Great video. I would like to add how it's easy to see that we all use every cognitive function by the examples in the video. We will all observe a thing, having impressions of a thing from past experience, can understand the thing as a concept or find new possibilities for the thing. But just like how everyone uses their left and right hand, they will favour one over the other, so too we tend to favour some cognitive functions over others. Also this video gave me a good idea on how to train yourself in all the perceiving functions. Say you are weak with Ne, just find any object like a box or spoon and start trying to think of other ways the could be used for something. Or weak with Se, just look at the box or soon and notice its colour, shape etc. Basically just copying the descriptions in the video. Weak with Si? Just look at that spoon and try and remember times you've used a spoon b4 or any other impressions you receive. Weak with Ni? Think about the concept of what a spoon is, it's like a digging device that carries something to another location, basically Ni is looking at the concept of what the thing is. Anyway xD

Well, the first question that came to MY mind was "what's inside the box?" (ENFP) I'm very surprised that wasn't listed as a reaction for any of these four functions, curiosity about the current contents of the box. (I was expecting that to fall under Se and/or Ne TBH) Unless you mean an obviously open and empty box?

As an Ni-user I know I often glance over the obvious details when explaining things (which is something I try to correct a bit) so that might be why this question wasn’t mentioned, but it is an important one 😊

INFP - currently using cardboard boxes as a laundry hamper, a CD case, shoe rack, a recycling bin, a change jar, and until recently a stereo stand. The box started to buckle so I had to scrap that idea. And of course I also use them for packing, stiring, and moving things.

Wonderful video! As an Fe-Si (Ne) ESFJ when it comes to this box concept, I always think with my Si "what else can I do with this box" as my Ne looks at the box in abstraction. As a teacher this kind of thinking is how I teach abstracts concepts like Math to my elementary school students. I have many creative ways to teach Math with manipulatives using my Si skills In Drama classes, I loved the game where we would take a random object and see how many ways we can use the object. My Si was completely dominating this and I would always come up with the best ideas! 👏👏👏

Very clear explanation. I am an Ni dom and I also thought what might be inside the box, or is it empty? A box is just like our mind, in regards to what we choose to put in there and choose to withdraw and present to others. Also, I also thought: why was the box there? How did it arrive there? Who might have placed it? And why they might have placed it? How did it help them?

I thought up my answer before watching through the video, and I think it uses a combination of functions: “What is the current function of the box? Is it still being used? What is the value of the box on the market? What is the value of the box to me or someone I know and should I throw it out?” Very value/use driven.

A neat and tidy overview of the perceiving functions. I feel most in tune with Se and Si. It's a bit of a toss up between: A box is a box is a box is a box, or: this green 3x3x4 inches plastic box with a transparent lid is the exact same my mom used to store sea salt in, it's even cracked in the same place, must be a design weakness or manufacturing mistake or something. I love seeing familiar objects because it makes me feel more at home, but whenever I eoukd point out, "we have the exact same object at home," (which in my mind makes us besties. ...I know.) people always used to look at me like I'd lost my mind😅 (Granted, I only pointed out objects or designs that weren't common.) Ne tends to kick in when I want to throw something away. "But what if you use it like this? Or what about this possible future situation, or this one?" Ni is just living its own life and popping up whenever, like shower thoughts. "So, boxes hold stuff inside them, right? And the human body also holds stuff inside it... so does that make the human body a box? And we hold stuff in our minds too. So our mind is like a box. Full of other boxes, because thoughts are just representations of concepts and concepts are like boxes because they hold a lot of information, and the words used to represent that information are also like boxes because..." Oh, no, I accidentally let the Ni monster out. Help! 😆 Anyway, thank you for another helpful video🙇‍♀️

Before I hit play on this video I answered this question (imagining that there was a box in front of me) and brainstormed a bit. Then as I watched the video I definitely fell into the Ne-Si realm. Se, I was describing the shape, colour, etc. Or that it's a 3D version of a square (or is that too abstract for Se, lol.) Ni, I thought "comfort zone" or "closed-mindedness." Si, I was thinking it can be used for moving or storing things. Ne, I thought it could be used for art, it could be wrapped for a gift, it can hold gifts, a box of chocolates... Oh, the TARDIS is a Police Box! I kind of drifted into thinking about Doctor Who after that so I hit play...lol!

As an INTP, my default is to do exactly what he did "this reminds me of" but it's an abstract concept. I realised recently that I'm constantly getting reminded of abstract ideas and then exploring them

I'm definitely not a high Se user. Ni is such an interesting function. Sometimes I feel like I understand it, sometimes I think maybe I really don't. Ne, I question or doubt myself if I really have Ne high in my stack after meeting an Ne-leading user! Ne-doms sure are wild; wild imagination, sometimes extremely deviating from reality which I personally sometimes could not relate.

