When Jesus says “on this rock I will build my church”, He’s referring to the revelation revealed to Peter by the Father, that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. Jesus IS the Rock. Satan perverts meaning, and interpretation. 😭🙏🏼🫶🏼

The problem is with Catholics always deferring to that, is just something that's uncovered in biblical apologetics even in theology more appropriately, is that the name Cephas, doesn't mean "rock" as in Rock of Gibraltar or stone, it means "pebble" It's where the idiomatic expression "chip off the old block" is derived from... one thing Jesus always did with Peter is humble him... Jesus wasn't edifying Peter, he was however exhorting him to understand that this thing is much bigger than he even knows.

@@carolinajackson7621 Luther jettisoned Christianity and created his own personal religion. Numerous others followed in his footsteps, not to become Lutherans but to deconstruct Christianity and then remake it according to their own whims and fancies as Luther had done. It would behoove you to know these things so that you don't end up like them. "I read my Bible & can prove if anyone is giving me false information." The fact that anyone can read the Bible is not and has never been any sort of standard or guarantee of orthodoxy. The only standard of orthodoxy given to us by the Lord is the Church.

Do you think that if someone has had some sort of experience of God that that means they are perfect and can't make mistakes? I'm saying the person is not listening to God if they are anti-Catholic. If they were truly lead by the Spirit they would know that they need to go to Confession, receive Jesus in the Eucharist, and partake of the other sacraments as necessary. They would know that there is one Faith and one Church. They would want to enter the Church and belong to the body of Christ. Makes no sense to say that 73 year old devout Catholic had not accepted Christ. And you "led him" to "saving grace" that is somehow superior to the grace he was receiving, the Body and Blood of the Lord, every Sunday? And you did this by teaching him some of the recently created heresies of false religions? How can the Faith which the Lord gave to the Apostles and they handed down in the apostolic churches, the Catholic Church, be superseded by latter-day teachings of heretics? What "grace" is found in heresies? Heresies are lies. Lies cannot save anyone. Jesus said, I am the Truth. I was brought up Catholic. Went to church every day sometimes 2x a day during special holidays I knew in my heart I did not have a relationship with God as the Bible says, I was dead in trespasses and sins. I was taught that Mary was born without original sin and I wondered how she did that. I was taught about the saints and all those women who lived as virgins qualifying them for sainthood. I was 8 then. I knew I was a sinner separated from God. I prayed for God to come down and show us what He was like. Lo and behold I was led to an Evangelical church where I found Christ and heard of Jim dying of our sins. I did not hear in my Catholic church but had to work to become acceptable to God. I am still struggling with that concept and have yo always trust God through his grace snd mercy by Christ's sacrifice on the Cross our only hope of salvation.😅

O My servants, all of you are astray except for those I have guided, so seek guidance of Me and I shall guide you, O My servants, all of you are hungry except for those I have fed, so seek food of Me and I shall feed you. O My servants, all of you are naked except for those I have clothed, so seek clothing of Me and I shall clothe you. O My servants, you sin by night and by day, and I forgive all sins, so seek forgiveness of Me and I shall forgive you. O My servants, you will not attain harming Me so as to harm Me, and will not attain benefitting Me so as to benefit Me. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as pious as the most pious heart of any one man of you, that would not increase My kingdom in anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to be as wicked as the most wicked heart of any one man of you, that would not decrease My kingdom in anything. O My servants, were the first of you and the last of you, the human of you and the jinn of you to rise up in one place and make a request of Me, and were I to give everyone what he requested, that would not decrease what I have, any more that a needle decreases the sea if put into it. O My servants, it is but your deeds that I reckon up for you and then recompense you for, so let him who finds good, praise Allah, and let him who finds other than that, blame no one but himself." "Whoever chooses to be guided, it is only for their own good. And whoever chooses to stray, it is only to their own loss. No soul burdened with sin will bear the burden of another. And We would never punish ˹a people˺ until We have sent a messenger ˹to warn them˺." Note: Utilize your brain to uncover life's purpose. Reject faiths that ignore facts or lack coherence. Correct, don't receive the Eucharist until you believe what St. Paul wrote in 1 Cor 11:23. If you do not discern the Body of Christ in the Bread and if your soul is not predisposed (free of sin) then you can be drawing down judgment upon yourself. 1 Cor 11:27Therefore, whoever eats the Bread or drinks the Cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the Body and Blood of the Lord. 28Each one must examine himself before he eats of the Bread and drinks of the Cup. 29For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the Body eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. 31Now if we judged ourselves properly, we would not come under judgment. 32But when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.

