I quite liked Stranger Things S4… as it’s own standalone series that had nothing to do with the previous three seasons. It feels like the first two seasons were exploring the first idea the showrunners had for the reasoning behind the upside down and then the fourth season was them exploring a totally different narrative. Like, in this one, Vecna picks on people with trauma and lifts them into the air to kill them, but in the first season, people were killed and/or brought into the upside down randomly?! what relation had the demigorgon to Vecna, I don’t feel like that was ever adequately mapped out.

Don't feel like you went over Lucas well, he actually did change or grow to a degree and in a pretty realistic manner. Lucas didn't want to be a nerd or a loser anymore but at the same time he wanted to elevate his friends with him as opposed to ditching them for popularity. I think my biggest complaint with stranger things is that they refuse to kill anyone from the main cast unless they’re introduced that same season or an antagonist. Barb was the only character with an excuse for that since it was impossible for her to have been introduced any earlier than she was. It also bugs me that any time an established main character has “died,” it’s been a fake out, like with hopper at the end of season 3 or max at the end of season 4. Going into season 4 i had a really strong feeling that a main character would actually die, so strong that in the graveyard scene with max and when steve was attacked by demobats i genuinely panicked about whether they would make it out. And then at the end that all finally paid off when max started floating off the ground with no music around to save her, and i cried so hard that i had to stop watching for several minutes to calm down. And then i hit play and it cuts to el saying “no” and i knew that she would save max, and it just pissed me off. It makes me feel like an idiot and i refuse to get so worried about the main characters again because now i know that the duffers dont have the guts to kill off an important character like that
@anarchistgoddess64922 жыл бұрын
the writers have to stop introducing new side characters just for the sake of killing them off so they don’t have to kill off the main characters. They also give the side characters more personality than the main ones so I would care more about their deaths than some of the main characters. Like Bob and the Russian scientist, Alexi. Their deaths hurt more than Lucas or Mikes would tbh lol. Because they add too many characters before ever fleshing out the main ones. So now you just have a bunch of characters no one gives a crap about. Literally all side characters have more personality than the main ones. Argyle, Billy (a bad personality is still a personality lol), Eddie, Murray, etc.

for eleven, i think the whole point was that after hoper “died”, she started trauma blocking even more of her already limited memory. i feel as if her season two and three story lines show how dependent she was on hoper, and having him stripped away from her like she was would definitely cause trauma (especially considering the circumstances), and she’d block more and more of her memory to keep herself safe. it makes sense she wouldn’t remember opening the gate considering she was so young and already messed up at the time of the incident. i think this was over all a pretty good season, one of my only complaints is how many different story lines they were following at a time, it was a bit difficult to follow everything, and i wish they had focused a bit more on the california crew, but other then that i feel like volume two will most likely tie up any other (seemingly) lose ends
@maem74622 жыл бұрын
I will agree the multiple different storylines was a bit wonky. I kinda felt like once 11 left they were like oh what do we do with Will, Mike, Jonathan, and Argyle. The stuff that happens is kinda fun but that storyline was a very different tone than the rest of the somewhat more serious but still had funny moments especially in that moment when most the rest of the story was serious
@leahrose42 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I’ve kind of had enough of the California storyline and Jonathan and Mike are two of my favourite characters. Also with Eleven, I feel like she’s always been dependent on Hopper and Mike, like when in season 3 max was telling her she can be dependent without them and make her own decisions, but she still depended on them. So I think her losing Hopper, and not even being able to do anything to stop him ‘dying’, affected her a lot. And the fact that Mike stopped saying he loved her and didn’t write it in those letters affected her, on top of everything with the bullies, probably made her feel so useless and unwanted. And with the whole Kali thing, Eleven and her were so different, with Kali wanting revenge and Eleven showing mercy when she saw that that man had children, that Kali’s method of anger wouldn’t necessarily always work for Eleven, but at that time she probably felt like she let Kali down because she didn’t kill him

I don’t mean to sound rude, and if my experience doesn’t align with yours please let me know! But I’ve never had trauma memory blocks that I could establish AFTER I had already knowingly had that memory. Only ones that I know are in place but willingly keep there for my own safety. But if the memory stuck, it’s there. No matter how badly I’d love to forget it, it will never not be there. If trauma from Hopper’s disappearance blocked her memory, it would have been from the time in which that particular trauma occurred. At least that’s how it’s been in my experience. I agree with Alex that this feels a bit cheap, and it was definitely not where they thought the story was going in season 1. It’s just that as the show gained traction, they tried to shift the story for a more blockbuster audience. Understandable, but it disallowed the development the characters had already had from feeling like it was meaningful or important.

