As a Milan fan, Clarence Seedorf was part of my childhood and I was astonished every time I saw him playing. He was just not a fantastic player but also a great man, always humble and ready to help his teammates. His pure class was a pleasure to see every time he played. With Pirlo and Gattuso came out a perfect chemistry for midfield. And don't forget this man won 4 Champions League with 3 different teams (Ajax, Real Madrid, and Milan). I'm from The Netherlands, Seedorf has a bad image here.. it's sad. He missed a penalty in the WC i think, and never played at the level he did at his clubs for the national team,. Mostly because we had so much midfield talent, they posted him on the left, like you mentioned in the video they did at Real, to fit in more 'attractive' players. When Seedorf talks, he sounds smart (he is) and he knows what he wants, this is perceived to be 'arrogant' in my country which is a big no no here. He never got the love from The Netherlands he clearly deserves. I had wished for him to have some more luck in his international career, and he would be loved like everybody loves Giullit. This man deserves a statue in Milan tbh. One of the biggest legends of the game, period.

He deserves a statute at Ajax as well. As for his lack of success with the Netherlands: during Seedorf's career peak the Dutch had loads of cr@p, outdated coaches like Hiddink and Advocaat who couldn't get the best out of him and preferred to rely on hard working midfielders like Cocu and van Bommel... Cocu and van Bommel over Seedorf, for Christ's sake!! Van Basten meanwhile didn't even pick him in 2006 and 2008 when he was at his peak. Once he was removed from the toxic Dutch NT environment and given the chance to work with clever coaches like Capello, Heynckes and Ancelotti, Seedorf shone like a diamond.

The best out of that excellent mid-90s generation of Dutch footballers (Bergkamp, Kluivert, Davids, De Boer, Van der Sar, Staam, Cocu, etc), though arguments can surely and properly be made in favor of others. I wouldn't call him underrated, though. He's considered one of the GOATs where I'm from, and probably throughout Latam, Spain and Italy, as well. Maybe it's an English-language media thing--having never played in the PL nor really stood-out during Euros or in the WC--or maybe it's a generational thing, who knows. But trust me, he's highly, highly, highly regarded by all who saw him play. EDIT: Vieri not world-class? c'mon.
