Quite possibly. It's very similar to Vicky Verky in its structure and its storytelling. Squeeze recorded so many brilliant songs. Who can say which is the best?!

It's certainly a bloody brilliant piece of songwriting, but I think 'Pulling Mussels' is possibly even greater. Great video, Mongoose - I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Great video, great song. A massive UK hit was a non-charting single in the U.S. Difford/Tilbrook are right up there with the most brilliant songwriting tandems ever and they did it creating their own unique style. No other songwriting team ever wrote a song like "Up The Junction".

That song is such a kitchen sink drama that they shot the video in the kitchen too. Brilliant track.

One of England's BEST songwriters/bands. STILL sounds fresh. Beautiful.

Superb! I was brought up in south London, just three miles from Clapham Common, so it really resonated with me at the time. I saw them recently in Seattle and they were seriously wonderful! Thank you Chris and Glenn for years and years of enjoyment.

It’s cool to see the younger Tilbrook brother doing a You Tube vidéo on his older brother’s song

Saw them recently and they were absolutely great. And for this one, when it started everyone had their phones out (say what you like about that particular trend but i think it shows its the song everyone is waiting for)

A timeless classic. I miss this genre of song. Storytelling with guitars in 3 minutes. Not many "story songs" can live with it. The Jam's tube station is one.

Saw Glen once on a solo tour in Derby. Utterly brilliant so get out and see him if you can.

There’s a line in a squeeze song Peyton place “ from a fly in her ointment to a big feather in her cap “ . Taken from Alan Bennett’s Talking heads book . On meeting Difford , I mentioned this to him and he just stared at me without saying anything . Love squeeze ❤️

This song doesn’t need to be covered. It is literally perfect as it is. Anyone covering it isn’t trying to respect it, they just they were Squeeze.

All the Beatles songs are the real deal , Squeeze hit on it a couple of times for sure 🙂
Rare, sure. But I'm surprised Rat Trap overlooked in this genre.

a very good song. but i think best done version i've heard of it was done by the bad shepherds. really brings out the english folkiness of it

Still living off something from the stone age, just like Sting. Why does the ability to write songs seem to be such a finite resource?
@GodfreyTempletonАй бұрын
I went to a Squeeze concert in Birmingham in the eighties. It was rubbish, music was tamely delivered, Jools Holland took the mike and droned on for what seemed an eternity, it ruined my appreciation of the band.

Ah. That’s a shame!

@@MusicMongoose Indeed it is a shame, I lost my respect for Squeeze. You can't buy respect.
@timrose9175Ай бұрын
@@GodfreyTempleton I've been a huge fan of Squeeze since I first heard Cool for Cats in the early 80's and bought all the CD's from the first up to Frank in the late 80's. 88 I I think. Went to three concerts over those years and one club show in 1999. The club show was in Frederick, Maryland and I was so excited to see them up close! Was in front of Glenn and was leaning on the stage looking up at him. That was awesome and a roadie gave my new girlfriend Sara their set list on the stage floor in front of Glenn when it was over. The only other band I saw so close was the Wings Over America tour in 1977 with my favorite Beatle, Paul. General admission and only $15.00 a ticket!! The sad part of the Squeeze club show was that there were no more than maybe 100 people in the audience. What a slap in the face. I felt so bad for them. Chris had more than his usual scowl on his face that I'm pretty sure was because of that. Of all their great songs I'd say Vanity Fair is my favorite. "She comes home late with another screw loose, she claims to have had just a pineapple juice". Love that band and always will.