They kinda implied in 4 why 11 was weaker in 3. When she did that enourmous surge of closing the portal, it started her weakening, like getting a fractured leg, and after everything she had to do in 3, it's like the equivalent of continuing to work on a fractured leg and breaking it instead of properly healing. I did detest the retconning of her entire arc, and how kinda pointless her snapping and assaulting her bully was. It was just a convenient plot way to get her to be taken away. It would have been just as effective to have her be grabbed during the insanity of the shoot out. It would have left Mike feeling like more of a failure to protect her, and would have made sense why they are looking for the lab instead of a jail all of a sudden. Her being bullied in general and hiding it made sense, she was the tough can handle literal monsters girl and now can't handle one ordinary teenager so she doesn't want to be seen as weak. But the excessiveness, the way the entire school joined in the bullying, it just made no sense. Why did they hate her so much? Will is weird, too, and they didn't show him being bullied. All of it was just handled poorly as a setup to remove her from the group. Adding 1 and having him manipulate a young 11 was perfectly fine, and they could have shown that negative emotions are what created the portal. There was no reason to have her memory loss as a result of it.

I would argue that the friend group splitting up may take away some of the heart and teamwork established in the earlier seasons, but it also symbolizes what happens when kids grow up and find themselves. Something that my dad pointed out is that in season 1 she cannot speak. She can only say a few words. I think it was just a given that they didn’t talk a lot, and they focused more on experimenting than education. What doesn’t make sense is that in season 4 we see that Brenner talks all the time, and other test subjects talk to her a lot too. I know that the other kids have probably just as much trauma as her, but why is she like the only one who can’t speak??
@beliviamckinnon1442 жыл бұрын
from what we know, eleven goes into a comatose state after defeating one. so i'm guessing it was almost like a stroke, where she lost certain memories and the ability to fully speak. and then, due to brenner being focused on her trying to find one, he probably prioritized experimenting over education

Honestly I absolutely dislike what they did to the laboratory. In the first season it was a mysterious place where kids were getting experimented on and didn't know what a normal life is and now it feels like a highschool??? Like the way they made El have trauma because of bullying she experienced there was so bizarre. It made the whole place seem.. I wouldn't say trivial but "everyday-ish"? Like it just doesn't even seem horrifying anymore. I have no idea if you get what I mean. I can't really explain it too well. I just feel like Eleven's character was better when she had this sick, paranormal backstory and not a "I got bullied" backstory. Like, we have enough of those. The whole point of her character was that she didn't had "normal" kid problems.

Steve and Nancy. Are we seriously doing this again? Steve and Nancy are great characters on their own, but together? Absolutely not. It didn't work the first time and it won’t work this time, either. What happened to Nancy+Jonathan? 3 seasons of build up down the drain. Drawn-out storylines (mostly involving the Hawkins laboratory).

