Related, I just rewatched to be sure...though a couple of times Veach is mentioned as an important component, literally not a single time is there any mention of anything he did. Dorsey is (appropriately) given plaudits for selecting Jones/Hill/Kelce, and (perhaps less appropriately) Mahomes...and then it's crickets on the drafting front. Was Veach an important part of the construction of the Chiefs' dynasty? Hard to say from this video...

Not even top-5 buddy! Brown-Graham (10 straight Championship games, winning 7!) Belichick-Brady (6 SB wins) Walsh-Montana (4 SB wins) Noll-Bradshaw (4 SB wins) Landry-Staubach (3 SB appearances, 2 wins) Johnson-Aikman (3 SB wins) Those guys are all above Reid-Mahomes, and we can make an argument for Shula-Griese (3 consecutive SB appearances, winning two). The Dolphins lost to stiffer competition than the Chiefs did, and you can count me among the many who believe the Chiefs shouldn’t have appeared in two of their SBs. If Bud Grant and Fran Tarkington had won their three appearances, they’d be a better duo too. Then there’s Marv Levy and Jim Kelly. They appeared in four SBs but won zero. Their opponents were tougher than anything Reid and Mahomes have faced.

@@tylerstuart9196 Enjoy it. It won't last forever, and it's very special to have a legitimate franchise qb. There's something nice about knowing that, every single week, you have a chance. Only so many qbs can give their team that confidence. Even teams that won multiple Super Bowls, like the Giants, often did it with solid qbs, like Eli or Phil Simms, rather than true franchise players...

It even goes back farther than that, which is even stranger. Steve DeBerg was a former Montana backup in SF and was KC's starter from 1988-91. In 1993, they brought in Montana himself over from SF. In 1995, Montana retired and KC signed Steve Bono, one of Joe's SF backups to be the KC starter. After Bono, they brought in Elvis Grbac to be the starter - you guessed it, Steve Young's backup in SF. Then in 2013, they acquired Alex Smith, Kaepernick's backup. Wild. The Chiefs (were) notorious for never drafting a QB in the first round, and signing backups away from winning franchises for nearly 30 years. Mahomes getting drafted for KC fans was the shock of all shocks on multiple levels because they finally had a good starting QB, and they never drafted first rounders. Make no mistake, there were plenty of Chiefs fans thinking "why do we do this to ourselves? Fire everybody."

You fans can't have it both ways. What will be very interesting is watching the "dynasty to disaster" story this season. The chiefs will implode. After all most of the receivers will be incarcerated by the 4th game this season. I'm sure Brittany has an excellent divorce attorney and the Ried family is due another DUI accident any day now. One of the best recaps of Chiefs History I've ever seen. Really good. For me, I followed them since Montana. It's important to mention the impact Montana had on the team. The mediocrity and ho hum production was given a shot in the arm with Montana. But you covered the Grbac and Gannon controversy. I followed Gannon and rooted for him in spite of Marty ball. As a Broncos fan who hates the Chiefs, I got to admit, it's impressive what Andy Reid has done with that franchise. I feel like with their current dynasty status, It's easy to forget that they were snake bitten for 40 years. I remember them catching me by surprise when they started out 9-0 before their bye week in 2013. Because here we had a team that was 2-14 the year prior. But then I remember their cracks started showing after their bye. I believe we handed them their first loss that year and then beat them in KC a couple of week after. I believe they lost 5 of 7 including twice to my Broncos and the Chargers as well. In their 5 years under Alex Smith, they were good enough for a playoff spot and a division title but never great enough to be a super bowl contender. But under Mahomes, they're a perennial Super Bowl contender. Even when they don't look great during the regular season kind of like last year. I hate the Chiefs, hut I've accepted that I'm just going to have to dral with them and losing to them every year.

They were 22-42 in the four years prior to Russ being drafted and starting as a true rookie in 2012. That 22-42 record includes back-to-back 7-9 seasons (2010 and 2011) with the LoB, Marshawn Lynch, and (for 2010) Matt Hasslebeck at QB. Russ nearly led the Seahawks to the SB as a true rookie (blown by the LoB in the last 30 seconds of the NFC Divisional at Atlanta). Let’s face it. Dorsey mightve still been at the helm but veach drafted Mahomes he was his biggest fan. He even fooled other franchises such as the Saints into thinking we had no interest when veach had his eye on pat for a long time. That is why imo he ultimately got the gm job.

correction, the chiefs were not "placed" in the afc west. basically the AFL just became the AFC, and the NFL just became the NFC. The chiefs were already in the AFL West.

