I think streaming services will start releasing episodes weekly which will then push viewers to maintain their membership out of fear of being spoiled + keeping up with the hype. One thing that people miss out on is that streaming services all competing with eachother is actually pretty good for consumer. People are hyperfocused on the fact that no one streaming service has literally everything, but from my perspective as long as everything is on a streaming service, I can just change which one I subscribe to, month by month. If I want to watch a complete TV show back in the day id have to spend insane amounts of box sets. Now I can subscribe to a streaming service for a few months and watch the whole thing and almost everything is on something
@judahherod78672 жыл бұрын
I agree, but I think we're inevitably heading back to cable at a certain point. Not everyone can be profitable off of their original content and library alone, so we'll probably in a few years see somebody do some sort of bundle deal across different streaming services, and bada bing bada boom we're essentially back to cable.
@funkahontas2 жыл бұрын
@@judahherod7867 People have been saying that since netflix sold dvds, stop with the " and we'll be right back to cable !!!!" because afaik, cable doesn't have on demand streaming, which is like the main difference lol, also how would that work? Would streaming companies allow a third party to agreggate THEIR content?
@judahherod78672 жыл бұрын
@@funkahontas Obviously it isn't exactly the same as cable, but it's the same idea. Instead of paying separately for a bunch of different channels, you pay a flat fee for a package of them. This is just changed where instead of paying for their broadcasts, you're instead paying for libraries. And obviously they wouldn't do it right now, or even in the next few years. But there's no way everybody 'wins' in this scenario, and it's not hard to imagine them teaming up to try and take down whoever the big boys are.

Sony has a streaming service in India called Sony Liv because they have their channels on cable so they offer the content on those channels plus some streaming exclusive content as well. They also have the Shark Tank India which was immensely popular here Also , before anyone could do anything they basically acquired the Netflix in anime streaming. The difference is revenue sources. Disney, Paramount, WBD and NBCUniversal all have loads of US cable channels that for years brought in massive amounts of both advertising and affiliate fee revenue. That revenue is disappearing both from cable cutting (not a big problem), attrition (older customers passing away) and first home buyers not signing up for paid TV in the first place (a massive problem). The push for streaming services is to try and replace that decreasing cable TV revenue. Sony on the other hand while a film production, distribution and TV production company like the other 4 never had any significant TV distribution in the US so revenue from US TV channels which are a massive market due to the less regulated advertising and affiliate fee markets in the USA isn't something they need to replace. Non US TV channels are basically irrelevant compared to the US market.