For real, I don't know why they are trying to bring Nancy and Steve back together. They were shown to be at their peak apart from one another. On top of that, realistically, there is no way in hell Nancy wouldn't be bored of Steve in like a year at best. I like Steve but he has a serious case of "peaked in highschool" which... good for him, but Nancy is so goal-driven and ambitious. How on earth would someone like that settle for him? It simply wouldn't work. On top of that, if the only way you can make them work is by creating a bs reason why her boyfriend can't be there it might be a sign that there is literally nothing actually pulling them together? I think a better explanation would be, to open the doorway you have to make contact with the other side. She didn’t when she sent 001 through to another dimension. About the inconsistency with the upside down, I heard a theory where each person who goes into the upside down creates the world with every memory they have. I'll preface this with: I understand why you'd feel this way and everyone's entitled to their own opinions. But here's my own opinion about some of the points you made. - I do think Eleven's character arc is a little repetitive, tbh, but I don't think the Vecna thing reverses any of her character development. If anything we're just reinforcing how her powers work while also learning more about her. Whenever she over exerts she has to go back to the basics, so when she loses her powers entirely, she has to go back even further. When she sends Vecna off into the Upside Down, it's possible she didn't just "open a portal" but that she actually created the whole fuckin' place. Leaving 001 the opportunity then to sort of be the first to connect with it and shape it. It's also possible that it's frozen the next time the portal opens because Will (the first to be taken) had an influence over it, or maybe Vecna just finally had an opportunity to connect back with this world, but we still haven't had an explanation for that so I wouldn't say it's a plot hole yet, just a plot point. - I'm going to hazard a guess that the characters act dumb because they're no older than 14-15. Why did Mike think it was epic when El hurt his bullies, but not her own? Probably because in the moment, he was thinking selfishly, as well as the fact that I'm pretty sure the bullies were threatening him and his friends, making fun of Will's death, and had been likely torturing them for years whereas he only learned within that afternoon that Angela was a bully and not El's friend. Mike's character arc this season isn't fully done but it seems to me that he's coming to terms finally with El being her own human and not an idealized person he had in his head, and it's possible he actually doesn't love her in the romantic sort of way. Idk. Will also deserve more screentime imo but he's kind of quietly been going thru character development, getting a bit bolder across the seasons, I'm guessing vol2 will give him the big catharsis of a coming out scene so that'll give people more to chew on. I also actually really liked Mike and Will's interactions this season because they were incredibly close s1 & s2, so we finally get to see them back together and close after Mike's asshole arc in s3. I can see why people might find them boring if they're not as invested in that friendship though. - The gang all being seperated does suck and some of the extra characters like Jason are not very interesting, but I don't understand how Eddie isn't "related to the main characters". He's directly shown to be a role model for Dustin and Mike in the episode he's introduced, and then further is integrated pretty well into the Dustin/Steve/Robin group. Also Chrissy and Fred pretty much immediately die, they're basically filler/side characters to show how Vecna works which has been done across all of the seasons, so I don't get what's wrong with them. Jason is most annoying, and Argyle feels unnecessary to me, but most of the other added characters serve some kind of function. I have a feeling that this "season" might feel half baked right now to you because, well, there's still like 3 or 4 hours of content left to go when vol2 drops. We haven't gotten everyone's character arcs to finish yet and we also don't know how many people are going to die in the finale, not do we know the full lore about certain things. Vecna's monologue was kind of a lore dump but it was also only from his own manipulative mouth, so he could still be hiding shit we've yet to find out. I think s4 is one of the stringer seasons but it is a little too bloated for its own good, but I also think sometimes people are forgetting shit like... The ages of the main characters, or the fact that it's actually realistic for characters to have flaws. .... Okay that's all I'm just too invested in the show for my own good, congratulations if you read all that.

Your first point, It's obvious that El didn't create the Upside Down and I don't know why people assume so - I do agree that the whole Vecna thing doesn't reverse her character development, but in reality she hasn't received a single development this season really, which is just as bad. Your second point, I agree with. Your third point, I would sort of disagree and say Jason is some what interesting because we finally get a character that isn't knowledgable of the upside down just as we and the other characters are, but is just as involved. In my opinion, makes him extremely realistic, imagine your girlfriend dying and the person who was there with her just disappears? He'll most likely not die this season and get a 'redemption' arc of some sort, people hating on him are just weird ass people. (not saying you do but in general, people do). Eddie isn't really a main character only because he's been in 1 season, same logic would be applied to Bob who was only in 1 season, he wasn't a main character. Likewise Eddie isn't. Overall it's a great season, just depends heavily on how it ends. If no major character dies then I'll be disappointed.

