I enjoy these types of videos every now and then just to see some of the planning that goes into these more ambitious missions, and frankly I'm very glad it's not (yet another) Mun landing. What surprised me is how easy, or in some cases hard it was to get encounters for docking and landing. Personally I've had a massive amount of trouble wrapping my head around the concept, so it was cool to see a "seasoned veteran" like yourself really show how it's done in real-time. I know it would interfere with the vibe of your typical content, but I'd be totally down for more of these types of vids in the future, if infrequently. (Maybe Laythe next time?)

I put in one of the systems(vulture) and had a ship with modded power generation that could maintain warp 1.6 forever. It was going to take 25 RL days to fly there at that speed. Would be really hard to make a video without cheating your way to the new system or just showing a few seconds of a long boring trip. Then it's just the same thing going around a planet with different graphics. I knew space was big but I never really understood how big until I did that.

oof 30°C 🥀 The fairings came together nice! Drag cubes are dynamically generated so you can hardly reskin without changing them a little bit. Everyone can see you're using Restock, which is not the case for the patch I use. :) But I use the patch because it means faster loading and it's more accurate on some nose cones. I wanted to build my own keyboard as a project, but there's just no reason for me to do so. I get on all right with Logitech keyboards, believe it or not with how much I type, but I've got a Kinesis Freestyle 2 now and it's great! Given that I don't know what switches I'd like without trying them, I think I'll stick with these. (I wonder if someone will tell us Kinesis use something better than Cherry switches. XD I don't know, but I'm half-expecting it!) I don't see how a switch would feel better or worse just because it's optical. It might be easier to design as you don't have to think about how the contacts would affect the feel, but I'm sure it's not a problem for Cherry who have decades of experience with designing mechanical switches. I had to fix staging during launch once or twice. I found it a little too exciting! XD If the command module spins around and whacks into the lander, would that make it slapstick comedy IN SPACE? :) But that might be my sleep deprivation talking. Matt: "We got loads of time to apoapsis, so there was no stress in that whatsoever." Me: _Worrying whether the lander's engine will fire by accident._ :) But I should have had faith in Matt -- he checked his staging, even if he did do it on the fly. There's a fix for the engine sound bug in KSPCF, but it often makes all the sound come out of one speaker when you're in map view -- annoying with headphones. The actual bug is the sound is given a position very far away from where it should be, so I guess KSPCF just limits the position relative to the rocket instead of centering it in map view. Nice touchdown! The commentary is good. I'm even thinking this looks set to be one of my favourites. :) It's easier for me to listen to than normal, probably because I find it harder to listen to punchier commentary. That said, I might be getting better as I learned something about my health. I realised I've got ADHD, and I'm learning how stimulants help. One person even said something like, "A person with ADHD needs stimulants like a short-sighted person needs glasses." I know all about living with glasses! :) But whether or not my body can tolerate caffeine every day is another question. Oh the encounter excitement! :) Oh not targeted? That was weird. I'm sure if I tried to comment while playing, there would be... comedy. Let's just call it comedy. :) We're keeping the lander attached! We're living dangerously! :D 34°C! 🥀🥀🥀 But seriously, in an airless room, I'd take a break just to ventilate it. Then again, time to take such a break is not always available, I guess. I tried playing around with the position of mid-course corrections, and found the best place was the actual middle of the course. Ner ner neer ne, ner ner neer ne, heey Jude! ~~See, I was writing it down.~~ KSP making it quicker for the player to do things that go slower for the kerbals is kind-of like Minecraft where the world just stops if the player isn't in a nearby chunk. Or maybe it's the opposite because the villagers and animals don't notice time passing. One time, I was building near enough to a village that the villagers' crops grew, but far enough away that the villagers themselves were not even _created_ yet! I wasn't bothered by the land flashing. Perhaps that's because I always brace myself when I see the camera start moving. Wow! No quicksaves! :D Jolly good show, Matt! Hmm, low tech to Duna? I do enjoy the occasional low-tech mission. If I suggested a low-tech _SSTO_ to Duna, would that be too much? I guess it'd need refuelling in LKO, or to be launched on a rocket and return as a spaceplane.

