@@TheSeptacle They are actually. Iceman goes all the way back to X-Men #1 as one of the original team members and has been a mainstay ever since. Bobby was in the movies if that helps. He was the guy with ice powers that was Rogue's love interest in the first three movies. Firestar's a bit more complicated. She was an original character created for the cartoon, but she had a backstory that she was from the X-Men. She was later added to the team in the comics and has been an on-and-off member of the team for about 40 years now. Think of it like Harley Quinn starting in Batman: The Animated Series and migrating over to the comics. But, the two of them together with Spider-Man is definitely a reference to the cartoon.

In truth though, the idea of self sustaining fusion is just silly. The sun can only do it because of it's immense mass. Doing it on earth is incredibly difficult to maintain and would be easy to kill.