It's okay bro I am also incredibly invested and I also came to the conclusion that El made the upsidedown. Ive also been watching the season purely from a PTSD and mental illness point of view and it's kinda incredible how much detail they put into the show. Like in ep. 1 season 4 when Max is walking to the councilor's room and looks at the group of friends, the couple kissing, and then Lucas. Are all things she gained in season 2&3 but lost because of the burden of Billy's dealth. Then when Vecna tries to kill her, her flashbacks reflect what she lost. On a completely different side note, it feels like in this season they were going for a traditional Halloween vibe. With the creepy manner, the bats, graveyard, red creepy fog, spiders, also Fred and agiles song, Tbh it all felt like Scooby doo. I wish I could articulate more stuff but eh this is just a KZbin comment

@@shehz I'm not entirely tied to the "El created the UD" theory, but I am curious as to how it's incredibly obvious that it's not true. Right now it seems still up for debate. I'd at least say if she didn't create it, she's probably the first person to access it or bring it closer to the 'real world', since it seems so unformed when 001 is sent in there. And yeah I'd agree that El hasn't had much character growth yet- from interviews the idea seems to be that she'll grow more autonomous this season, so I hope in vol2 we'll see how that manifests. On the Jason point- his reaction to losing his girlfriend is realistic, but he's still an asshole who's gone too far. Like when he started beating up Eddie's bandmates, he had no reason to assume they were at all involved in Chrissy's death aside from just knowing Eddie. And then launching into his whole "D&D is a cult" thing and leading a mob against a group of other teens... Basically he's kind of gone off the deep end. I can see why he'd behave like he does but that doesn't always mean it's good/justified. He's also sort of a symbol of the theme of this season- "forced conformity, that's what's killing the kid", he's the enforcer of the status quo. I'd have to assume he's going to die this season tbh. Also I just think they spend too much time on his storyline that could be spent elsewhere & we'd still end up understanding his motivations. You're allowed to like him but I don't think it's all that weird that people would hate his character since he's kind of the mini/human villian of the storyline.

Mike is probably my favorite character as well. People hate on him for reasons I cannot see. He has always been a good boyfriend and an emotional kid. The show has been giving him less and less importance since season 2. People have dogged on him since season 3 for absolutely no reason. He was a great boyfriend in season 3; going with El everywhere, spending as much time as possible with her when she couldn’t stay out late, until max influenced el to split from him, and was still the only character concerned for her well-being. Hopper treated both of them terribly. I have never seen this love triangle aspect for the three kids. There has never been a time where mike displayed any seemingly romantic feelings for will. He has always been with eleven, he has always acted like he wants eleven. It was never a back and forth like with Nancy, Jonathan and Steve. It wasn’t even until last season where anybody saw them together, even still it’s very much 1 sided (poor will, nobody cared about him until knowing he was gay)

This is an interesting conversation because I remember going blind into season one, there's one scene that happens at the very beginning, when the 4 boys are leaving Mike's house just before Will goes missing. I felt the vibe between Will and Mike right there when they were saying goodbye, and I was like oh these 2 will date in the future. Then some scenes later Eleven was introduced as Mike's love interest so I forgot about the whole Will & Mike dynamic. For this reason, I do disagree with people saying Mike doesn't love Will, I see Mike as someone who is probably Bi because although he loves El, he definitely cares about Will in a more than friend way. The way he acts with him, you'll never see him act that way with Lucas/Dusty. But again, I understand why some people (especially straight people) would not feel the mutual interest vibe because for straight people you put two opposite sex characters on screen for 1 minute and they will assume they're love interests but for put same-sex characters and the same people are always in denial to the point where they want it to be spelled out that the characters love each other.@@Camilla550

I remember bits and pieces but not enough for me to remember the fact I gave my little sister a scar at 7 (Which I don't believe I did). Hell I didn't even know what my trauma was until I turned 16. I think they did Eleven perfectly and the show did it well. That's like the only point I had to counter because I liked how the actress did it. Even having ptsd attacks and such throughout which are unseen. Though it did annoy me that it went out of no where, I still think it was fine. Nothing like Riverdale. Just wanted to say this piece just in case anyone was wondering. Also ptsd comes in many forms as well so even if one person can remember their entire trauma, some people forget their entire personality.

