My working theory is she is was a Kathleen Kennedy insert. As in, she was put in as a kind of tribute to her leadership style. I can imagine that she’d be the type of leader who deliberately withheld information about ‘the bigger picture’ and would get angry that anyone dare question her authority or expertise. And maybe that’s why she says she likes Poe despite treating him...not well. So the inclusion of a character that the audience is so critical of probably didn’t wind up being the best way to ‘honor’ Kennedy. Or maybe it was. Who knows.

The reason so many resistance died in the shuttles is because Poe discovered what Holdo was trying to keep secret, that they were fueling up the transports. Given the First Order was suddenly able to track their ships through hyperspace, perhaps she thought maybe there was a spy on board and thus wanted to keep her plan close to the vest because if the First Order knew to scan for the small ships, they would be massacred. Then Poe blabbed about the transports on open comms and Holdo's escape plan fell into the hands of the enemy when Poe's longshot plan to shut down the tracker failed.

Just because Ryan Johnson can't accept criticism, doesn't mean that the fans will not give him the shits. He made a very bad move by insulting the fan base, and calling them manbabys for not liking his movie. Now him and Disney are paying the price for this, the fan base is pissed. I have to say, getting a Darth Plagueis/Snoke origin story would be SUCH a better use of movie time than a random side mission to find a hacker and all the other waste of story telling Finn and Rose had to do. I really wish SW8 had just skipped that entire arc, got Finn and Rose right on the enemy ship, and then spent more time on the important parts of the story (like Snoke origin, Rei's real parents, Rei getting trained etc.)

(as if we all didnt know that), they could have had rose and finn run into children who had been abducted by the first order to be forced into being child soldiers. It would have tied into Finn's character arc really, really well, and it would have been a believable point of tension. The rebellion (oops, resistance) and all their friends are running for their lives. But if Finn and Rose don't help these children, they're going to be forced into war. Do they take the time to help the kids? Do they ignore them and help solely the resistance? How is Finn coping with the mental fall out of being free of that fate and the horrors of his past? Now THAT would have been an interesting sub plot--with still enough time to give us Snoke's origin and Rey's parents.

Le epic prank! > So, Poe turned Hux into a walking joke in exactly 60 seconds (i counted), will never be taken seriously, even the admirals were rolling eyes if you watch closely. The bombing begins: > Slow, unshielded, barely armed, highly-explosive bombers, that comes out of nowhere, without hyperdrive. This instead of upgraded Y-Wings or a logical replacement of Y-Wings (like the K-Wing). > Blowing up an interesting dreadnought. > Tallisan (A-Wing) and Paige (Bomber), Poe's friends, with their minimal exposure were more interesting than Rose Aftermath: > Snoke smashes Hux to the group, where he makes a squeal, confirming that Rian want Hux to be a joke. RIP Hux > Finn wakes up, first thing he says is "REY!", you're ready for some emotional investment, but immediately Rian slaps some comedy where Finn headbutts the medical bed's glass a second time. > Finn proceeds to fall from the bed and his bacta suit is squishing synthetic bacta fluid.
