This video will help you understand how the gas and clutch controls your acceleration. Do you need to change the gas or clutch to speed up or slow down? I also show you how to accelerate quickly and explain what will cause the clutch to wear prematurely.

The perfect video for every beginner like me. Not just your usual "please hold it on the bite point for around 2 seconds" nonesense, but actual facts and methods on how to manipulate clutch control and how to have way more control over the car, how to start slowly or even more quickly. I just took my manual driving test today in Queensland, Australia and passed on my first attempt with only 5 minor errors, none of which were gear or clutch related and I owe it to you Mr Richard! For the last month, I have watched and re-watched your videos on learning to drive manual and cannot express my gratitude for how helpful and informative each one has been. The attention to detail and explanations are second to none, so much so that in just 1 month and without having a single driving lesson with an instructor, I learnt how to drive manual and passed my test today on my first attempt! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge to drivers both young and old, experienced to inexperienced! We all appreciate it greatly 😊

Understanding how clutch works mechanically makes the whole thing clear. To simply say, taking off quickly depends how fast you release the quick. The more gas you give, the more quickly you can release your clutch.

I wouldn't use ''it would be easier'' and ''if that makes sense'' in one sentence. This just goes to show why we need more sentences explaining how it works. Plus, if you listened carefully Richard has said the exact same thing at 05:51 . Cheers!

@nabilhmidouch2019 There's nothing wrong with the sentence, although it could from benefit from a dash before "if that that makes sense". But it's KZbin comments, it really doesn't matter.

@@boulevard14You completely missed his point. It’s not the structure of the sentence, it’s that ‘it would be easier to explain as…’ and ‘if that makes sense’ are contradictions. Clearly it’s not an easier explanation if he’s having difficulty in conveying it.

That little bit on boggin down really helped me diagnose why it was even happening in the first place. Initially I gave plenty of gas but as soon as I brought the clutch to the bite point I would for some reason start to lessen the amount of throttle I gave, which caused me to constantly bog down... Thanks for the vids now I can finally have my friends drive in my car without me feelin' embarrassed about how bad I was driving.

I request you to make a video how to control clutch and acceleration on a uphill bumper to bumper traffic. Because handbrake probably not comes into effect in this stage when you have to stop and move repeatedly without rolling back. Our Indian roads simply very difficult to drive smoothly but anyone who masters driving in Indian roads would be able to drive anywhere in the world probably. Ha, this answers a question I just asked in one of your other videos. Thanks! (I think the biggest challenge for me is that my instincts are based on driving nothing but automatics for the last couple decades. I need more practice with the stick.)

I think instructors should refer their students to this video because it is literally impossible to explain this much so concisely and most students probably don't learn to use their clutch until few years after they pass their driving.

I've no idea how you can concentrate on driving the car, and talk so much at the same time, my own thoughts distract me when behind the wheel ;D