To be fair, the government shipped Eleven and the Byers across the country into witness protection to get away from the shenanigans of the earlier seasons. The freakout, at least to me, was because even Mike was all, "Dude, you cant be doin this. Gotta keep it on the downlow."
@MariaSantos-cm2bb2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say they are under a witness protection program, all of them still use their real names except for El who wasn't even registered and all of them still keep in touch with people they knew before they moved and they even consider going back to hawkins to visit (this time mike went to california to see how El's life was there but nancy and jonathan discussed the possibility of jonathan going there)

Theres some messy parts but honestly I really love this season. I really love how they went a more teen detective kind of theme for most of the season instead of just completing focusing on El and her powers which they do also but its more of a B plot until they connected it at the end, which I really liked also. And honestly I don't think Mike is being a hypocrite because yeah she attacked his bullies before but as far as I remember she just more focused on scaring them while in this season she was on the border of almost killing that girl. Which yeah she deserved a good knock to the hewd but El did take it a tad far but understandably so and just a tad lol

I am #1 mike defender in this situation for these reasons and also #1: Troy almost killed Dustin and Mike. What Eleven did was in self- defense. Yes what Angela did was humiliating but El went after her in revenge. #2: The injury on Angela's face was a lot more visually horrifying than breaking Troy's arm and could've hurt her much worse. She could have had brain trauma, a scar, etc. She will not be the same after that attack. Kids break their arms all the time, though. Troy turned out fine. #3: Mike is older than he was. Since the incident at the cliff he's pretty much only seen Eleven use her powers on creatures from the upside down IIRC. #4: He was shocked in the moment and went to apologize to her the next day. #5: Part of the disconnect and how Eleven read the situation was Mike not loving her because she didn't have superpowers anymore. We can deduce from this that she believes if she'd gone after Angela with her powers, not physically, things would've been different. Physical violence is a lot more shocking than people being tossed around with superpowers and both Mike and Eleven seem to acknowledge this-- and again, he went to apologize the next day. Also as far as the I love you thing goes (it wasn't in this video but people use it to detract from Mike all the time) Mike never said it to Eleven in the first place. He blurted it out in the context of not wanting to lose her. He never fully confronted it and her about loving her, Eleven just happened to hear him blurting it out. He tried in the supermarket in Season 3 but he just couldn't say the word.

Season 1-2 were awesome compared to 3-4. The thing about 3 and 4 is that there was nothing mysterious about them anymore. They just ended up being too predictable and you knew that the characters wouldn’t die. Season 1 actually kept the main part of the story a complete mystery the whole way through. You never knew what was going to happen until you got to the last couple episodes. Now when you watch 3 and 4, you pretty much know what is going to happen because they are more focused on making the fan favorite characters as likeable as possible.
@claudiamiller58952 жыл бұрын
I think this is one of the first videos I’ve mostly disagreed with! There’s a lot of hidden details that tie into all of the other seasons and everything seemed to click more for me during this season. It’s not over yet so some plot holes will fs be fixed in the last two. There are also a lot of subtle hints in their playful dialogue, like all of the dnd scenes. But like with Will not getting powers in the upside down like 001, he’s different because he’s not like any of the doctors children. He didn’t have any powers to begin with. And eleven is shown slowly losing her powers as she gets weaker, which was the main point of this season. I will say that a lot of main characters were put on back burner, like Joyce and Jonathan, but I think that’s so we can build up more storyline with the others. I hate riverdale so I hope they never get to true riverdale format lol ETA: I also really appreciated the depth they’ve added to some of the characters. Like Will is starting to come to terms with his pent up feelings and resentment towards Mike that has been building up over the seasons, Lucas is trying to be accepted and well liked by the popular kids but also struggles with not being supported by his friends, Max is dealing with the trauma of watching her abusive brother die and dealing with her guilt. We also get to hear more of Hoppers storyline and how he had a family.

@peppermint13492 жыл бұрын
Agreed a lot! Like for example for El getting bullied in the past well the thing is her traumatic experience wiped away that memory completely so she would not have remembered ever experiencing any bullying at all? Also Hopper being alive it was pretty much already implied on season 3 end when he ''died'' that he was still alive hence there was no body and also the shoes thing... also no one mentioning her opening the portal thing.. I actually don't think it was just her it was both her and 001 together that caused the portal to open (at least I believe this) And the world in upside down is probably the world 001 more or less created he said he wanted to create a better different world and I mean.. yea.. anyway why would no one mention her opening the portal before? Well if someone experiences a traumatic event that wipes their memory you actually can't just go and tell them or remind them just like that.. so of course why would they imply on it?? I LOVED the season.