Some clarity that has helped me: works of faith are different than works of the law. A work of the law is something you do to earn something from God, whereas a work of faith is done in response to what God has done. Really, faith can be defined one way in that; faith being a response to God's grace (grace being what He had done.) Ephesians 2:8 can thus be explained this way (brackets mine): It is by grace through faith we are saved, not of works [of the law to earn one's salvation]; it is the gift of God [both the grace and the faith to believe said grace] lest any man should boast [in his own works to earn such a gift.] In James, the work he refers to is not one of the law, but of faith. "He has saved my very soul, and as a response, I do His Word." Naturally, trees should bear fruit if indeed they come from a seed that carries in it the nature to do so. So if one says they believe something, there ought to be something in their life to show for it. Now, we are only told to judge actions and to be intentionally measured in doing so, and not one's heart, so only God truly knows one's state at a given moment. And there are other things to consider. However, this comment is long enough. So indeed, faith without works is dead, and it is only by grace through faith we are saved. Ephesians and James are not at odds, but work together with the proper understanding.

It’s true that Catholics do not read Bible because i was an EX-Catholic , before i became the child of God and i remember i was in elementary days that i read the Bible in the verse where Mary has another children and i asked my elders how come Mary still a virgin now where she has another children aside from Jesus? The elders just answered me , they’re only brothers and sisters just like colleagues in the church (building) calls like it. So i just keep my mouth shut and believed to the answer of my elder untill God open my eyes and my heart that was the time that i wanted to die because i am confused inspite of being a member of the Couples for Christ Handmaids of the Lord , we do household every week , praising and worship God and read the Bible still can’t understand the content in the Bible . One day while driving after i sent my children to school, i felt hopeless and cried hard and asked God if I am worthy of His Kingdom? Because even I didn’t steal, kill but i felt so guilty. The guilt keep haunting me and i cried so hard asking God for direction because i wanted to quit my life but in my mind it’s not the way there’s something a beautiful hope that is waiting for me and He was Jesus Christ, the only hope ,the way the truth and life( John 14:6). I asked God that i don’t want to go to hell. At that very moment that i asked God’s guidance He brought me from darkness to light. At that moment He opened my blind eyes to see the goodness & love of Him . He brought me to His real children the real church (people) who are in the truth. At that moment i was in union to His dear Son Jesus Christ , i was birthed by the spirit of Christ and i were sealed by the Holy Ghost (Ephesians 1:13)as I believed so much in God in the name of Jesus Christ my lord and savior. My beautiful savior. I am crucified with Christ nevertheless I live yet not I but Christ in me .(Galatians 2:20) Now I am a new creature, created in Christ Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:17) Because of Christ , God made unto me Wisdom , righteousness, sanctification and redemption Christ in me the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27)

Really good discussion. Being married into a Greek family and their membership in the Greek Orthodox Church, this was a helpful video. They split from Catholicism but did keep much of the same or similar unbiblical teachings, beliefs and traditions. I walked away from Eastern Orthodoxy over 4 years ago after being in the church prior for 25 years because of my marriage. I almost lost my marriage as my husband was less than happy that I returned to the Baptist church threatening to divorce me but by the grace of God we are almost at our 32 year anniversary and I have over the years been able to interject the true gospel , biblical truths and counters to what they teach. He is still a member and so it can be difficult at times to navigate how to handle this situation. I wish more discussions were given on Eastern Orthodoxy and it’s ties to Roman Catholicism and the similar heresies because it’s almost a forgotten fact that they were and are still in many ways linked together.

