Even SNL was falling apart in 1980 once the original cast from 1975 to 1979 mostly all moved on like Belushi, Bill Murray etc. Eddie Murphy came along and saved the show himself for the most part before he left for his own career. It happened again in 1990s when Chris Rock, Phil Hartman and others left and Farley and Sandler being fired from the show but went on to become big stars. The deaths of Hartman and Farley affected fans then and felt the show wasn’t the same even when Jimmy Fallon, Will Ferrell and others came along. I am a 90s kid and remember watching Farley, Sandler, Rock, Spade, Hartman and others well.
