I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way about season 4, it feels like the Duffer Brothers have perfected the show. My only complaint is that I wish Netflix released the episodes in groups of 5 and 4, or even 6 and 3. 7 at once and then the final 2 a month later is definitely a weird move

We waited 3-4 years for this season and they DELIVERED LIKE CRAZY. We got 1 hour and 15 minute long episodes, the greatest leap back into horror elements, Robert Englund (Freddy Kruger, an 80s horror icon), a huge dive into the lore, amazing acting and new cast, incredible soundtrack, magnificent cinematography, 80s accuracy on another level, and so much more. Especially Episode 4. Max's standoff against Vecna was the shows greatest moment. Everything about it was perfection from soundtrack to the overall cinematography, acting and plot. And that PLOT TWIST... My theory is that Vecna pulls a Thanos "Infinity War" and wins in Volume 2 ultimately giving him the first victory for the antagonist's side and claiming Season 4 for the win. After setting up Eleven getting her powers back, my bet is that it's not gonna be enough and ends the season on a villain win while the group regroups and figures out a way to stop him in Season 5 (The Finale) once and for all. Hands down the greatest season of Stranger Things ever!

@gracereads29172 жыл бұрын
I think the most realistic part they're showing here now is that these events, all this monster madness, it has actually affected our characters on a deeper level. Max has grown reclusive and pulls away from the Hawkins Crew as she feels like she is the cause of Billy's death for joining with them in Season 2. Will isn't just third wheeling anymore, he's watching his sweet adoptive sister being bullied and tormented by horrible kids and he can't help her for fear that he'll become their next target and after his torment, he's not emotionally ready for that. Lucas has decided to push away from the Hawkins Gang in a very different way by instead surrounding himself with more popular, cooler kids who play basketball and have parties and girlfriends but has ultimately pushed Max away in the process. I heard a lot of ppl complain that Robin has gotten annoying but personally I feel that she's just not masking her emotions and feelings anymore which is what people do when they become comfortable with a group of people. We saw a glimpse of the talkative side of her when they all join together at the mall in S3 and most would forget that happened but now we're seeing that nervous way of carrying on talking now that Robin is in higher stakes situations and now she has a core group of friends she's never had before. Everyone has grown and the way these characters have changed has really built them for what's to come and if they'll try to escape the hurt of the past, or if they'll embrace it and take down the evil in Hawkins

That way, we can still binge watch, but there's also the suspense of waiting a week to see the new episodes. This way, shows have the ability to stay in the public eye for longer. That sucks because nobody knows and share things with her so she doesn't really bond with the others, even her relationship with Mike isn't really appealing anymore... Or the fact that we're supposed to care about her relationship with Max through a one episode shopping montage... In s4 she needed to uncover her whole backstory with 001. And I'd say the Mind Flayer is far more powerful than Vecna. I wouldn't be that surprised if it was revealed that Vecna is somewhat of a servant of him, since he creates portals when he attacks and portals to our domain is everything the Flayer wanted in the first place (if I'm not mistaken, it's Dustin who even says that Demogorgons are the Flayer's troops and Vecna is his 5-star general). We got an extra episode anyway and while I agree it was the worst episode in the show, it still had some good moments and episodes 8 and 9 make up for it. That episode didn't change my opinion on the whole season, it was a great season.
@natehouse5852 жыл бұрын
I know people have their opinions but it really feels like nobody actually watched the show. Season 2 was by far the best season, followed closely by season 1. Season 4 is easily the worst season. It literally took them 9 hours of episodes Jaír to explain where vecna came from but they didn’t even explain how he got his powers. They introduced characters that were just so unnecessary like the pizza delivery guy. Not funny at all and a waste of time. The episodes were so long but they got literally nowhere in each episode. In each episode they’re still trying to rescue hopper. Why does it take 9 hours in episodes just to do that one thing? Now about season 2’s the lost sister episode was literally one of the most important episodes. One huge thing it revealed is that Brenner was still alive. Yes that’s right we learned that wayyy back in season 2 so no surprise he came back in 4. Also it wouldn’t surprise me if they bring 008 back in the future because she was such a strong character. She encouraged Eleven to find her true strength when she was mentally at her worst ( being upset with her friends and hopper). Anyone who disagrees seriously needs to rewatch all the seasons because it really is a no brainer that 2 has the best characters, best storyline, best acting, and simply the best cinematography in general

