I'm a 73 year old man who has been weight training for the last 9 years. It has been so beneficial to my body and soul. I do not take any prescription drugs. I thank you for getting the information out to a wider audience. I will continue to strength train until the finish line.

My Hindu Gods sent you Doctor to pass on this message. I ain't exaggerating. As far as I know nobody has really linked resistance training to brain health. I know my IQ increased after lifting weights. However, it was just my gut instinct. You put it down to a science. I hope I get a more thorough analysis. Right now, brain health benefit is only linked by science to cardio. Your video is an important beginning.

Lol a ton of studies have linked resistance training to brain health going back decades. And even in ancient times philosophers predicted resistance training strengthened the brain. And in the Enlightenment era some philosophers believed the same. Its not new information it's just information hidden from the public.

As far as IQ there's some studies showing a tiny bit of increase in functional IQ and others that show no increase. But memory, focus, coordination and other specific cognitive functions are increased by weight training.

I'm 67 I hit the weights 5-6 days a week and have done so for the last six or so years. I take Creatine, Protein and ZMAX. Usually when new people join the gym, if they can last 3 months, they'll probably stick with it. That 3 month mark seems to be a critical factor as to weather or not someone will stick with it. Thanks for your videos.

Thank you for another wonderful video on ways we can restore brain health. You have helped me understand the multiple ways that weight training can improve brain function, and that understanding will motivate me to make it a significantly higher priority in my day. I also appreciate your advice about how to make this an ongoing habit, and the importance of getting some professional coaching to avoid injury, and community to provide encouragement and additional brain stimulation. ❤😊

Hi Austin, interesting view. I was always a little concerned with strength training as I thought it was not advised when taking B.P. medication. By strength I am talking resistance bands etc. Having found out it is encouraged to do especially when prediabetic, I have since changed my outlook and have found plenty of articles encouraging strength/resistance training...

You would be surprised by how isometrics effect the brain. I have seen a study say they increase grey matter in the brain and I wouldn't doubt it because you're sending a constant signal for a long period of time (at least in the case of yielding isometrics) which helps grow neurons.

Why is everyone focused on growing neurons i think its better to focus on the conection between them

Yes I doubt it. Here is an excerpt from Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience “ People in the study who did a variety of dancing styles for an hour, 3 times a week had healthier White Matter in the part of the brain linked with memory. Scientist believe that the combination of exercise, mental stimulation, and social engagement, Make Dancing a good choice for holding off the effects of aging” I dance 14 different styles , 4 to 5 times a week, 2 to 3 hrs per session. I am the living proof that this work. I am now 86 yrs old male. What you are saying would hold through if you have reach old age say 80 or 90 yrs. You are not socializing nor there is brain stimulation when doing isometrics.

@kwikstep Isometrics legit are the strongest stimulus you can give your muscles and brain. Matter of a fact the reason it is the ultimate way to gain strength is because of the neurological stimulation. Im glad your methodology has worked for you but for me i have not seen something better for mental stimulation and strength than isometrics. Everyone has their method. Good luck sir.

@@kwikstep-1 you're referencing 1 study to make an entire argument, this would get you a failing grade in a freshmen level undergrad program. Plus evidence showing that dancing improves brain health doesn't disprove that strength training or isometrics don't also improve brain health. Your argument is so logically fallacious that I feel like I'm arguing with an 8 year old. Go to sleep old man. You don't know what you're talking about.

@@kwikstep-1 the fact that you think anecdotal evidence with a sample size of 1 without all variables controlled is "proof" tells me you are uneducated, like not even on a highschool level. And you didn't make a single point to dispute why isometrics and resistance training are good for the brain... you're hopeless

I didn't hear it come out, but thought the other benefit of resistance training is that muscle mass acts as a glucose "sink", so glucose regulation is easier with more muscle mass versus sarcopenia?

I disagree, resistance training does not stimulate the brain . Dancing to different kind of dances really will stimulate your brain. I am 86 yrs old, male. I dance quickstep, Viennese waltz, tango, foxtrot, slow waltz, rumba, cha cha, samba, salsa, bachata, Argentine tango, west coast swing, hustle, east coast swing etc. to remember all the figures, steps, rhythm, timing, body and leg action will really stimulate your brain. You are also socializing and enjoying life. I dance with different women to make it a challenge to the brsin. All of those exercise mentioned does not train your brain to remember. Anything. Any body can lift weight, do strength training.

Lol are you even a scientist? Who are you to arrogantly proclaim you disagree with hard scientific data? Sit the fuck down dude.

@McCarthy1776 14 күн бұрын
Nobody cares that you're 86 and like dancing. Do you have any hard data other than personal anecdotal data? And plus the fact that dancing stimulates the brain doesn't disprove the fact that resistance training does as well. You aren't very smart are you. I'm gonna chalk this up to dementia and give you a break I guess. But you need to humble yourself because you don't know shit and you aren't a scientist, I doubt you've even read the literature on this...

Your argument is not very scientific, it's sloppy and casual. You don't cite any sources, you only provide personal anecdotal evidence. You commit logical fallacies and you didn't even present an argument as to why you think all the studies on this are wrong. You really think you're smarter than the majority of PhDs who specialize in this field? You are an extremely arrogant man.

I can tell just by your little comment that you don't understand neurology at all. Studies have proven that memory exercises improve your memory LESS than physical exercise alone. If it offends you then too bad. Facts are facts. Your opinion is worthless. You're a nobody