Omg, what a great explanation O.O this is why us INFPs are so bad at being in the present. Si (what the box was to us in the past) pulls us into a state of contemplation about the past, while Ne (what the box could be) pulls us into a state of contemplation about the 'future'. The end result is that we become neither here nor there - and also explains why Se is our weakest function; in this state of flux, if someone were to ask us at the end of the day "So did you check the sticker on the box to see who it was addressed to?", our only response would be, "Sorry, what?"

The first thing I did as an INFP was think a box is place where you can put stuff in, a cubular object and then also usually cardboard but really possibly made of any material.

is there any difference of having an Se dom vs Ni dom seeing a box? as the box is a concrete object, Ni doms would still need to see it as what it is first (Se) right? then Se doms would just be very practical and see the box as what it is, and they can choose to not use their inferior function (Ni) to think about the box. but Ni doms must use Se to take in the information of the box first right? i guess it's because the box is in the external world and Ni doms must use their extrovert perceived function (Se) to assess it first before using their Ni function. or would Ni just see the box and immediately go to their abstract ideas about the box without touching it, wondering how it works and would be even oblivious to the details of the box because of their inferior Se? uhh don't mind this if this doesn't make sense at all lmao

How I approached it is that I didn't even read the question as "how percieve the box" I maybe misread or immediately thought "what is in the box" I got a faint and blurry memory/vision what was in boxes, a delivery, a suprise. I also thought in order to understand what's in the box you could try pick it up. The weight can also give a clue what can be inside. Something heavier? Maybe a delivery? But also a suprise can contain a present which can have a weight. But a surprise can also contain balloons making a burst of ballons out of the box a suprise. So if the box is light it might be a suprise. But why's a box in here anyway? Why do I not know why's it here? Why do I not know it's contains? Maybe I got misdelivered? Maybe it's a prank? Maybe it really is a suprise? ( I don't know what brain fart is happened during analysis I still don't even know what cognitive functions I use )

One thing I struggled with learning to paint was to understand that our brains naturally see in symbols. The way most children learn to draw eyes for example look like symbols of eyes rather than accurate depictions of how eyes actually appear. Learning to let your mind take in what you are seeing and letting go of the symbols really helps when painting things as you actually see them and avoid making things look cartoonish or childlike. In this way, sensing vs intuition shows itself. Sensing likes to work inside the figurative box and intuition likes to work with the symbols (outside) of the box. --Se says "what is that" Ni says "Do I want that?", Si says "was that familiar?" and Ne says "What else could it be?"

I am commenting before watching the video. My Ne will modify the box, I visualized box as paper box for electronics or something. I will start opening up the box, cut it down to make it 2 dimensional, it is shaping itself up into robotic thing that I doddle on the back of my note few days ago. It is laughing it's ass off looking at Me, Joyce and Denzel pointing it's little finger at us. The robot has soo annoying laugh. His name is Jackohhboy!!!!!!!! btw.

To summarize what i wrote below: A box is a compartment that allows you to differentiate information from other information To me a box is a defined area metaphorically, emotionally, mentally, ideologically and so on that can store something or allow for the limits to keep it within itself in order to allow you to differentiate it from other areas of the mind and heart A good example is compartmentalization of your studies, when thinking about math you link it to the boxes of limitations that you have differentiated that are required for math. The boxes are just soft boundaries though, if you really need the information that is in a box related to the none focused area you just need to literally think outside the current box you are in(Compartment).

Well, it's correct, but it's kind of overdoing it with Ni. Jumping straight to multiverses is usually not what happens immediately. I would more likely give the examples of the principles of the box being a handy carrying device, or this object, the box belongs in the carrying devices category. ni likes to think in categories and principles rather than individual specific things. Or as a containment for something, literally and figuratively. Or as in a black box, all the things are in there that we don't know yet or don't understand how it works. Ni can go down the rabbit hole but it can also be very day to day

Sorry, but I don't think a box is a good metaphor here because it is something that is often used and already has so much meaning attached to it. Most of us all over the world are ordering packages on a monthly basis and unboxing a package has become a pretty normal thing. Therefore peoples minds are immediately gonna go towards unboxing it - you can't fight that dopamine hit of the excitement vs. reveal when opening it. You should've chosen a more neutral object as a metaphor and the differences in the percieving of the object would have been more apparent.