God originally gave the Greek church charge over the believing Gentile church. Believing Jews first [ the diaspora ] and then to Hellenes. See Romans 2:10 The word "gentile" there is actually Hellenes meaning Greek. The old covenant scriptures were written in Hebrew Aramaic and the new covenant written in Koine Greek. This isn't to say the Greek Orthodox churches haven't taken in false doctrines over its ancient history. They have but at least they haven't splintered into 400000 different denominations. I notice much idolatry in the Eastern Orthodox churches similar to the church run by the Vatican Bishop of Rome.

The Orthodox tradition, having missed both the reformation and the counter reformation, is probably the closest to apostolic christianity. I've heard of former protestants who become Orthodox. What you think of as "unbiblical" teaching is often a different interpretation and different emphasis of scripture. I don't necessarily agree with Orthodoxy, but there are plenty of unbiblical teaching in the protestant tradition too.

@@MusicalRaichu that is true in any church “ denomination “. In the case of orthodoxy, it teaches the assumption and perpetual virginity of Mary , and claim her to be Holy, they pray for the souls of the dead , they teach transubstantiation, that water baptism saves and advocate infant baptism and salvation is contingent upon keeping the sacraments ( this is of course a works based gospel) that they are the one true church , they call the priests “ Father”, they deny a rapture, teach one judgment of all lumping saved with unsaved, they venerate saints and yes pray to them including Mary going as far as to have numerous patron saints to call upon to assist in specific prayers and with Mary for her to assist in salvation , they deny a literal hell, teach replacement theology among other concerning things. So while there are Protestant denominations that have issues, Orthodoxy has many that are outright heretical, the worst being a works based salvation. Scripture is clear on all these things but the most important is how one is saved. It is by faith alone and a works based salvation does not save which leads a person to hell ( which is a literal place ) as it adds to Christ’s complete work already accomplished on the cross and no amount of prayers for the dead or to deceased saints allows an opportunity for that person a second chance to get it right. If the gospel is wrong in any faith , that is the biggest concern.

@@Smerm Well I think they've got some things right, some wrong. like their view of mary and baptism and praying to saints and using icons and stuff is pretty sus. but while justification by faith means God's forgiveness is a free gift we can't earn, the bible clearly teaches that all will be judged on their behaviour without partiality: 2 cor 5.10, rom 14.10, mat 25.31-46, rom 2.6-11, 1 pet 1.17, rev 20.12 "heII" is not taught in scripture, which seems to inconsistently teach annihilation and universal reconciliation. infinite punishment for finite wrongs obviously contradicts both God's love and God's justice. actually i don't know the orthodox position, i'll look it up. and the rapture was invented around 200 years ago. it's a strange idea that's never been traditional christianity, in spite of its popularity in one particular country. my point is that no one should write off a particular tradition, because no tradition has a monopoly on truth. they each have strengths and weaknesses. there's "one Lord, one faith, one baptism", it's Jesus that unites us whether we realize it or not. a better way is to "accept one another as Christ accepted you" and share our views and our reasons for them with no condemnation.
@Smerm