She was apparently traumatized by that treatment and making her relive that trauma is the opening Vecna got into her mind. It may not relate to many of the other characters and that is probably why it was not a bad decision to make her the first victim. I think the reason that Will is unaffected by the Upside Down when he was there unlike Vecna, is that he doesn't have any telekinetic powers 😅 I imagine that for the Mindflayer Will was just yumi yumi food, and Vecna was someone way more powerful and evil... I don't know if the Mindflayer can sense those kind of abilities on people, but my fair guess is that he/it does and maybeee we will found out in the 5th season. About Will, there are a LOT of references about his possible sexual orientation (I mean, doing a class project on Alan Turing, c'mon), something that would explain why he's like holding back on himself (you know, he's a teen discovering his preferences and he's in the 80s). And if you add that to trauma (being kidnapped by a monster, almost dying like twice, moving out of town and of his friends, his parents divorce, the dead of Bob) and the growing pains... Maybe he's just the shy and introverted in the group above everything else that I just said, so I don't think is underdeveloped as a character, maybe he's not like in our faces like Mike or Dustin, even Eleven. You did cover a lot in the video but these two were the ones that resonate to me the most. Hope I explained it well because English is not my first language jejeje. Greetings to everyone :)

Although he is not a pivotal character, he supports the plot in such a way that ppl still love him for what he brought to the show. & yeah he may not have had a prior emotional connection, but you cannot argue that he didn’t feel anything after the trauma he endured. & they were becoming better friends & building a trust within each other so even though they weren’t super close, there had to be some form of open ended emotional gratification/closure on Eddie’s part that drove him to fight Vecna with the rest of the characters. His character was simply put - that he already was the type of person that was emotional, whether he acknowledged it within himself or not. That’s kind of his whole character development.

I find it crazy how the first few seasons were about Will and now he’s barely a main character. I hope they loop it back around in a way because watching this last season, I forgot he even went missing.

Noah's performance in S02 was so good that it made Will my favourite character, but he's been a total after thought ever since. It's so weird. I'm with you, I'm hoping that after some of the main cast dies (like the Duffers keep implying) they'll have more room for forgotten characters like Will who haven't done anything the last few seasons.
@WillowJordan19792 жыл бұрын
My issue with this and the previous season is that the characters are so spread out having their own side quests. The cast doesn't seem as united as they were in the first seasons, because they're divided into smaller groups that don't interact with each other. That means the relationships between some of characters don't really evolve. I've found that disappointing compared to the early seasons.
@brizdem21132 жыл бұрын
That's the point though. They make different storylines with different people and have them develop on their own and come together in the end. And also for the plot it just doesn't make sense to keep them together the whole show.

I agree, however, I had the opposite reaction to how their separate storylines played out. I actually enjoyed the separation between them. These little subplots and quests that everyone is doing in their small collective groups seem super divided, but so unified in terms of all of them finidng different pieces of information that will ultimately help all of them uncover the truth. They all are discovering different tasks but are all helping each other in different ways, therefore this is why I like the direction they went with that!

