He was my teacher senior year. I'm in a university now having to do a ted talk and found myself looking him up for inspiration. Loved his work back then, and I love it now! Keep striving.

Modern universities have evolved into a profit driven industry. The courses are nothing more special than what you can research online for free.

I'm blessed that I graduated with BA with zero debt. People need to educate themselves on money. My old man always educated me on money. Mind you, he never finished high school. He learned a trade.

Credit card debt also affects us ALL. Debt from healthcare also affects us ALL! Mortgage debt affects us ALL! Auto debt affects us ALL! Poor Timmy chose to go into debt and get a degree and now he can't find his dream job? What about poor Suzie who didn't get a degree and mounted over 100k in healthcare costs? Who stands a better chance at finding a job and a better paying one at that! What's making Student Loan Debt the "chosen" debt to wipe away??

How about the fact that it's non-dischargable in bankruptcy due to statutes of limitations and basic consumer rights being thrown out the window? Or maybe because Uniform bankruptcy protections were written by the U.S. forefathers into the constitution as something to be prioritized above the ability to declare war, and the DOE and shameless, greed driven universities have assumed ZERO risk and just handed out loans to anyone with a pulse while taking no responsibility to properly inform them of their potential career forecasts.

Interesting fact, in the U.S. we are a bit spoiled, we have relatively high incomes and import alot of our goods and labor from otger lower income countries, the catch is that for education the educator is based locally and needs that high US wage, no outscourcing now, so it cost alot compared to the rest of our lives, its a first world problem...

With respect to the speaker, the average loan is roughly 30K. Most undergrads getting out of school are making between 50-60K per year. If they were able to put 5K towards the loan each year, they’re done in 6 years. If they got a 2nd job making 15 an hour and worked 20 hours a week, throwing everything at the loan, they’d be done in roughly 2 years. Also, can someone summarize his point in need blind need based? I had a hard time following how that would be a cheaper system.

Even countries with “free” education don’t have free education. They call it registration fees and books also cost significant money. Finding accommodation can also be a nightmare unless you live with your parents or other relatives. And entry level jobs are often unpaid apprenticeships. But 20 years after I left college I’m earning 3 times more then someone I know who went straight into a job and 1.5 times more then someone I know who’s an electrician. Yes it’s hard work and yes it’s expensive but for some it’s worth it.

Just pay your bills people. Honestly. You aren’t special compared to the common American with a mortgage who works in a factory, even though you have been conditioned to believe otherwise.

And let me guess-we're all supposed to pay for this?? But wait-I personally repaid my $40k student loans off-I DID!! And guess what-bet they don't teach this in HS-A LOAN IS A LOAN-You're borrowing the money!! It's not a gift!! You sign a promissory note-YOU'RE INDEBTED and expected to pay it back!! GET IT??? BTW-don't buy a home under using a loan if you expect a bank to forgive it and WE THE PEOPLE to pay it back for you!! GET A GRIP AMERICA! DON'T BORROW MONEY IF YOU CAN'T (OR WON'T) PAY IT BACK!!!

Can I violate the borrowers rights by stripping away basic consumer protections present in every other type of loan and then blame the borrowers when they get screwed? Universities should bear the cost of these worthless degrees and people should be demanding Trump to reinstate bankruptcy protections for student loan borrowers. It's not irresponsible borrowing, it's irresponsible lending.

Ok then you sacrifice, I’m going to enjoy my loans being forgiven under borrower defense to repayment, $140k and I don’t give a dam what you think, it took effort filling out the application and getting my loans discharged.
