How The C8 Corvette Is Breaking Into The Supercar World! | Z51 Review

Welcome back! Gone are the days of the scattered antics of the front-engined Corvette, rolling out of the showroom with no expectation of holding onto the rear tires for more than a few blocks. This new generation C8 Corvette has had time to brew in the market now and it's clear it's putting pressure on the competition, even though it may need a bit of a facelift. The Z06 will surely change that, but there's a screaming LT2 6.2L V8 putting in work behind me for now with a Z51 package to top it off. Enjoy!

I think the rear end can look much better with some mods. Getting a high wind spoiler, aftermarket exhaust, and blacking out the white blinkers gives it a much more exotic look and sound.

As a British motoring journalist the C8 Corvette IS an extremely interesting and tempting car. A genuine contender, but I agree. The opportunity to create a manual mid engined supercar was missed. I still want one though

Now your question, does it appeal to Europeans, sure it does. It is rather large though so compared to the Boxster GTS 4.0, which is what I compare it with, it'll be more of a hassle as a daily in terms of parking spaces, roads are narrower (unless on the Autobahn/highways), and price wise that value proposition is not present on the European market to the same extent. In my country the so called launch edition, a Z51 HTC LT3 with the magnetic dampers, with pre-selected color exterior (no customization possible), cool sky grey interior, competition seats is USD 153.000 incl tax. That's about 11.500 more than the Boxster GTS 4.0, but the C8 has more stuff included.

Not to step in it, but I kept my '19 Z06 manual for 2 years, and got rid of it. Awesome car, so traction limited it wasn't even funny. 1st gear felt like I was driving on ball bearings. I have a '24 Z51 on order, and I expect it to be .5-second quicker to 60, and identical in the 1/4. My '08 Z06 was a better balanced performance car, with an appropriate amount of horsepower. I'm done with front engine RWD sit-and-spin fast cars. The C8 is a spectacular success.

why do i always see guys paddle shifting c8 ? if the 8speed dual clutch tremac is that fast ? you can't out shift the PDK.

That was a great question that was posed... Would you buy a c8 or a supra? How about a c8 or a r33 skyline? Perception is always of the beholder. Do you purchase a car because of its capability or do you purchase a car because it makes you feel a certain way while behind the wheel?

It's always been a delicate mixture of both for me. I'd take an R33 GTR over a C8, but a C8 over a mk5 Supra..

I'm a C8 fan and have been on the edge of getting one depending on whether the Z06 turns out significantly more visceral. I'm waitlisted for a C8Z and Lotus Emira both at MSRP. How would you rank the C8 Z51 in terms of visceral feel? Like you, I had an MR2 Turbo (1994 but stock), a supercharged BRZ, and test drove a 981 Cayman S but was letdown by how numb it felt in comparison on local roads (I'm it's sure faster and more capable at higher speeds). How would you rank the C8 among those cars or other cars in terms of visceral feel? I'm subbed and turned on bell notifications for more C8 vids from you.

The problem with American sports car is that they are really expensive on the export side. Thats why we don't see a lot of them in Europe.

I think the C8 is a good street car, but not super car status, or a competitive track car. The videos I have watch from those who run track, the C8 is not quite there. I am waiting on the Z06 which is projected to be sub 7 at Nurburgring. I have been in the order queue doe 1 year.

@@saran99945 in England the c8 is around 90 k only the base model because of import taxes etc , so no unfortunately the c8 won't be the number one option

Not impressed. The C7Z for about the same money will destroy a C8 in every performance category there is. Its not even close. We will have a C8Z just as we have a C5/6/7Z but make no mistake the base model C8 is quick 0-60 because of low gearing in bottom gears and ME layout, but it is not fast compared to the C7Z. In fact the C6Z with same FWHP and more drivetrain loss is right on par with the market inflated C8 base care. There are already FAR more base C8 on the street than the tuneable, highly modable, huge power capable C7Z. Oh and you cant mod and tune this car properly so you got what you got

The design is deeply rooted in the corvette's history in motorsport- This shape of wheel is very common in vehicles designed to be driven on tracks or on windy roads, such as it's competitors like Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc... While it certainly isn't entirely neccesary in a street-going model, the extra leg and gut room for the intended audience (middle aged, likely somewhat overweight, white males) helps, and it's design certainly can add to the experience during spirited drives and track days.

I dunno... Looks pretty good too me. I'd have a go at fixing the "smiling Camaro" backend, but, other than that (and the brakes), it looks like an incredible value considering the competition (haven't looked too closely at the "AuntMyra" lotus yet.... That one looks interesting