@@MusicalRaichu The issues you’ve mentioned are commonly used as counter points. Hell is clearly taught in scripture, believers are judged at the Judgment seat of Christ for rewards of service not to assess if they have eternal life , unbelievers are judged at the Great White Throne Judgment for their faith in their works and rejection of Christ. God is misrepresented as only a God of love and not justice. There are many scriptures on hell and a differentiation of judgments. The rapture was not invented 200 years ago which is the go to John Darby defense that is used to denounce the fact that the rapture is in scripture. If you really want to study these issues to assess if they are in the Bible and their correct contextual definitions and factual basis, I’d humbly suggest you look into counter views to what you believe about them. If course we are each accountable to what we choose to believe and why. None of us knows everything of course but scripture is clear on the way of salvation, the existence of hell , the second coming which includes a rapture ( harpazo in Greek , to snatch away ) and a literal second coming when Jesus physically returns, and the different judgments between the saved and unsaved. These type of topic studies are time consuming but worth the investment to correctly divide the truth. One more helpful point is churches that teach Replacement theology have a skewed understanding of the separate roles of Israel vs the church throughout scripture. I assume you are not a Dispensationalist but dispensations are key to discerning the differing importance and significance Israel and the Jews and the church have in both the Old and New Testaments especially the prophetic implications woven throughout scripture. I would like to say I appreciate how you were not mean or disrespectful in your responses. Too many times it’s easy to not respond as such and I appreciate that. These can be touchy subjects because of differing beliefs and understandings. No one can make another see their viewpoints but it’s good to debate if it results in further research which is what being a berean means. We shouldn’t take someone’s word for it but need to research things ourselves to know what and why we believe what we do. A few good sources that cover these topics and their opposing views that you may choose to check out are or else my response would reach novel length and could be seen as droning on, costing us both back and forths of time we probably can’t continue to spend doing. It would be become a round and round we go scenario 😅……. Dr. Andy Woods Duluth Bible Church Yankee Arnold C4C Apologetics To limit time navigating their KZbin channels , it’s helpful to go under their playlists for the specific topics desired to be studied. Btw, Andy Woods is extremely thorough on all these various issues but just a warning that because he is, he has many videos under each so it takes awhile for each to thoroughly grasp biblically what is being taught. He’s really good at exegesis, uses a lot of scripture and more importantly, uses scripture to interpret scripture so that things are in context which is extremely crucial. The Eastern Orthodox have a KZbin channel called “ Be the Bee” which has numerous short teachings on the beliefs on every topic imaginable . In my study it was helpful to watch their videos on individual topics and then check out the opposing view, keeping in mind that scripture within context must be a part of any opposing view so a biblical foundation for that view was the defense and not just mere disagreeing with no Bible based explanation as back up. I guess we are never done learning ( and unlearning) really !! So I hope we both continue to study these things ☺️

Timothy was not an apostle, and while he was "chosen by God," his ordination and thus ministry came through the Church via Paul. Even Paul, who was not part of the Twelve but nevertheless called by God to be an apostle "out of the normal course," as he says, had to go up to Jerusalem and run his gospel by those in authority. And the "they did not go to seminary" part is deceptive since they all would necessarily have to have been trained by an Apostle or some other bishop in order to be ordained. One would have to be in the Church to be ordained. The Church is hierarchical. It's not a free-for-all.

In fact, Scripture says "no one dared join them" because they did mighty works and the fear of God came upon those who witnessed this. You can't just say you're an apostle. An apostle is one who is sent. He has mission. So Jesus founded the Church on the Peter and the Apostles, the Twelve. It was they who ordained bishops/priests to ministry in the Church. How do you not understand that nobody is able to ordain themselves but that this sacrament comes from above oneself in the Church? You're just saying "Jesus told us he would send the Holy Spirit," but you are taking this out of context. As Paul said, "are all apostles?" The answer is no. Jesus gave special powers to the Apostles, which they in turn handed on to their successors. You can't do what they do. To claim that you can is a monstrous presumption. It's making yourself Lord. The idea that there is no instruction, no formation, no ordination, no authority, no structure in the Church is an absurdity. All you have to do is read a history of the Church and you can plainly see that all of the successors to the Apostles were in a structured, orderly, orthodox universal ("catholic") Church. You couldn't just set up shop as an independent. People who did this were called heretics. This happened right in the New Testament, and it says to warn them a couple of times and then have nothing to do with them. It says if they had belonged to us (the Church) they would never have left.

