To me this is all so ridicilous. Canada acts like You lost to a 97th ranked team. I hate to tell You, but You did not. You lost to a team/nation that has a bronze and silver at the last two WJC and add to that won the WC last year. Granted WC isn't the absolute best against absolute best. But Czechia is a great hockey nation. Take the loss and get over it, go forward and let it go. I'm a Swede and last year we lost the gold medal game on home soil, as well as we've lost basically every gold medal game besides 2012, and been getting the silver as sure as You'll get a paper You subscribed to. Even though we won over 50 straight round robin games in a row and almost always made it to the last game of the tournament, just to get our yearly silver medal. It sucks, but You just gotta' move on as a team and as a nation and just look forward. Aslo, there are not powerhouses in the way it was like 20 years ago. The world of hockey evolves and countries like Germany, Switzerland etc is getting better by the day. If You don't bring Your abslute A-game and have some additional luck, it is far from certain You win not only the tournament but the game of the day. They lost, move on. Just as I will when we get Your yearly silver medal.

It's really not that. It's how they played. At home too. We know Czechia is very good but we played like crap. Our coach didn't even have practices once the tournament started. The coach and GM deserve criticism.

I just completed who I would have selected as Defenseman for Team Canada. This is kinda fun looking at all of our hockey talent! I picked these defenseman strictly based on offensive talent. We could have had three defensive pairings that were #1 Power Play lines. As a coach, I would have played all three lines evenly, 18 minutes a game for the top 6 defenseman, so they would have enough energy to play their best. I would have the Rover, the seventh defenseman, play 12 minutes a game, just to give the top defenseman a rest and allow the Rover to get some experience playing for Team Canada. My coaching philosophy would have the other teams coaches head spinning because they would never know who is going to be on the ice, with letting the Rover play 12 minutes a game. So, here's my roster, based on points per game and goals scored per game. For points I put P and for goals I put G, and then I added the two stats to choose the best players. Line # 1 Sam Dickinson - 1.76 P + 0.57 G = 2.33, shoots left, D Carter Yakemchuk - 1.33 P + 0.46 G = 1.79, shoots right, RD Line # 2 Zayne Parekh - 1.34 P + 0.37 G = 1.71, shoots right, RD Matthew Schaefer - 1.29 P + 0.41 G = 1.70, shoots left, D Line # 3 Henry Mews - 1.36 P + 0.30 G = 1.66, shoots right, D Luca Marrelli - 1.26 P + 0.39 G = 1.65, shoots right, D Rover - play 12 minutes a game with each defense line Bryce Pickford - 1.09 P + 0.48 G = 1.57, shoots right, RD Spare - play if a player is injured & against Latvia & Germany Brandon DuPont - 1.20 P + 0.29 G = 1.49, shoots right, D Call up - if a player is injured to take the role as a spare player Lukas Dragicevic - 1.27 P + 0.21 G = 1.48, shoots right, RD Nothing against the defenseman that were selected to Team Canada, but this roster looks way better. Now, I will be checking the potential forwards that we could have chosen. Cheers folks ❤ P.S. the spare player that I chose, Brandon DuPont, is only 15 years old. He's going to be the next Bobby Orr!

I've researched the potential goalies that we could have had. I understand that Carter George had good numbers in the tournament. As a starting goalie his numbers were the best at 1.76 GAA and .936 SV%, with the exception of the Finland goalie with a .941 SV%. That being said, George's numbers in the OHL were not good, ranking him at 17th best OHL goalie, with a 3.49 GAA and a .905 SV%. And then we have Jack Ivankovic ranked at 18th best goalie in the OHL, with a 3.51 GAA and .896 SV%. Why was Ivankovic selected? Answer: his parents probably paid the scouting staff money, so he will get drafted into the NHL. His OHL numbers aren't worthy of being drafted into the NHL, but he will still get drafted because of hockey politics. So, who would have I selected as the starting goalie? Ben Hrebik from the Barrie Colts. Hrebik is ranked #1 for U20 eligible goalies in the OHL. He has a 2.21 GAA and .936 SV%. He was also named goaltender of the month for December. Hrebik would have been even better than George. The backup goalie should have been William Lacelle from the Rimouski Oceanic. Lacelle is ranked #1 for U20 eligible goalies in the QMJHL. Lacelle has a 2.04 GAA and a .920 SV%. The third goalie should have been Jesse Sanche from the Everett Silvertips. Sanche is ranked #1 as a WHL goalie. Sanche has a 2.29 GAA and a .913 SV%. I would have invited Carter George to the Team Canada training camp, as he had a great record for the U18 Team Canada last year, but I doubt that he would have made the team roster. Third string goalie at best. It's amazing the hockey talent that we have in Canada. We could have had two Team Canada's. The future is looking good for future goaltenders for Team Canada. I will be looking at potential defenseman that Team Canada could have had now. Anyway, nothing against Carter George. He did play well, but we could have even better goaltenders.

