How The 49ers Brilliantly ‘Cheated’ Aaron Rodgers

The San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets faced off in the first Monday Night Football of the 2024 NFL season in Week 1. The high powered 49ers offense including Brock Purdy, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, & even Jordan Mason gave Aaron Rodgers & the Jets all they could handle despite missing Christian McCaffrey, along with the defense. But did New York's offense with Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson, etc. show us more than you might think at first glance?
Also, give me ideas for other NFL videos, news, and discussions I should cover in the future. I read ALL comments.
Thank you so much for the support guys.

For 49er fans who've been watching Mason over the last couple years, nothing that he did Monday was honestly surprising. Mason has always run like this; he's just been stuck behind CMC. During the pre-season, 49er fans have been vocal about Mason sharing RB duties more with CMC - mainly to ensure CMC remains healthy over such a grueling season.

The 49ers have more then enough weapons without Pearsall . The problem is and will always be Kyle Shanahan who for some reason does stupid shit like abandoned the run in the Superbowl and call ridiculous flea-flickers on 3rd and a mile. As brilliant as he is let's all remember he blew a 28-3 lead in the Superbowl and lost two other Superbowls after leading late in the 4th Qrt. The 49ers don't need more talent . What they need is a head coach who doesn't wet his pants when the pressure is on. Don't even get me started on his NFC Championship calls with Jimmy G.

Mason had 147 rushing yards that game, 94 of those yards came before contact. Dude nearly had a 100 yard game before anyone touched him. The blocking was on point. That said, I think the Jets potentially have a bounce back game since they're playing a team that lost a 17 point lead to the Bears without the Bears scoring a single offensive touchdown.

The 49ers defense is missing two starters. Dre and Hufanga. Hufanga was a first team all pro two seasons ago, probably would've been there again last season if he didn't get hurt. Dre is overlooked because he plays next to the best LB in the game. Add those two guys and the defense will be even better. Mason isn't the first RB to step in and have a day like that for Kyle. He's not even the first undrafted RB to do that. Mostert was undrafted as well. So you went out on a limb there and I think it broke. 49ers fans spent the last couple of seasons pleading for Kyle to give Mason more chances. It's understandably hard for Kyle to take CMC off the field because he adds so much value in other aspects of the offense. If Mason gets better with route running and catching passes (he did have one reception on a 3rd down against the Jets) Kyle will probably feel better about playing him more when CMC is back.

Amazing work - I've seen so MANY breakdowns of this offense - but the combo of your analysis and visuals made this incredibly clear & compelling. You have 100% earned a like & subscribe. This type of performance over a lauded defense (even factoring in the slow start) was impressive, especially with the rust from Aiyuk and McCafferty being out. As many mentioned, Mason wasn't a huge surprise - but we needed to see it in this type of sample size to confirm suspicions. Looking forward to your next video!

@@TheFootballDigest I just saw this response after watching your (equally great) breakdown of week 4. I think Purdy is doing a great job of debunking the system qb / embarrassment or riches narratives given how many plays he makes out of structure and the rotating/injury-riddled cast he's working with. While I can't wait to see them all at full strength, this time is giving us the ability to appreciate the quality/depth of the team (Jennings, Collins, Mason, etc ) while giving experience/reps to those who we're excited to see develop. Thanks again for the nuanced & honest breakdowns that we crave.

The play that summed up the game up for me was the long pass to Juice. Mason had been trucking downhill all day, so when Juice led him out of the back field the D bit hard on the play action, leaving Juice wide open. Mason had 2 of his best runs of the day wiped off the board due to holding penalties as well. On the same drive he had a 20-30 yard run come back and then later on, a 17 yard touchdown run comeback. DeBoo ended up coming through with a short rushing TD after he was the one to hold on the TD call.

Williams and Aiyuk are not up to speed and CMC missed the game, but so did the 49ers all-pro safety Hufanga and LB Greenlaw (and they were replaced by guys who have been special teamers for the last couple years) ... the 49ers were down 3 all-pros and had 2 other all-pros playing on extremely little practice. I've got to believe they get better as they get together. The 49ers paper depth at DB is frankly amazing. Green and Luter look like they are going to be difference makers at corner and they are behind De-mo and Mooney who are both great. At safety they have Hufanga and Brown (2nd year), and behind them Mustafa looks like a stud.