Just watched the video. Great stuff. Have a few questions, followed by an answer to the question you asked in the video. 1. What is the actual purpose of the LES? I've got more than 1000 hours into KSP, and I've never used it. Nor have I ever seen anyone explain what it's used for, or how to use it effectively. I know this wasn't a tutorial video, but it's a question I have, so there you are. 2. Why did you not use the rest of the fuel - or at least some of it - from the ascent stage for the LKO circularization? I know you said you over-engineered the craft (which I also have a tendency to do), but why not use it if you brought it with you? That would have saved on fuel for the trip there and back, right? 3. Why did you go EVA in LKO to get crew into the lander? Couldn't you have just used the Transfer function considering you had the lander connected via a docking port (albeit to the engine)? 4. Due to Duna's rotation, didn't you come in on the "hot" side? That is, you came in following the same rotation as Duna, which, if I'm correct, cost you additional dV for the capture burn. Shouldn't you have come in right-to-left instead of the left-to-right rotation you used? 5. When attempting rendezvous burns, such as when you launched from Duna's surface to get back to the mothership, why aren't you adjusting the engine thrust of the craft? I always do that so that the burn times get longer and more controllable. I mean, you do you, but I'm curious as to why you don't do that? And now for the comment! You asked if we liked this video, and if we did, what other missions could you fly using this style. Well, I loved the video. I like raw, unfiltered commentary and in-game hijinks that you aren't correcting; it makes me realize that I'm not the only one that forgets stuff or does things that I have to correct in-flight. But as for more like this? Well, I'd like to see a Jool-5. Everyone does videos of Eve, or Duna, or even Moho. But I've yet to see a live commentary, in the style of the video you just did, for a Jool-5. That, at least to me, would be interesting. Oh, and one more question for you please. What visual mods are you using? I like the style of the interface, and I know it's not the stock one. What visual mod is doing this? Anyhow, great stuff. Keep it coming!

He's done a bunch of tutorials in the past, including much of the first 2 Lowne Aerospace series, and he's explained a lot in most of his non-tutorial videos too. After all that, he's got tired of explaining. :) If Matt's tutorials don't work out for you, nor the ones he references such as Scott Manley's, try Mike Aben. There used to always be a few people saying "I've played for years but I can't land on the Mun" until Mike Aben made his tutorials.

I can't remember how long it took me to develop a rescue SSTO, but it was at least 5 months, maybe a lot more. Launching the rescue SSTO from Laythe was one of the most terrifying things I've done in the game. Besides the absurdly high lift-off speed on the small island, at the last instant before takeoff, the plane was somehow yanked 45 degrees to the left so suddenly, I didn't even see it happen. I was rolling 90°E, then I was flying 45°NE! I don't think I'll set my landing gear to maximum friction again. At least it flew fairly well, but making it fly well is largely why developing it took so long. It took me such a long time to learn how to make planes fly well. In fact, I have well over 2000 hours in the game, maybe over 3000, but the majority of that time has been spent in the SPH trying to get SSTO designs right. It doesn't help that I hate landing planes or rockets, unless it's on Minmus. (It's starting to get easier as I use lights to help me judge the distance to the ground.) Also, I build SSTOs not just because they're cool, but because trying to plan multi-part missions confuses me badly. All the missions I've got off the ground have been relatively simple by comparison with other players. And both the Laythe and a (one-way drone) Eve mission happened because I so very much wanted to see those worlds from their surfaces. (Without mods, Eve was a huge disappointment.) I've recently realised I've got ADHD. I think it affects my playing because I never know if I'll be able to focus when the mission requires it. Stimulants help people with ADHD, so I'm trying energy drinks now to see how I get on. I don't know if I can have caffeine every day though; other health problems may make it impossible.

I totally get this. I can do the Mun and Minmus in my sleep. But when I start planning something interplanetary, I find myself drifting off and needing far more breaks because my mind is working overtime to try and figure out a good design. I wish the game encouraged building wide instead of tall, but, you know...physics.

Live commentary to the rumored planet in the asteroids. Something like Dre’s? I don’t think it exists though.

lol, what timing xD talking about stressful, I recently restarted the game on the highest difficulty: career mode on console. I managed to get to duna yesterday, but didn't have the tech unlocked for a decent lander yet. maybe that's a good video idea for you.

I wish there was science with more intresting requirements. For example, a botany lab might require a lot of time but makes a lot more science, a microscope might require a surface sample to use, or maybe a "scocial experiment" box where you need to lock away a kerbal, a lazer machine that generates a dangerous amount of heat. What if you needed to use Xenon to run an experiment on plasma? Or what if you had an experiment which requires a signal to the KSP to function? What if there was a material science machine which requires ore to work? What if you had a samooe testing lab which uses non-renuable samples, but has a much lower science drop-off rate, encouraging you to shuttle new samples. It would also be cool if there were more "Experiments" that generated things other then science. For example, recording in different environments with a camera might generate funds in career mode.