I attended a game and watched the rest on TV, and I can tell you this was a bad team Canada. Their passes were sloppy, their defensive play was weak, inconsistent, goaltending was mediocre, and worse of all - they had the lowest goal per shot percentage of all the teams in the tournament. That goes back to coaching, scouting, leadership, systems, player selection, etc. Fire Cameron & company immediately. When the coach says he has no regrets, and can't think of new ideas, and can't find the chemistry with line juggling - it's on him.

3 good dude and I love them but unless you are currently entrenched in minor rep hockey in Canada you have no idea how bad and deep this goes. The system is broken. In 2013 hockey Canada changes the body contact rule from u12 minor PeeWee to u14 minor bantam. These current jr players are the first generation to fully go through this system and it sucks. U14 AA/AAA is unwatchable every game There is a suspension for a clean hard hit . Some 13 year old are 6.2 “ 200 lbs and are learning how to hit. The refs are told they have to protect the smaller player. That’s BS. You as a player are responsible for you OWN safety not the ref. A kid like Mckenna has only play 2 years of body contact now he’s on TeaM Canada. ? Playing against 19 year old from Europe that play in Men’s leagues !! If he played in the AHL /east coast he wouldn’t even touch the puck . Hockey Canada has developed small skilled players that are for F@c$ all. It’s not the roster selection it’s the talent pool in general.
@evanjamieson15 күн бұрын
There's so much better talent that we could have chosen. Hockey politics is running rampant in Canada, from U9 all the way up to the NHL. Apparently, rich parents are paying player agents as early as 9 years old. When I brought my son to his first U10 tier 1 - A tryout last year and watched the previous years U9 "tier 1" players show up to a hockey tryout wearing a suit and tie, I knew right away that the tryout process was going to be corrupt. There was one kid that was literally the best player on the ice and he got cut. Two girls were selected over this kid. He scored two goals in the tryout game, his team's only two goals and then gets cut. I was so pissed off about that because my Dad told his parents that he's a tier 1 player during spring 4 on 4 hockey and my Dad actually bumped him up to play against U13 players because he was that good. He was tearing it up against the older players too. As for body checking, we need to start it at the peewee level, agree with you. We also need to get rid of AAA and just have AA, A and rep. B. My older brother played rep. B throughout minor hockey and tore up the league every year, but my Dad wouldn't let him play AA because of some beef with the convenor. He ended up playing junior B at 16 and 17 and tore it up too against grown men. Junior B back then was a physical league to play in, nothing compared to the OHL now. The OHL is not a physical league anymore. The best player I ever watched was Marc Savard. I remember as a kid watching him play Junior A here in Ottawa. Pretty sure that he played for the Gloucester Rangers junior A team. Man, he was amazing to watch, but got his career ended by Matt Cooke. I'm all about clean body checking, but that Matt Cooke was a dirty player.

Rough it up...rough it up. Canadian hockey is very weak in terms of skill training. The USA for example were faster through the line up, passed better, took passes in stride, found open space and open players and were infinitely better than Canada. The PWHL FFS is far better at at taking and giving a pass and finding space. Most US players were Uni players. (7 0r more from BC alone). NCAA has fewer games, more skilled based meaningful practices. Major Junior is a gong show. Fighting and macho BS. In NCAA you fight you are gone. The top US Uni teams would wipe the floor with the best U Sports teams, in spite of players being on average 3 years younger, (U Sports players are left over major Junior players). It is time to develop skills from minor hockey on up. The Czech goalie is a sophomore at U Mass for heaven's sake.

That last period was, mostly, what a Team Canada roster should look like out there. But too little too late. Dave Cameron should be embarassed and possibly never coach a national team again. To say, about taking penalties after USA, "There's nothing more I can do, what else can I do, we've talked about it." That's RIDICULOUS. The callous attitude of the Canadian players when taking shit penalties, the apathy and lack of resolve. I watched Easton Cowan literally throw the puck at Czechia just to not get hit at the defnsive blue line, instead of taking the hit to make a play.
