW is being used by TPLF. Just a couple of days ago the head of TPLF interviewed on a French media and said he doesn’t believe there was any genocide or intent but here DW is spreading unfortunately to instigate hatred among Ethiopians.

Am I watching Dimtse Woyane or Deutch Welle, Your partial journalism intentionaly missed/couldn't show the other side of the story. We as Ethiopian see your documentary as incomplete and one eyed. As the true cause of war was regarding the issues of status - quo among the TPLF and PP(which is EPRDF-TPLF). After a series of tit for tats, the leaders of both incompetent parties made the elit war to public one. The war mongering rethoric was coming from both side. The TPLFits call the PM Fasist, He called them The Greedy Junta. Not only Facebook but also KZbin & Twitter monetioned this bloody incedent as usual. That is what it was. Most notably TPLFits diaspora Activists was beyond humanity, i.e they have been sadly bragging by saying, "War is the traditional dance of Tigrai people" gor your surprise, They say this not from within the war front, rather from the safe distance in US and Europe sitting in the Starbucks.... Finally, I feel sad for the innocent people of Ethiopians who lost their life for the sake of drank ethnic politicians luxurious way if life and status quo.

This is an immoral attempt by the West to falsely blame the Ethiopian government for the crimes committed in Tigray, Amhara and Afar. The hatred, hostility and brutal massacre were instigated by the TPLF in Tigray. They massacred thousands of Ethiopian soldiers in cold blood while they were sleeping in their camps through what they called blitz attacks. The rest of Ethiopia and the government merely defended the brutal attackers. In fact, the TPLF is the bitter enemy of Ethiopians. This video distorts the true reality and its intention is to paralyze and isolate the emerging Ethiopia from the international community and falsely blame the democratically elected government of Ethiopia.

As a person who had been closely watching the northern Ethiopian war social media was a catalyst for the hatred that both parties possess. But this report is absolutely biased and doesn’t even mentioned the pre war arguments, the stories of the other party and even the mentioned narratives clashes with the headline. I am definitely sure that this is also part of the social media propaganda of the post war scenario. One thing is clear should be promoted both sides committed atrocities, both sides galvanized hatred, both sides should forgive each other.

@@edentesfaye6195 what’s the lie ? Can you mention any places where this report incorporate the voice of victims of sexual abuse and victims of mass killings in Amhara side ? Or you are denying the fact that TPLF soldiers had committed atrocities against Amhara people in Wollo, Shewa and Gonder ? I am sure you won’t deny that fact, but you don’t want to accept it as a fact. I know that there are some peoples who think that all the atrocities on both sides are just as propaganda. I think this is not the time to compare atrocities and focus on galvanizing once own wound rather it’s time to heal the wounds that both sides possess. More than 1000 of women’s were raped on both sides, probably 100 thousands of people died on both sides.. .. both sides robbed public and private properties, the morn is evrywh , and the healing process would take a lot but it starts from being empathetic… accepting others truth and giving a respect and condolences for that.

While appreciating the documentary in terms of presenting the Tigrayan perspective but it’s fails to give context, a lot of the hatred was directed towards TPLF who had immense military power and their domination of the country for over two decades have built deep hatred from the rest of the population hence when the war broke out, it was easy for the government and activists to exploit the deep rooted hatred. I do however concur that social media played a big part and very toxic and hope this will be a learning lesson for everyone
