Take it easy boys! Dony is just touting the sponsors!! Everyone has to pay the bills! Right? It's completely up to us whether we use this stuff or not. We all have our own opinions/advice on this kind of thing. Dony's not jamming it down our throats, he's merely just giving us what his sponsors are asking, easy peasy, lemon squeezy! ; ) Keep up the good work Dony!

I’m yet to find anyone on the car repair forums I frequent who has used a fuel treatment product and had it fix their fault. They might be snake oil, or they might be something that’s worth trying before committing to a greater expense, I don’t know. Dony - your videos are excellent and well respected. I hope you don’t succumb to temptation and become a shill; that would be a great shame.

Guinea Fowl For old diesel Mercedes, doing something called a diesel purge is great for cleaning the shit out of the fuel side of the injection pump. You basically run the engine on the cleaner through a small jug that you put the feed and return fuel hoses into. I've had that work wonders on smoothing and quieting an otherwise healthy engine. I did it about once a year or two. Also, enzymes to break down bacteria that live within diesel tanks work great. The old Mercedes have a rough filter screen at the tank outlet as the first filter, then a fine mesh screen pod filter before the injection lift pump, and then a very fine screw on main filter after the lift pump but before the injection pump elements. The bacteria and the biomass that they leave behind when dead clog all three of those filters, especially the tank screen. The enzymatic cleaners digest the biomass and dissolve it. It unclogs the screen and then you just have to replace the fine mesh filter a few times and then the main screw on one and you're done. For gas engines, any fuel system cleaner that contains PEA will remove deposits. I see these PEA products as a maintenance routine. You can't pour a bottle into a car with 150k miles worth of garbage Circle K gas and expect it to remove all of those built up deposits.

Yes, interesting. I can see an advantage to pure cleaner being run through. But I mean the displays of colourful, enticing bottles all priced at ‘impulse buy’ levels that you see in any auto parts store. This is the subject of the video. In my experience, many have bought, none have had their problem solved.

Top-Tier gasoline already has more than industry standard cleaning additives. No need to spend more money on aftermarket gasoline additives unless you inherit an abused engine. Also, most auto manufacturers do not recommend adding any oil supplements to their engines - just use a high quality engine oil and change it according to the recommended interval.

I had a truck that was driven once a month during a 3-4 month period. The check engine light would come on for injector problem. I would change the bad injector. Did this on 3 different injectors. I tried a fuel injector cleaner the first time but it didn't help. My question is, if an injector is gummed up it seems to me the cleaner will never get into it in order to unstick it. The resistance in the affected injector was always bad. My second question is if an injector is stuck will that cause it to overheat and short out. Thanks for the helpful videos.

I remember Andy Granitelli who founded STP back in the 60's. Great products tested by decades of time. Great job, Donny!!
@janicetrohn6 жыл бұрын
Andy inherited STP when he took over Studebaker in '63, Studebaker bought STP from some guys in 1961 that developed and made it in one of their garages starting in 1954. Then went around selling it out of the trunk of their cars.
@RichardFallstich6 жыл бұрын
It was founded in 1953 by three businessmen, Charles Dwight Liggett, Jim Hill and Robert De Hart. In 1961, the company was acquired by the Studebaker-Packard Corporation. That's around the time Granitelli was recruited to endorse STP.

I'm old enough to remember the ubiquitous Andy Granatelli STP commercials on TV and the STP turbine cars at the Indy 500 in the mid-60's. Back then STP was what one added (sometimes multiple cans) to a car to quiet lifters and bearings, and hopefully reduce blow-by while trying to sell a well-used car.

@RussellBooth19776 жыл бұрын
In the last 20 years or so of my driving life I've found that fuel additives have been a waste of money because there has been a case of faulty fuel injectors (worn out & leaking) or a faulty fuel pressure regulator which has resulted in lower than normal fuel pressure & lean running. The spark plugs in a modern engine also stay relatively clean. As far as engine oil additives go,I've found that lifter free additives wear off after a few thousand kilometres so have only been a band aid solution in my case. I have to rip the cylinder heads off my Chevy LS1 engine next month & also rip the camshaft out as that & the hydraulic lifters need replacing,they are worn out & the camshaft has been hammered. Holden don't recommend the use of additives because they say that only increases the operating costs of the vehicle. Note that I've been driving cars which have done a few hundred thousand kilometres.

How is this stuff applicable to direct injection fuel systems? In DI engines, the fuel does not spray on the valves, but directly into the cylinders.
@mannys91306 жыл бұрын
Richard Fallstich For DI engines, you need to walnut blast the intake valves once they get gunked up. There's no fuel additive that will ever clean the un-sprayed intake valves of DI engines.
@RichardFallstich6 жыл бұрын
Labor-intensive processes such as walnut-shell blasting and manual valve cleaning required an engine teardown to access the valves. It was hard work and a very hard sell to many drivers. Scientists have found that the chemical polyether amine or PEA, when applied in strong concentration and under the right conditions, can effectively clean hardened carbon deposits from GDI valves and other engine services without blasting brushing or any teardown required.
