I see a lot of people on tiktok who've begun tracing AI and just coloring it in and it's always super obvious that it's AI since a lot of parts don't make sense (at least to an artist it's obvious), but whenever someone points it out the poster is still able to provide "proof" that it's not AI and they face no consequences.

Hint: you can always spot a tracer by finding painfully obvious wiggly lines and lazy coloring. Take Lunar the Neko (sorry if you see this,) as an example. She clearly traces Sashley. Sashley uses gradients, shading, sparkles, etc for coloring and smooth lines, while Lunar sometimes has wiggly outlines and no sort of effort for shading or detail.

There are also times that some people tried tracing to study an artstyle (like me when I was 10 or something) then when they get used to drawing they'll eventually no longer trace it, and add their personal details that was not in the drawing. You're correct though, although it might be a coincidence sometimes

@@colddayys I've seen a bunch of AI tracers and they're VERY bad at hiding the fact that it's AI, if you're used to seeing AI generated pictures then you'll have no problem with spotting that it's AI, much less harder if the tracer isn't a professional

Honestly, tracing is fine as long as you give credits+ it's a base :) one of my friend just traces ai art for reference and changes some things and does the rest herself, it improves her creativity and gives her more practice so i suggest that if you're a beginner!

Lol I did the same thing. Although a bit differently. I used to have a tablet. I always sketched the thing on paper because it’s easier for me, then I make a photo of it and traced it on my old tablet to color it in digitally. I also would correct any mistakes I noticed in my sketch. I eventually learned how to sketch on a tablet, but I can’t do that anymore since I have no tablet anymore. So I took it to another level. I wanted to recolor the finished drawing years later to recolor it, however because I didn’t have a tablet anymore I had to use my phone and sketching on that is terrible I had to trace it again since I couldn’t sketch on the phone. So I took the drawing I had made years ago and traced it. I traced my own lineart when I wanted to make a recolor of that old drawing I had made. I was happy with the lineart and was too lazy to just redraw the whole thing on paper because all I wanted to do was recolor it. So I just took my old drawing, traced the lineart and colored it. Got called out for tracing because I showed the process. If I traced someone else’s art why would I show me tracing it? I ended up adding the original video of me drawing the original thing years ago at the end. As well as showing videos of me drawing other things since back then I never filmed the process of sketching it. I just had the video of me coloring it on the tablet.

Bro, this is actually pretty accurate. When I was a kid, I usually drew bases on an app that is now deleted on my cellphone. When I posted it in my social media, someone did this, and because of that one year later when I managed to realize I had my own style and all that, I was afraid of showing my art to others because of those type of comments.....now I've grown up enough to see that every person (that draws or not) with or without some braincells, can do this. Don't ever say someone is tracing nor copying without using Google Lens first. (Or another tool you know to know it's not their art). This can manage to make a child that is actually very happy and proud of their drawing to give up on their dream to become an artist. I almost did too. Also, look if there are signs that this person is a child or if it's a real grown up person that knows that tracing is bad but is doing it anyways. Just letting ppl know like the pinned comment this isn't any good. (Also, if you encounter a kid posting these kind of things, and imagine their age around 8 or 10 years old, you CAN actually tell them that they can copy to learn how to draw, but that they can also do their own artworks to manage finding a style. Reminder that on procreate, you are able to “import a private image/file”. Private images/files dont show up in the timelapse, so a tracer could get away with it by doing this and showing the timelapse as “proof”