Will's storyline and how it was written was amazing, and of course, top-tier acting from the entire cast, especially from Noah Schnapp as Will and Winona Ryder as Joyce. Season 3 was absolutely lacking of that horror and mystery that we enjoyed from the past seasons: it felt way too cartoonish, some characters were ruined like Mike and Lucas, there were a lot of awkward and out-of-character scenes, and they just ignored Will and forgot about his storyline. I also think they should’ve focused more on how PTSD affected the characters, or other mental health issues. That’s one of the things I really liked about season 1. Nancy felt guilty about loosing her virginity which I think a lot of people can relate to. She also was heavily influenced by barbs death. When we went to the upside down she also couldn’t sleep alone because she was scared. WE NEED MORE STUFF LIKE THIS
@robbiesmith80552 жыл бұрын
I think they really dropped the ball on PSTD with Will as well. He's very clearly struggling in S2, but once he's freed from possession the show never checks back in with his mental state regarding everything; it's like 'oh he didn't actually have PTSD, his episodes were just Upside Down hijinks and he's completely fine now'. Quite aside from his trauma in S1, he went through some Crap in 2. He experienced severe burning more than once, his body was hijacked, and he was forced to set a trap which led to the deaths of dozens of people, including his Mom's boyfriend who he had a personal relationship with. But the show just? Never addresses his feelings about all that? You're telling me he doesn't have an ounce of guilt for what happened to Bob? (It obviously wasn't his fault, but that's not how guilt works after all). He doesn't have PSTD because of his time in the Upside Down anymore? They've just moved right on from him and it really bugs me.

I honestly think the Lost Sister is more important than people say it is. It was placed really awkwardly and messed with the pacing, but the story was amazing. It wasn’t just a second pilot, it was more to show that Eleven wasn’t someone who used her powers for revenge rather used her powers to save others, something that Kali (Eight) never learned. She became more than just an invention that Dr. Brenner created in a lab and it showed she had compassion and empathy in her heart. Had they placed the scenes where she is with Eight throughout Chapter 5-8, it probably would’ve been a more well received storyline.

It's not that people don't acknowledge its importance to the story, we all know it was supposed to be a crucial plot point. We just think it was bad writing. The total amount of music being made across all platforms is greater, so necessarily it might seem like there is more bad music than there used to (which is true), but there is also MORE good music in equal proportions. There’s the kids in Hawkins, El reliving her past, and the plot with the Russians. So far these haven’t connected at all, and with that level of separation there’s almost more character development because of it. Each characters motivations are mostly contained where they are, with the exception of El and the half exception of Joyce. You get to see how Robin navigates the whole Nancy and Steve thing without outing herself, you get to see how much Max has been forced to mature since she lost her brother and how she’s learning to open up again, you get to see Mike and Will reconnect. I really hope this isn’t the product of an extended writing period and more indicative of what’s to come. Season 1 may have been an incredible foundation, but Season 4 is easily the king. (Also, holy shit the final revelation of El’s memories was such an insane twist with so many perfect red herrings and misleads. Also, that scene and Max’s escape brought me to tears. I was bawling and I never get like that. Like loud ugly crying)

I guess, if you hadn't a problem with the kids dialogues and all that dynamics between Max, El, Myke, Lucas and Will and the way their characters were managed, I get that you could like it. But for me and I guess for others they felt insufferable and they had so much screen time being the protagonists. Hopper's plot wasn't that good either even though his death was emotional, Billy's arc was the most interesting part and the scoop group dynamic was awesome but their plot had too much absurdity and I'm not even commenting about that ending with Suzie singing that shit ruining the climax for comedy. The cast is spectacular and always holds the show, but overall as a mystery/horror is not properly written, compare that to season 4 and especially season 1 and you get the point.

*HEAVY SPOILERS IN SECOND PARAGRAPH* Honestly, up til now, the formula for each season has more or less stayed the same: characters are split into groups, each group interacts with the threat/situation and gets a different view on the situation, groups come back together to compare notes, then groups split up to do different part of the save the world plan with El being their ace in the hole, and the big reason they win In season 4, we get as far into the formula as the groups split up before things are definitively different: the groups STAY apart for pretty much the whole season, and El is struggling to get her powers back, and even when she does, she can’t get back in time to actually help, and is forced to play interference against Vecna from inside Max’s mind, and even then, she fails. (And then their’s the entire Vecna storyline, but I’m still not quite sure how I feel about the Stranger Things equivalent to Voldemort) All in all, this season really was a breath of fresh air and I really enjoyed it
@godnotavailable20942 жыл бұрын
This is an interesting observation, and I would add an extra detail: when each group stays apart for the entire season (the three groups being Hawkins, California and Russia), it allows those individual groups to branch off even further into subplots, giving the whole season a very lofty, "more is more" feeling that some have described as the show trying to juggle too much at once. It's like you're watching at least three seasons of television all at once, none of which would stand on their own, but together they make something that feels really grand and justifies a ton of padding with excessive runtime. If anything I said sounded negative, I assure you it wasn't. I love it so much.

@dashx11032 жыл бұрын
The problem with the Kate Bush thing is that it doesn't actually make sense. Robin and Nancy determined that music saved Victor Creel from Vechna back in the day. They gave that information to the gang, who used it to save Max. But we learn later that Vechna/Henry just allowed Victor to live because he wanted Victor to be blamed for the death of his mother and sister. He wasn't saved by Dream a Little Dream of Me, like they thought. He was just spared as part of Vechna/Henry's plan.

