I tried it after watching this, I used the 5 SMA with a 20 EMA, on the 30 sec chart, up to the 60min, trading Bitcoin. Effective, I like it! Many thanks.

5 period moving average is close the 20 period moving average on a 5 times lower timeframe. Bill Williams theory of the alligator is just that, but with moving averrrages calculated from other assestments, rather than observation. Instead of plain 5, we already know Alligator is a 5 Smoothed MA calculated on the the median price (HL/2) shifted 3 periods, and another on 8-5, and the jaws 13--8. I found useful to use a slower moving average on H1, wich represents a fastest moving average on a higher timeframe. In the case of the alligator strategy i use a 55 Smothed MA from median price shifted 13, to assest when the correction on H4 is ending and take an entry point by price action and momentum change on H1, when i see this kind of retracement. I'm only trading on demo but after training for a while results are getting better. We dont trade the markets, we trade our beliefs. Nice one!

I've included the 6 period on my template for this very reason. It keeps you in trends longer and gets you out quicker. The aussie is a good example of how it's respected at the moment. I also use in conjunction with the 20 and 50 periods

Once you start trading below the iconic "13" the more noise you'll encounter. I've used MA's down to a 3, but prefer a 8 EMA, when it becomes obvious just how much chop you feel comfortable with. Is it a practical or personal choice it just depends on your method of trading and results.

This is textbook Richard Donchian. The 5 and the 20 on the daily TF. This is also the basis for a lot of Turtle style trading. It's all I use

You should take a look at the HMA10, mine changes color between bullish and bearish, it is a litte quicker then the SMA5

Thanks for the vid Mark, please keep up the fantastic work. Must admit I was a bit sceptical at first but havign had a bit of a play it seems the 5EMA may help identify pullback entry zones so on that basis yes v useful.

5 day moving average is only for trigger or entry perspectives only...20 day is for short term trends, 100 is for medium term..& 200 day moving average for long term & investing purpose.