Patrick Mahomes could have been to 6 Super Bowls in his 1st 6 starting years 1st in the AFC Championship in 2019 vs the Patriots, there was about 2 minutes left in the game and the Patriots were down 28-24, Tom Brady is driving down the field and throws a pass to Gronk and it bounces off his hands and is caught by a Chiefs defender, Patricl Mahomes comes in and kneels the ball, but oh no "offsides #55" (Dee Ford" and the Patriots score a td then with about a minute left the Chiefs tie the game with a fieldgoal, but Brady gets the ball 1st in overtime and they score a td Then 49ers and Buccaneers The Chiefs would have beaten the Bucs of their O-line was healthy (only 1 player was at where he usually played) because they destroyed thek in the regular season Then in the 2022 AFC Championship vs the Bengals if the Chiefs kicked a fieldgoal right before halftime instead of a failed play to Tyreek then the game doesn't go into overtime and the Chiefs win by 3 And then back to back vs the Eagles and 49ers Mahomes could have had 6 Super Bowl wins in his 1st 6 years of starting and would have 1 more ring than Brady because he wouldnt have won his last one the Patriots and he wouldn't have won his ring with the Buccaneers

Mistake. Chiefs didn't "destroy" the Bucs in the Regular season. Chiefs won 27-24. Chiefs went up 17-0 in the 1st Quarter. Bucs adjusted and outscored the Chiefs 24-10 the other 3 Quarters. If you think about it the Bucs outscored the Chiefs 55-19 the final 7 Quarters they played that year. Puts it in perspective, doesn't it?...lol.

@@hillbillyhitman8506 You don't watch the Chiefs regularly if you think that. Reid is notorious for letting his foot off the gas once he has a lead. Which is why the Chiefs rarely have a blowout. They always let the other team back in.

I wouldn’t say the Chiefs were a constant loser lol. Chiefs are like 6th in all time wins in nfl history. Also they had Lem great teams jn the 1960s and early 70s and majority of the 90s with Marty. Early 2000s had some great team and even Todd Haley made the playoffs. Raiders, broncos, and chargers all have worse history of winning and overall records.

Losers? Chiefs have the 4th most wins in the NFL since 1990. Chiefs were the first team to earn 6 STRAIGHT Playoff Appearances. Fr 1990-95. (Chiefs had everything except A Tier1QB in their prime.) Also? Since 2012? The Kansas City Chiefs own THE MOST Wins in the NFL. (That's 6 Seasons WITHOUT Mahomes.) KC Chiefs ar e (15-3)/6 straight AFC Championship game Appearances/4 Super Bowl Appearances since Feb2020/ won SBLIV, SBLVII & SBLVIII Titles in Playoffs last 6Seasons? Cuz for first time in 50yrs? Chiefs haavs a Tier1 Quarterback in his prime. Go look at 98% of SB Winners last 45yrs. Tier1 Quarterbacks were the winners.

There was alot missing from this short summary, but it was very short at 10 minutes and change. I do think that the basic feeling of the Chiefs History came across. Foundation & early success/purgatory of mediocrity/hard-fought moderate success with heartbreaking playoff defeats/fits & starts/the bottom falls out/new moderate success with heartbreaking playoff defeats/Mahomes Era Chiefs. The glaring omision was the Montana, Allen AFC Championship loss. Additionally, there were a few more guys that should have been mentioned like Tony Gonzalez and Jamaal Charles among others. I give it a solid B grade.

@thehalftimeshow You're welcome. I hope that didn't come off as harsh. It seemed to me like the target audience was someone who was only aware of the past 6 - 10 years of the team. I thought that you were able to introduce the newer fans to the feeling of heartbreaking disappointment that was a big part of Chiefs history. The Montana acquisition was an important turning point, though, and if it were me, I would have dropped a few more players names so the viewer had a direction to go if they wanted to find more information on their own. I was really glad that you didn't miss Preist Holmes. Anyway, good job.
