Despite only appearing in two episodes, the Great Devourer is one of Ninjago’s most important villains. Here’s a look into how this villain changed the show.

The Great Devourer was truly Ninjago's biggest threat of the time, not even the Serpentine as a whole could do what She did. Having the Overlord also be integral to the Great Devourer's path that lead to so many events, and I love that it all brings everything together. Also, it makes it better that Garmadon was the one to kill the Great Devourer, sure it set in motion the Overlord's return, but it also set in motion Lloyd's journey to send him back to rest once more, and thus the balance returns.

I liked the Overlord/Devourer reveal, but my problem is that it felt like it came out of nowhere. It really was a scapegoat for Harumi's redemption, let's be honest. But I'm glad it happened either way, and Harumi redeemed herself, because it makes sense. Overlord created the Great Devourer, turned it evil, and was the catalyst for all of Ninjago's constant problems. Because of the Overlord.

It seems like that at first but after some thought, it actually does make some sense. The Great Devourer’s venom was able to turn a good person (Garmadon) evil just like the Overlord’s dark matter. And it’s venom also reawakened the Overlord’s stone army. It still feels a bit like a cop out but connections between the Overlord and The Great Devourer are there.

And here is the reason Why Pythor is actually with Overlord the best villain and his actions had the most important consequences. If it wasn’t for Pythor the Devourer wouldn’t be unleashed and Harumi wouldn’t became villain, Garmadon would never return, the stone army would remain stone statues, Vermilion army wouldn’t be a thing (I would love that), Overlord would remain on the dark Island, etc. So yes Overlord created/corupted the Devourer as a tool to corupt Garmadon but Pythor was the true catalyst for everything. Which is so interesting.

I agree with Pythor being one of the best but Lloyd must be the real villain of the show because he released and worked with pythor

@@thatguywholeavestheparty6147 yet Lloyd was just a child with no one to go to and nowhere to go except a school where he doesn't fit in. He wanted to be like his father, yet that desire led to Pythor's betrayal, and everything else, aside from the Overlord getting off the Dark Island.

It was the fault of the Oni and Dragons. They birthed the FSM, who fled and created the Ninjago mainland. This awoke the Overlord. Overlord created the stone army and the Great Devourer, and awoke thousands of years later. If the Oni and Dragons had achieved peace, none of this would've happened.

One of the most impressive parts of Ninjago that I recently realised was that the show avoids power creep shockingly well, with most action shows, you expect power creep, but not the case here. The devourer was only able to be destroyed by the four golden weapons, which hold the power of the ultimate spinjitsu master as evident by the fact that the Overlord in season 3 can become the golden master either through Lloyd's power, or the golden weapons, so both the Overlord and Great devourer are destroyed by the same level of power. Due to this, it's possible to say Chen with his fully powerred staff is the strongest thing we've seen so far since elemental powers equal the power of the golden weapons, at least for the main four, excepr Chen either couldn't, or just didn't have access to the full potentual of all the elements. For the rest of the show's original ten seasons, we never have anything that really scales above the Devourer and Overlord directly, the only possible candidates are the Pre'eminant, Garmadon, and the Oni, but he Pre'eminant and Oni are defeated through type advantage rather than outscaling them, meaning no power creep, and while quantifying the oni titan is tough, we know that Garmadon was defeated by discoverring his counter, rather than outpowerring him as well. Then even in season 15, the Overlord is once more defeated by the power of the four golden weapons, proving the power cap has remained unchanged. There have been a few wildcards in the power scaling, like Djin magic and the hands of time, we don't onow the upper limits of their power and they could be used in ways that bypass a power disadvantage, but they aren't neccessarily stronger than anything else. The one exeption I can find to the clear power cap is Woejira, since apparantly the first spinjitsu master couldn't defeat her alone, making her the strongest thing in the show with only the possible exeption of the Oni, but again, type advantage. And yet despite this power, Nya can defeat her alone with her full potentual, this is very unfortunate, and although seabound is probably one of the best from the 11 minute era, it's also the most lore breaking. But with only that one exeption, Ninjago has kept power scaling under control. I am a bit concerned for Dragon's rising though, one of the source dragons aledges that it could accidentally destroy a whole realm, which is something the Pre'eminant and Oni couldn't even manage on purpose. Depending on what more we see of the source dragons, they may represent a concerning rise in the power ceiling.

I think the main fact that keeps it from being lore breaking is the fact that almost every other story we hear of the first spinjitsu master, he’s already a young adult or a full grown adult, meaning he’s already older and more experienced before he faces off against the overlord, oni, and other threats. What makes Wojira different is that the First Spinjitsu master was a child, a teen, when he faced against her, and had just entered what would become Ninjago. I can imagine that if the FSM was older like when he faced all the other threats, that he could have defeated Wojira on his own. But at the time, he was inexperienced and new to combat outside fighting Oni and Dragons, and had barely any rest from his harsh travel. If they had made the FSM older, then it would truly be lore breaking, but a kid version I can easily see that he wouldn’t be able to defeat Wojira alone. In fact, it was probably thanks to the battle against Wojira that the FSM became who he is now, training himself to defeat whatever may come his way so that another Wojira wouldn’t arise again. Wojira’s main weakness was the 2 gems in her head, and although Nya was needed to do so, I can imagine anyone strong enough could take them off, but only someone like Nya could get close enough and do so without dying.

I do think Overlord confirmed that The Devourer was male because his dialogue was "It was I, who corrupted the Great Devourer, and sent (Him) against you". And you look back at it when he says it right after he said "sent" you don’t hear any r noise

That line came from the same season that referred the Departed realm as the cursed realm, the dragon armor as the golden armor and Queen Vania as princess Vania

In the Oni Arc they also call Overlords armor the Armor of the golden master, which is nonsense. And Kai Made Out of the Armor of 8 weapons only 4 new. There are often auch writing and continuity errors

I was just having a look at the wiki of ouroborus and just had a thought…if garmadon meddling with the past sunk ouroborus back in to the sand, then couldn’t that mean the great devourer is alive asleep under the city as if nothing ever happened to her?

Still Overlord shouldn't tell Lloyld and Garmadon he's the Great Devourer, the final scene should be Lloyld, Garmadon and Harumi find out he truth and working together to defeat Overlord.

Know it all makes sense why the devours Verum brought the stone army back to life overlord corrupted it and gave it its power so the venom must’ve served as a catalyst the power of the overlord contained in it was released and when it may contact with the stone warriors it awaken them

I kinda dislike the idea of the devour being the overlord doing not everything has to go back to him besides Harumi killed a lot of people and now that the overlords fault Riiiight.
