One of the best SpaceX content creators out there. @@stubee2011 I have always been a proponent of the "do it right the first time" mentality, and NASA has certainly taken that approach, because they can't afford to fail. They took years and billions of dollars to construct the Florida launch complex used by Apollo, and it has clearly held up well to this day, being used by the Space Shuttle program, the new Space Launch System, and even SpaceX itself for the launch of its Falcon rockets. However, I have been willing to give SpaceX the benefit of the doubt regarding their less-than-robust launch pad configuration, since they have a completely different approach to project development. Instead of spending a decade working everything out perfectly before hand, SpaceX prefers to iterate frequently on its designs, learning from every attempt and making changes on the fly. This is a perfectly valid approach, as long as money is saved in the long run. However, SpaceX at this point has spent so much time and money on the development of Starship and its launchpad that it often seems like the only thing making it less expensive than NASA's more methodical and robust approach is the fact that Starship will hopefully be fully reusable. I can understand people's frustration with SpaceX not "doing it right the first time," but to be completely fair, Starship is the largest and most powerful rocket ever flown. Even NASA's current launch complex wouldn't be able to handle it. So trying a completely new approach may actually make sense, especially when you factor in the plan to build dozens or even hundreds of Starship launchpads worldwide and on Mars. A traditional launchpad may be the best solution for a single location, but can't be quickly or affordably replicated worldwide. So maybe SpaceX is actually thinking a lot further into the future than we are giving them credit for.

Zac, the friction of re-entry isn’t what creates the majority of the heat. It is actually the compressive effect of such high entry speeds on the atmosphere.

You do realize the only real difference between throwing shit at the wall and iterative engineering that gets shit done fast is simply competence/results right? The first space programs followed a very similar development cycle to what SpaceX is doing today rather than the bureaucratic inefficiency and distributed responsibility where nobody is really in command of the organization that Boeing et al do today.

I'm pretty certain that the odd elbow coming off the bottom of the big deluge manifold is what we call a "low point drain". I designed many piping systems with low-point drains and high-point vents to facilitate draining the systems for maintenance and refilling them safely and completely with no air pockets.

Very clear voice and excellent enunciation, which makes it easier to better understand/comprehend the complex concepts. This is important because my 80 year-old ears have lost part of their higher frequency sensitivity, resulting in increased difficulty converting word streams into meaningful and mentally absorbable phrases. The inability to comprehend in real time either means rewinding and repeating one or more times or falling behind and missing important information or simply giving up. None of these problems have occurred with your excellent videos.

OMG!!!!! There is a poor black crow flying under the launch platform at 36:10 and is turned into feathers and crow pancake by 36:14. He picked the wrong time to fly around the worksite looking for half eaten sandwiches or other treats on the ground. Cooling the engine exhaust and sound energy dampening will convert a portion of the deluge water into steam. It would be interesting to calculate that water which would not end up in the retention pond.