I was not even able to sit through the first episode of the first season because I found it so stupid that right after a child had gone missing in the area, other parents would let their pre-teenage kids roam outside after dark or leave the house unnoticed. In real life most parents would not do that even under ordinary circumstances, but in Stranger Things that seems to be OK for at least 3 or 4 different households at the same time.

i think it would’ve been better for Season 3 specifically to be released in couples of episodes. episodes 1 and 2 are released a few weeks prior to the 4th of July. episodes 3 and 4 are released the next week, 5 and 6 the following week and then episodes 7 and 8 on the 4th of July, since those episodes take place on Independence Day. it would provide more time for fans to theorize about what would happen next and get excited. i know Netflix is a binge service, but they managed to do it for stranger things 4. a good example of releasing things separately on Netflix is the Fear Street trilogy. the first movie to be released was Fear Street 1994 which released on June 28th 2021. the second movie was Fear Street 2: 1978 which released on July 9th 2021. the final movie, Fear Street 3: 1666, was released on July 16th 2021. considering all the movies are connected, with the final movie closing the trilogy and the time in between the release of the movies, it was a lot more fun for fans to make theories about what was gonna happen next. the suspension and excitement for the next movie was amazing. because there was so much time in between the movies, Fear Street stayed really popular, with its popularity dying out around October, 4 months after the first movie’s release. not only was it popular for its storyline and the way it was released, but also because of the actors in it and the representation in the movies. in all i just think stranger things 3 would’ve been better if it had been released in a weekly format.

IMO Season 3 focused way too much on comedy and fanservice, since the show was continuously growing a large fanbase, but it honestly was kind of a let-down. It lacked the element of horror and mystery that we enjoyed from Seasons 1 and 2. I'm glad they brought back the horror in Season 4 and honestly it's even scarier than Season 1.
@Vitusdex2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, in Season 3 they didnt focus on the mysterious vibe the other 2 had. Instead of wondering why things happen, in season 3 they explained it immediatly in the same episode. But its still my favorite, since they went all out on the horror aspect. People getting controlled and falling apart into a giant flesh monster was really cool. Also i liked the russian plotline and how the characters dealt with it. Season 1,2 and 4 have the mysterious vibe, meanwhile Season 3 is comedy and straight up horror. Its a nice break, because without it will be always the same approach.

S3 is the weakest season, but it had the most action. I love season two more than most, but I enjoy slow burns. The only real gripe that I have with season two is Eleven is away from the main characters for too long. Maybe reunite them by episode six. However, season 2 had more mystery than season 3. Each season has it's strengths, but season four has taken all of the elements from previous seasons, from mystery to action, and combine them to make an amazing season. The problem that made it take this long to get the show on this exciting path is due to each season is so short. People complain about 20+ episode seasons of other shows, but it keeps you in the show. Netflix just dropping 8 episodes at one time every few years doesn't really help the show, but if you binge watch the show as a newbie, you would say that was great and not notice as much the flaws.

As someone who lived through.the 80's, I can say that the first season didn't throw 80's nostalgia in your face, but rather just FELT like something made in the 80's. That's what made it great. The following seasons, it's like they listened to too many focus groups who said they really loved the 80's stuff, so more of that. Suddenly they were throwing 80's in your face, and consequently, it no longer felt like the 80's. It felt like a joke. Like the Wedding Singer(great movie BTW). The 4th season did dial it back and really focused on the characters and the writing, which was cool.

IIRC, right before COVID shut down filming, when they were looking for extras, they had a call for punk-like/urban people. so yeah, i think Kali (could) come back to the show. I know it would piss off a lot of fans, but honestly, I kinda liked the Lost Sister. the idea of an entire episode that acts as the show's main thesis - what separates Eleven from the rest of the Lab? what differentiates her from people like Dr. Brenner? at what point does justice become mere selfish vengeance? should you forgive those who have hurt you and were complicit in hurting you? - is refreshing and helps pace out the show so we're not just bombarded with "Will gets Mind Flayer'd" constant plot points. but at the same time, I can see why a lot of people didn't care for it - especially with how Kali's party feels a bit underdeveloped and unsubtle, plus it tries to shove in the anthology format in the middle of a season - and why it still gets a LOT of hate/disdain. update: she did in flashback form. i mistook a hellfire club extras call for a chicago extras call.

I feel like the lost sister is so aggressively shit on that it kinda needs an explanation for why its so shit on. Because honestly, I don't think it's a bad episode. The biggest complaint I have heard about the episode is that it was pointless. This however, isn’t actually correct as this episode teaches Eleven to use anger to amplify her powers. However, the way that the show reminds the audience that this power was learned from Eight is only through flashbacks that last for less than a second each. I feel like explicitly reminding, via dialogue, or thoughts, or anything else that Eleven got her amplified powers from Eight, would’ve lessened the backlash at this episode. Another argument that I see is that it is such a diversion from the normal show that it could’ve practically been a different series entirely. Honestly, I like the idea of a spin off, but clearly most people didn't. One more thing is that I feel like season 2 gets shit on just as much as this episode just for this episode. I also feel like that is the case here but personally season 2 is my second favorite season. When you look past episode seven the other eight episodes are literally amazing.