I was raised Catholic but never heard the actual gospel until my 20s. My work supervisor asked me if I had a PERSONAL relationship with Jesus and that's when my wheels started turning. Constantine struggled for a long time before declaring Christianity the official religion of Rome. In fact, when he was finally able to make that declaration in 382, it was nearly 50 years after his death in 337.

??? 382AD was also the year that humans with authority (not the Bible) chose at the Council of Rome, officially, for the first time, which books should be in the Christian Bible and those chosen books currently make up the Bibles of Roman Catholics and I think most Orthodox Christians. Strange that they waited so long if they thought that >only< the Bible was the source of infallible religious truths. I don't know if books like the quite old Gospel of Thomas, the Gospel of Phillip, the Gospel of Mary, or many other books of the time were very popular, but historians know the Shepherd of Hermas was a very popular book and was being treated as inspired by some Christians up until it started to lose popularity after that Council. Why isn't it in your Bible? . It's weird that Holy Spirit correctly guided clerics at the Council to chose the 66 books that general Protestants accept for their Bible but then incorrectly guided them to chose 7 other books that Protestants don't accept, (ie 73 books were chosen at the Council). If you believe that >only< the Bible is infallible than it's quite possible that these humans made more errors than choose an extra 7 books, maybe some of the 66 books in general Protestant Bible shouldn't be there, maybe there are other books to add. Where in the Bible did it tell Protestants to remove 7 books from a Bible that had been accepted by most Christians for centuries, chosen in 382AD? Books like 1st and 2nd Maccabees which have Maccabees following the Jewish tradition of praying for the dead especially since his soldiers had died in a state of sin and the book saying he wouldn't have done that if it wasn't useful. I think it's a good book to add to the Bible (even though that isn't my authority) since it's where the festival of Hanukkah/Lights comes from and the Bible once says Jesus went to the Festival of Lights; also Daniel 11:21-34 or maybe higher than 34 is considered by most to be a pretty accurate prophecy of what is described in Maccabees. If the Bible didn't tell these Protestants to remove books like these from the Bible then who gave them the authority? At least non-Protestants say the Apostles chose successors for themselves and that those chose other successors for themselves and so on until the present and that those in that line have been given religious authority. If early Christians were following scriptures >only< then when Paul, Peter, and others said Christians didn't have to be circumcised before it was put into accepted scripture then the other Christian would've told them to follow the Old Testament's clear teaching that they had to circumcise.

@@lynpatricia6854 it may or not be the intent, who are you or I to say what someone’s intentions are? We couldn’t possibly know the heart of another. What I am speaking of is its effect. That’s not debatable, evidenced by the separation of the churches. No doubt the authority of the first church had been corrupted by men. The answer to that isn’t to create a new authority that then destroys unity. That totally goes against what Jesus gave authority to. You fight against the corruption within that authority, not create a new authority that isn’t sanctioned by Christ. Christ started this authority on earth by handing Peter the keys to his church to spread the gospel that was the first church. He didn’t change his mind later and hand those keys of to Luther to create a new belief that caused disunity. Luther didn’t reform the church. Luther wanted to abolish the authority of the church because of its corruption that know doubt did exist. He just went about that all wrong and that’s led us to what we have today. Disunity amongst ourselves. Never was the plan from the beginning and we discredit ourselves in the eyes of the world. Why would they want to join us if we can’t find agreement even between ourselves. This just discourages so many people from securing salvation. It’s like being asked to join into a family fight. Some will join because they like to take sides. Many won’t because they can see how that’s destructive to the family and themselves.

