Hi everyone! I'm 21yo male belgian and I've been researching LDS, the more I learn about LDS the more enchanted I become with LDS however I was wondering does the church require us to marry young or is it ok if I marry when I'm around 33 yo ?
@Chillymosquito5 жыл бұрын
As far as my knowledge goes, and I am lds. We are counseled to marry young because we want to create famiLys, having multiple children when your older is more difficult when you are older...with that being said it’s not a sin if you marry later. No worries. If you look into the importance of familys in the church then I believe you would discover a natural desire to want a family sooner. Have a good day! I hope I answered your question!
@cphorn155 жыл бұрын
The Church does not require you to marry young, but it's often seen that way because of the importance that we place on families (as Tyler said). Another aspect that excites us is the eternal union ordinance that seals families together even after death (going beyond "till death do us part"). Speaking from personal experience, getting sealed is one of the best and most spiritual experiences I've ever had.
@scorpioal135 жыл бұрын
The ultimate blessing of the gospel is the promise of living in the presence of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ together with our families. This requires marriage. That being said, there is no requirement as to how old you are when you marry (as long as all laws in your area are properly followed). Also, if for some reason you are unable to marry in this life, all blessings, including marriage, will be available in God's timing.

Raphael, senior leaders of the Church have been serving for many years in local positions before God calls them to serve in higher positions. If you look up the apostles online, you can see that they served in local positions previously, such as being bishops of local congregations. All Church members have opportunities to serve; I've served in various positions over the years myself, such as teaching Sunday School, advising young men, leading a choir, or serving as a secretary for a bishopric, for example. One of my high school friends is currently serving as a bishop, which typically lasts for five years. No positions in any local congregation (ward) is compensated financially. These callings do not necessarily lead into any other responsibilities; as indicated by the Church, any leader seeks inspiration from God to know who to extend callings to for any position within their responsibility. However, serving helps us grow, and those called to serve in higher positions will have doubtless spent many years serving in other capacities first.

After the Savior's death and resurrection, Peter and other Church leaders were rejected and killed, and key teachings and priesthood authority were lost from the earth. Then, in 1820, God and Jesus called a new prophet named Joseph Smith to restore the Church and its true teachings. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Jesus Christ's restored Church. Yes, it makes a lot of sense. He wasn't alone for most of his life. According to the Biblical account, Adam lived to be 930 years old and had many children with Eve. Their children had children, and theirs did also. By the time he died many, many people had been born. Adam served as a prophet to the people of his time.

Galatians 1:6-12 says, “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. 10 ¶ For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ. 11 ¶ But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. 12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

In the early days of the restored Church, it wasn't obvious how things should proceed. Several events happened that made it clear that Brigham Young was Joseph Smith's successor. These days, we understand that full authority remains among the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles after the death of the President of the Church. There's nothing worrisome about apostles ordaining other apostles.

“They [the apostles] were rejected and killed...” ...hmm well yes the apostles were slaughtered by pagans. And yet the faith lived on and Christianity continued with a line of apostolic succession. The structure looks similar because the LDS believes in a notion that the Church Christ founded was in complete apostasy within a few decades. It’s a complete disregard for Church history and early Christian theology. Omar, your suggestion is right. What ever semblances this structure has to the Catholic Church is because the Church Christ founded never “died out.” This notion of the Great Apostasy is a fabricated idea to relieve the cognitive dissonance created in believing that for 1800 years God abandoned his people until Joseph Smith came along.
@00Fisher004 жыл бұрын
@@Tanmexam27 Even during the time of the early apostles, it's clear that many incorrect notions were being introduced. Much of what Paul and others wrote in the epistles of the New Testament was written by way of correcting false practices and beliefs. @00Fisher005 жыл бұрын
The authority of government and workplaces is all very temporary. God's authority is eternal. Leaders in the Church aren't there to boss people around; they're servants. Nothing compels us to follow their direction except a desire to serve and do God's will. Added government or work authority could be cumbersome and restraining, but the Church is very different.

@@Nebiros21 You raise an important point, perhaps indirectly, that there's a difference between what people say and what God tells us. I will be very happy to inform you that we indeed *can* know about spiritual truth, with greater certainty than we know anything else. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints rely upon this--we don't believe in following people or doctrines without knowing that they are really God's truths. I would love to share more of my own experience with you if you care to hear it; in short, I have found that God is both loving and wise, and that following His counsel not only prepares me for eternity (the "celestial promises" you mentioned), but also vastly improves my life right now. I'm a United States Army officer by profession, and so I do have some real insight into both authority in government and also the constraints and benefits of work. I appreciate getting paid, and for years I've also seen positive and negative things about my work environment, including abuse of authority and wonderful leadership. The Church is different, and it's different in an amazing way. At Church I am compelled to do nothing by man's authority; people there seek to do God's will, and I do the same. Please consider that there is more to the Church of Jesus Christ than what you may have seen already, and that it is indeed possible to know for sure that God is directing the Church. I'd be happy to share all sorts of experiences with you that could lend insight. It is such a good, good thing.

@@00Fisher00I will grant you this: submitting to Church authority is a choice, while secular authorities there is no choice as that is a matter of survival in this world. However, the reason I do not choose to submit to a second or third body of authority in the form of the church is because I find no joy in it. For example: what if a church authority told me to rinse myself in ice cold water to suppress bad thoughts? That brings no more joy than getting a pay cut or being under-appreciated at work.
@00Fisher005 жыл бұрын
@@Nebiros21 Sure. For my part, I've never had anyone tell me anything like that. Church authorities tend to tell me things like, "Pray. Study scripture. Serve." I also don't have anyone forcing me to do them. I have had specific invitations to help people in need, and I have to say that I found the opportunities for service to be very pleasant and certainly fulfilling. This video perpetuates the confusion in LDS culture between prophecy and presiding. The office of “the Prophet” simply does not exist. No one is ordained as “the Prophet”. There is an office of “the President” and this person is ordained as a “prophet, seer and revelator” but so are 14 other individuals. The President is not ‘the’ Prophet, other than by popular tradition. If the D&C is to be believed, prophecy is a collective function performed by the respective quorums and unanimity of prophecy is the objective. No where are we invited to put our faith in one individual alone, or to make that person our primary example.
