Wow! Thrilled to see Jodie using our app with her smart glasses! It's an honor to be a part of her incredible journey - big thanks to the BBC for shining a light on how technology is helping to break down barriers ❤

As someone who spends a lot of time with deaf people, especially those who were taught to lip read and speak, her voice is something I've never heard before... wow.

I've encountered deaf people with excellent speech. Either they were implanted at a young age or they were deafened later in their lives.

Very interesting story. I really dislike how the BBC thinks everything needs to be a movie trailer though, the overdramatic music, the weird cuts, it's just meaningless, makes the actual story harder to follow.

It's a great invention, but it has a way to go. The glasses appear to be quite laggy, obviously due to the processing overhead. Hopefully this can be fixed in future.

My understanding is that Brits really focus on speech and do not fully embrace sign language. This is what I was taught thirty-three years ago while studying to become an interpreter for the Deaf in Canada. I don't know how accurate that is today.

I've wanted these glasses for several years since my grandmother was deaf. With OpenAI's whisper it would be nice to have a version which doesn't upload data to the cloud. I was thinking of using sports glasses like the activelook engo 2 which are less conspicuous.

Probably became deaf slowly as she aged, so she was able to develop her accent and enunciation before deafness really set in. She is probably not entirely deaf with the cochlear implant and slowly transitioned into interpreting sound from the implant over her entire life.

I looked her up--she was the youngest person in UK history to get a cochlear implant. She was just over one year old. This means she learned to speak using the implant which would explain why she doesn't sound like most deaf people.