"There are conditions to being an elder," Such as being ordained in the Church by the Church, something that heretics who are outside the Church can never do. One must be ordained in the apostolic line of succession. It's not something you can do by yourself. "such as being married with godly children as revealed in 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus." Obviously false since Jesus and Paul were not married. Jesus is our High Priest, and Paul was the apostle to the Gentiles. Paul was above Timothy in the Church, so if he was supposedly banning celibate priests, that's a new one. Where did you get this idea from? "99% of Catholic priests do not meet the conditions in the New Testament for being an elder (priest)." False and absurd, as shown above. Marriage was never a requirement for priesthood. What Paul actually said was being married only once and having some order in your household - basically he's saying a respectable man. The reason celibacy in the west became popular is also because of the teaching of Paul where he said he would prefer if people were like him so that they would not have their attentions divided and could serve the Lord full time. And also because of the example of our High Priest. A celibate priest can devote 100% of himself to his flock.

Water baptism is necessary and is taught throughout the NT. How does anyone read Romans 6:1-14 and not believe baptism is necessary? In Galatians 3:26-27 Paul says, "You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. In verse 29 Scripture says, "If you belong to Christ" which infers that our baptism brings us to this point. Passages throughout the NT teach baptism. The Catholic baptism is not Scriptural nor done as God has instructed. Just another way so called believers distort the Word of God, as anyone who teaches that baptism is not necessary does.

Physical baptism was a sign of what was to come, where we receive spiritual baptism (of the Holy Spirit) from God. @@shayalynn That is not what the Word of God teaches. Romans 6 makes it clear as to the purpose and function of baptism is. Baptism is where we connect with the blood of Christ; where we are buried and our new life begins. Baptism is required for forgiveness of sin and it is during baptism that the Holy Spirit enters our body. There are so many passages in the NT that teach about baptism, for instance, in Galatians 3:26-27 Paul teaches that "all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ." This panel of men said that the apocrypha books were added to the Bible at the council of Trent in the 1500’s. (FALSE!)… The first recorded council dealing with the canon of the Bible was the Council of Rome, which was held in 382 under the presidency of Pope Damasus. Later councils, such as Hippo (393) and Carthage (397) and the ecumenical council of Florence (1438), reaffirmed the canon issued by the Council of Rome. At ALL these councils the canon that was proclaimed included the seven apocrypha “deuterocanonical” books (1 and 2 Maccabees, Tobit, Judith, Baruch, Wisdom, and Sirach) and rejected 1 and 2 Esdras. In fact, it wasn’t until the Mid-1800’s that Protestants finally took out the seven books in their own Bibles. Why did the Protestants even have them in the Bible if they weren’t the word of God? …Look it up if you don’t believe me! Perhaps, just perhaps it’s because the protestants knew that if they would remove them it would cause an uproar within the Christian community. Since these books have been in the canon of the Bible officially since 382 A.D…..and not the 1500s as these men would want you to believe. In Aramaic, there is just one word for rock and it is kepha. Matthew had to translate his original Aramaic/Hebrew text or the dialog of Jesus into Greek and since Greek had feminine and masculine nouns-and rock was the feminine petra, he had to translate the word differently since a 200-pound fisherman could not go around with a feminine name like Petra. In the translation, Matthew made the Aramaic name Kepha - Petros-petra with a masculine ending.

@@TheKZbinGame The gospel is that Jesus saves us from sin, death, and Hell, and that salvation is real if we cooperate with God's grace and embrace the truth of the gospel, if we repent, if we conform ourselves to Christ, become part of the Church, etc. There is no way to fake it. In the 16th century, however, people calling themselves 'reformers' broke with traditional Christianity and created various versions of a false 'gospel' whereby 'salvation' was achieved by 'faith alone' meaning that there was one mere act to perform and God would magically 'save' people as a result of this one act. This is not true, has never been true, and will never be true, so whoever believes this is deceived into thinking that God can be conned into accepting sin when the truth is that God must reject sin by His very nature. And God must judge and punish sin, which is why the threat of Hell is very very real. When Paul says there that we must be transformed into the holiness of God, he means it in the actual, real sense. People who are hung up on these 16th century heresies, believing that they have an easy road to follow, fall into the trap of thinking they've already arrived there when they KNOW they haven't, so they are double-minded about things like this (anything pertaining to sin, holiness, salvation, justification, etc.) They readily admit they sin but at the same time will claim to be "the holiness of God" by quoting this or similar verses. They seem to be missing the idea that they need to be personally transformed from a sinner into a saint by the grace of God, not just in some sort of legal or 'forensic' sense.