my prob was will is so unused this season. he was literally the focal point of season 1 and season 2, can sense the upside down and the monsters, and they don't use his onscreen presence for anything other than his struggle with his sexuality, third wheeling mike and el, or that wierd neck chill he gets when he senses vecna like bruh. they also broke up the original friend group and reduced mike's character from unofficial leader to someone who couldn't care less about his friends and whose only personality trait is being el's boyfriend. even lucas's personality doesn't get explored beyond his relationship with max and having the initial struggle with trying to get popular and coming back to his friends later. although his performance with max in the last episode was some of the best acting I've seen so I'm pretty sure it's just the writers not giving him the opportunity, same with the actor who plays will not getting any opportunities lately when though they're both phenomenal actors. the only one who actually has a developed personality from the og cast is dustin and/or steve, they're literally carrying the show rn because they're actually interesting and actually doing actions that drive the story and plot. just feels like once the friend group broke up they prioritized dustin and steve and fumbled the rest of the characters so bad.
@gymnasticsgirlie06472 жыл бұрын
Agree with everything except the fact that Dustin has a developed personality. Still love him though. To be honest, Steve is probably the only character on the entire show that has had any sort of substantial character development. Dustin has always been the goofy one, Max and Erica always the sassy ones, El always the unsure one. The only exceptions I can think of are that Mike and Lucas went from having actual personalities to being mere extensions of their girlfriends, though I'm not sure that really counts as character development.
@anarchistgoddess64922 жыл бұрын
They basically just used Will to be the victim and dumped a bunch of trauma on him and then cast him aside and gave him no life or personality. There’s no way he wasn’t really messed up after all the things he went through yet they never go over it. Instead he’s made to look like an immature child because he still wants to play D&D, which his friends wouldn’t do with him (most of his childhood was ruined and y’all spent so much time trying to get him back and you can’t even play a few games with him)??? Like bruh. -_- and honestly the writers have to stop introducing new side characters just for the sake of killing them off so they don’t have to kill off the main characters. They also give the side characters more personality than the main ones so I would care more about their deaths than some of the main characters. Like Bob and the Russian scientist, Alexi. Their deaths hurt more than Lucas or Mikes would tbh lol.

It really annoys me how they are making so many minor or extra characters with borderline or full on psychopathic traits, or at best 0 critical thinking. Even Elle's bully made fun of her dad being dead and and all the other school kids did nothing or were on board. Not one person would at least approach her privately about how messed up that was, not even a teacher? She also made it her full-time job to make her life a living nightmare and harass her with the potential to get expelled and/or sent to juvenile detention for what exactly? Then there's that jock who somehow got the entire town on board to kill children with absolutely no evidence besides circumstantial. like why take characters to these extremes to the point where we get schadenfreude when they get hurt or killed? seems like a cheap and superficial way to get people invested imo.

Jason convincing the town is completely believable. Even when Mike was trying to get a stand-in for the vecna campaign one person says “my mom said that promotes satanic worship and animal cruelty.” Eddie is introduced by reading an article about how d&d promotes murder, and Eddie as a character represents social deviance and non-conformity. The town has been through a series of unexplained deaths for the last three years, the summer prior 30 people died at star court after the mall closed, the federal government + military showed up, and they called it a “mall fire” it makes perfect sense that people would be on edge, the town has been through a lot. Jason represents the towns reaction to social deviance, and also acts as the vessel through which the town interacts with the main characters. Specifically Lucas, because Lucas wants to be popular and accepted. His arc this season was about deciding to be misunderstood with his friends, than accepted without them. He rejects the status quo, rejects the possibility to be popular, for the sake of his friends. It’s not an accident that “forced conformity” is referenced, or that Eddie “the freak” Munson is immediately pegged for devil worship and satanic rituals.

Which basically encompasses all the main characters. It's funny, because they hyped up the deaths for Season 4 so much before it came out, hinting and hinting and hinting that main characters would actually die. Did they ever actually say that in the show? Because if they didn’t you really shouldn’t be doing the tv shows’ work for them and explaining their own plot holes. That’s not good writing and it’s bad if the show has to rely on fan theories to close up their plot holes/inconsistencies. But I’m also not certain at all that they explained why El forgot about 1, but maybe they did explain why she forgot how to use her powers but I’m also in the camp that they didn’t. I also think that the show presented El losing her powers as just that: losing her powers, she didn’t forget them she just lost them ig?? I agree with most of the points you made in this video, I just binge watched Stranger things This week knowing nothing about it prior and I definitely have a few issues with season 4. I feel like they just tossed out most of the character development from the previous 3 seasons. I Honestly think that the show could of ended with Season 3 and I would have been satisfied with the ending, even though I love Hoppers Character. Season 4 just doesn’t fit with the rest of the storyline. Also them completely forgetting about Will in seasons 3 and 4 is horrible, he could be so much more important to the storyline. And the whole 11 thing in season 4 doesn’t make much sense- She can’t talk basically at all in season one yet in her flashbacks she is having full conversations? And I personally think it’s pretty convenient to just have her forget everything that happened in the lab until it’s useful to the plot (I know she may have blocked it out because it’s traumatic, but she has memories of several other traumatic events). Overall I love the show, but season 4 doesn’t fit with the rest of the show in my opinion.
