Siddhant Gaur Except that you could easily send a computer-controlled ship to do all the cruising through space, and when it finds something that merits a little boldly going you could just beam directly to it from Earth. Ironically, Roddenberry had toyed with the idea of no starships, just beaming to new worlds, as a possible concept for TNG. But it was decided that the Enterprise was as much of a "character" as the cast.

To be fair the Enterprise crew didn't immediately recognise Khan either in the "Space Seed" episode of the Original Series. It was only after Spock gave them the briefing on Khan Noonian Singh that they knew who he really was.

Ugh, so tired of that argument. So he has a transporter... they would still need to research and discover planets before using a transporter. You can't just beam to the middle of space or to some unexplored region. You'd need Star Fleet to discover it first and research what the planet is like.

Considering modern technology allows us to see quite far into space already and discover planets and even exo-planets many light years away, the argument is valid. All you gotta do is update our current tech by about 200 years. The transporters in Into Darkness are faster than any starship at warp speeds, generally it would take days for a Federation ship to go from Earth to Qo'nos yet the transporter did it within seconds. Just gotta face it you can't beat this argument no matter how much a Star Trek fan someone is. The only thing Starfleet would be kept for at that point is Military/Defense force reasons.

Augments have 50 percent enhanced lung capacity and twice as powerful heart muscles, and five times the strength of a human, at least in the unaltered timeline, but I do believe he was mostly referring to the fact they were all still cryogenically frozen. I like that at least they kept Khan pretty much the same as in TOS. Strong, regenerative, highly resistent to phaser fire, delusions of grandeur.

The first time my fsmily saw Into Darkness, and they showed the people in cryogenic stasis, I leaned over to my father, and whispered, "I bet its Khan". 10 seconds later Harrison revealed himself to be Khan, and my father, a Star Trek fan, was completely surprised, and gave me a proud smirk. ...he didn't know I wasn't referring to Harrison, but the person the first discovered in the "missiles"

Yes, while the story about Khan and the Admiral was new, the thing that pissed us off was that throughout the filming of Into Darkness Abrams kept telling us that the villain wasn't Khan, that he was a new original villain. He basically lied to us and stole so much from Wrath of Khan that what was supposed to be an original story was just a rebooting for the second film of the original film franchise. Had the story been that John Harrison went rogue from section 31 and was trying to expose the corruption and warmongering brewing within the shadow organization that would have been a better storyline then the lazy approach he took.

Revkor I agree, the problem is that fans want Star TREK or the studios want Star WARS. Make it flashy, noisy, and full of sex appeal. Like Avengers, but in space, with ships. This is what the studios want. They want to rake in cash not give fans what they want.

lol! Into Darkness is a good example of writers not thinking thoroughly of the consequences of their actions. I mean why starships when you have a transporter that can take you countless lightyears away? Even if not for exploration, the military implications would cause a huge problem as Klingons and Romulans would be trying to get their hands on this device and beam special op squads into Star Fleet not that anyone would die thanks to Khan's super blood. Why unfreeze a guy 300 years old to design weapons anyway? That's like unfreezing Napoleon to design tanks and fighter jets. Sure he's smart but.... come on! Stop shoehorning pointless characters in for the sake of name recognition!

Transwarp beaming was introduced in TNG, I don't think the Federation would use a cure derived from genetic Engineering for wide-spread usage. Khan is genetically engineered to be a warrior so giving him an overview of 23rd technology would provide him a basis to use his superior intellect to design better weapons.

Cordell Chavis TNG takes place almost a hundred years after Into Darkeness. Why not use his blood since it worked for someone who should have died from massive amounts of radiation? See my Napoleon comment. The reason for unfreezing him was weak sauce. They just wanted to shoehorn in Khan for name recognition not to make for a better story that made sense

Ronin Dave The transwarp beaming would be a game-changer, yes - the error will be demonstrated not by its use this film but in somehow forgetting all about it in the films to come. Khan's super-warrior intellect would allow him to quickly get the measure of new technologies and think of ways to improve them and their usage. Your Napoleon analogy really sucks - Napoleon was not an engineer so I wouldn't expect him to build a better anything but his great skill as a military commander would be of value whatever the technology level. Please Santa bring me a shoehorn.

Twirlyhead an engineer 300 years behind the times no matter his genius is still 300 years behind and it makes little sense for MArcus to have awakened him except as a flimsy excuse to shoehorn Khan into the film.