Second Timothy 3:16-17 tells us that Scripture is the inspired Word of God, so that man would be complete in instruction and doctrine. Just remember, adding anything to the simple gospel of "you are saved by grace through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God" means you have not believed the true gospel and are not saved...even if you are well meaning. St. Paul worded it like this, "Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. And to the one who does not work but believes in[a] him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness". - Roman's 4:4-5. Believing in purgatory to finish cleansing you of sin says that what God did by sacrificing Jesus for you was not enough. Killing Jesus every week during the mass also says His sacrifice was incomplete and imperfect. These are terrible heresies and will lead you straight into hell...with no purgatory. I believe you love Jesus but please make sure you believe what He did was completed and perfect and then get out of the system that says it speaks for Him and that the Bible isn't enough. May God bless you in your journey.

Good try. Actually, it is you who rejects the testimony of Peter, by bearing false witness, because it is Peter who testified that Jesus is the Son of God, the Messiah when asked by Jesus Himself, "Who do you say that I am?". It was Peter's answer about who Christ was that was the rock, pointing to the Rock, Jesus Christ, not to Peter himself, about himself. Further, the entirety of Scripture, all the way from Genesis to Revelation, points to Jesus Christ as the Rock, the only Rock, the Foundation Stone on which the Church is built: the catholic or universal church, the "ekklesia, the called out", not the Roman Catholic Church which has perverted, twisted and added to the Gospel throughout the centuries to line it's pockets and maintain political power. There is no mention of this false teaching that "Peter's answer was the rock." Scripture and Tradition and history are clear. There wasn't even a controversy over this until the 11th century when the so-called 'Orthodox' suddenly rejected what they had always upheld, the office of Peter. "Further..." No, there is no 'further' when you are starting off with an atrocious lie about what Scripture SAYS. You can't even quote the Lord correctly because your whole intent is to overthrow His Word in favor of your own. The TEXT SAYS LITERALLY, "You are Rock and on this Rock, I will build My Church." Peter's name means Rock. The Lord specifically gave him this new name when they had met earlier. His given name was Simon, or Simeon. Jesus changed this to Kepha, which means rock in Aramaic. This got transliterated into Greek as Cephas, and the NT writers also used Peter (Petros) because that means rock in Greek and would clarify things for Greek speakers who might not be familiar with the Aramaic form. The text does NOT say, "What you said is rock and on this rock..." Please stop lying.

About 7 years ago I began a true exploration of what I believe . Raised Catholic , yet educated in public school . As a kid I recognized the hypocrisy. After the Parents party’s Saturday night, they dress to the nines , to be seen at Sunday mass as the perfect family. I really believe they thought they were good Catholics. Just before Covid I found an excellent Bible teaching non-denominational church and have learned so much. Then in 2022 I did a deep deep dive into Faith , looking back on my spiritual life . I had always been more Christian than Catholic . Jesus was always with me and always guiding me. But yet I still struggle with the Catholic guilt , must go to Service on Sundays or that’s a mortal sin. I make my Sunday a faithful day by getting into the word. Also do the online Bible study Wednesdays and once a month watch the prophecy updates. I continue my reverence to mother, Mary, not worshiping the Virgin Mary, but speaking to her as I would to my loved ones who’ve passed . I believe in learning about Saints . We’re all called to be Saints . I don’t believe in the declaration of Saints by any particular Catholic or Christian Church . With my passion for Jesus comes the realization that many members of my extended family are non - believers . This is what I pray most about . I encourage them to just listen to Bible stories ,if only because it’s the oldest book of amazing stories & I’m talking Old & New Testament . To One sibling who says “ I believe in science “ I forward KZbin’s about archaeology proving old testament stories. Please pray for the nonbelievers , time is getting short. I’m going to start telling FAMILY to be preppers for survival , because if they do survive they’re gonna be in the tough times , the End times. I am going to tell them ,even if they don’t believe , to pass on the information as to the signs to look for to their kids & on to the next generation . because if this generation does not see the end times, it could be 3 , 4 , 5 generations down the line and they need to know. I’ve been talking to the grandkids too & have since they were little . They’ve been with me for God moments . I am thankful I have family and that does not shut me out because of my beliefs. Maybe , just maybe they’re open to the truth and there’s a light being shined for them .

" I found an excellent Bible teaching non-denominational church" Not excellent. They reject Christ's words, THIS IS MY BODY, believing the Lord's Supper to be a symbolic act only. This was unheard of in 1500+ years of Christianity. Rather, the BIBLE teaches that Christ meant what he said. In the bread of life discourse, he spoke literally, and those who listen to him too him literally: 52 The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us *his flesh* to eat?” 53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you *eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood,* you have no life in you; 54 he who eats *my flesh* and drinks *my blood* has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For *my flesh* is food indeed, and *my blood* is drink indeed. 56 He who eats *my flesh* and drinks *my blood* abides in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who *eats me* will live because of me. You left Jesus on the altar, a means for receiving his grace, for a false teaching of man. When the evangelical denomination celebrates the Lord's Supper, if and when it does, it usually has grape juice and bread. That's ALL it ever is, nothing more. When one realizes how novel of a teaching this is, that it can be traced to a 16th Catholic lawyer named Calvin, the intellect can begin to comprehend the error.

Genuine Believers don't say this. The New Testament, in fact, is clear that we CANNOT keep the whole Law. (James 2:10) No one could keep the 600+ laws in the OT, no one can keep the 10 commandments, and no one can even keep the "greatest" commandment.....ALL, 100% the time. We're failed, and justly doomed for our sin. Enter - JESUS, Who satisfied God's wrath by taking HIS place for us on the Cross. When He shed His blood and rose again, He opened the door to salvation. All who trust in Christ -- not their works or their own devices (bc God rejects them) - and put full faith in Christ ALONE to save them, are born again and become the children of God. That is what the Gospel is all about. If one has been born again, works WILL follow....and they will THEN be rewarded because faith is the only thing that pleases God.

Infant Baptism means the child become incorporated in the Body of Christ which is the Church. While the Church’s teaching of Limbo, that is, the state of the soul of of dead unbaptized infant, is a theological hypothesis. Limbo is not hell, but rather a state of perfect happiness yet deprived of the Beatific Vision (the Vision of God in Heaven.) Baptism is the gateway to the other Sacraments when the infant becomes a member of the Church; the soul has Original Sin washed away and receives Sanctifying Grace and the Theological Virtues of Faith Hope and Charity upon which the child can flourish with God’s gifts as it receives the other Sacraments. Just as Jesus in the gospels healed the little girl at the request of her parents, so too the infant becomes a child of God and member of the Church at the request of the parents who promise to raise the child in the faith. You can read objections to infant baptism, and the Catholic answers here: www.catholic.com/tract/infant-baptism

A lot of excellent points. But as a Christian, I draw the line at laughing at and mocking Catholics, and that happened too often in this discussion. If you really care about Catholics, and you really care about helping them sift through what you see as lies (and you very well might be correct), then you should never approach this in such a gossipy way, but rather with kindness and compassion.

Well said! Christians need to be respectful and professional and courteous when dealing with others. Jesus didn't mock or laugh at people. Kindness and civility is so desperately needed in our World today. If Christians mock and insult other's beliefs, they are not being very Christ-like.
